Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on August 22, 2023August 22, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 OSCARS FORTUNE and TYCOON HARRY have been two of the more impressive trial winners in recent weeks at Belmont Park. OSCARS FORTUNE has had the customary 2x 400m jump outs in preparation for a 1000m race on debut and in the most recent of them he skipped along and got away by over 5L at the finish in an extremely sharp time. Think he’ll take plenty of beating on debut. TYCOON HARRY looks well above average. He had shades on and won his 1000m trial by a similar margin. There wasn’t much between them in their 400m jump out encounter and they’re drawn alongside each other. Game on. PLATINUM SHOT drops 5kg on her first-up run and drops back into a maiden. What a bizarre scenario? BLUE LAGOON was a super trial. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – OSCARS FORTUNE WIN RACE 2 MALKAR PINDARI has her first start for Simon Miller. She’s finished second to Devine Belief, second to Sesswa, third to Yarralea and Hooah Havana, second to Wild Belle and second to Man Crush. Her form is outstanding and her recent trial was good enough to suggest she can finally shake the maiden tag at her first outing for the new yard. ROMANTIC RULER may be looking for further than 1100m but the trial behind Hemlock Stone was handy. VALCHIAVENNA has shown ability at trials and Summer Dickson’s are usually ready first-up. DEAMBER has barrier 1 and trialled nicely for her return. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – MALKAR PINDARI WIN RACE 3 BIRTHDAY BALLOT gets one final chance with Chris Parnham going on. She’s now a fairly long time maiden (start 14 on Thursday) but her second behind Gold Keeper on 15 June and third behind Banks Avenue on 13 July are good enough efforts to be winning what looks a fairly thin maiden. QUEENSLAND DIESEL finally made it to the races after seven barrier trials across multiple preparations. He settled rearwards and worked his way home nicely through the pack to finish fifth beaten 4L. Think the step to 1300m is ideal but from the draw he’s likely to get a long way back again. DIAMOND LIGHT was the target of big money on debut but never got into the race. SIMPLY may need a bit further. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 12 – 11 Suggested Bet – BIRTHDAY BALLOT WIN RACE 4 TAK GOES BOOM was handy enough in his initial racing preparation. His recent trial over 930m at Lark Hill was solid and he’s drawn to get the right run. This looks a wide open race with a number of queries on a number of runners. Should get the right run from a favourable draw. IVANAS GIFT went around 80-1 on debut when finishing miles off Becalotti and then improved 10 fold when finishing third behind Proportrait and Rubirock at her second start. Huge unknown first-up no trial. BORN AND BREAD is now quickly running out of chances. RUSSIAN TO THE BAR was a high price yearling ($200,000) and is the half brother to Kissonallforcheeks. He trialled like he’ll need at least 1300m. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 7 – 12 Suggested Bet – TAK GOES BOOM WIN RACE 5 FULL OF MERIT sat in the breeze last start in a mile maiden where they went 4.5L quicker than average. She was the one doing all the work and then was left a sitting duck to be run down by Silver Back Jack. Prior to that finished third behind Cavallo Red and subsequent winner Yallingup Girl. Looks the right form. BRING THE BLING never gave it away last start behind Lord Vampi who will go around popular in a C3 at Belmont on Wednesday. LUVA SESSION was unable to match motors with Don’t Trust Judas but think in time that will look like excellent maiden form. GODS GARDEN has put in three great runs to start the campaign. Numbers: 11 – 8 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet – FULL OF MERIT WIN RACE 6 SECRET IDENTITY won back to back races at 3 year old 0MWLY level and then was a victim of circumstance last start. He tracked into the race brilliantly and presented at the perfect time but in the end they’d simply gone too hard and fast out in front and he was gassed. The first 1000 was run in 59.71 in a mile race and on straightening there was simply nothing left in the tank. COVERT ROSE is drawn a little sticky but she’s a versatile mare. The Starry Heights form is outstanding (Starry Heights, Villeins, Queen Of Jerusalem all subsequent winners). ROMANCING THE ROCK is improving into the preparation. MIDNIGHT MYSTERY next best. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – SECRET IDENTITY WIN RACE 7 INDIE RULER, LIEUTENANT DUNBAR, DUN WITH THE BLUES and TREASURED QUEEN are all last start maiden winners who rise between 2 & 3kg in weight coming up into a 1300m Class 1. DUN WITH THE BLUES showed a distinct turn of acceleration to put the race away impressively and should get a lovely run into the race following the every move of INDIE RULER. INDIE RULER was simply too quick for them at Belmont Park. Blinkers clearly worked and he’ll roll along throughout. LIEUTENANT DUNBAR has shades attached and has always promised to win a few. TREASURED QUEEN got the job done well fresh. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – DUN WITH THE BLUES WIN RACE 8 RUPERT’S EMPIRE looks to have found a very suitable assignment. He won a 3 year old 0MWLY first-up over 1000m, was luckless second-up behind Goddess Of Giving (subsequent 66+ winner), Hang Glider and Invincible Ruby (subsequent Westspeed Platinum winner) and then finished fourth behind Red Fifty Three, Hammarmill and Bread To Flirt in a 60+ Graduation at 1200m. Back to 1100, back to a C3 and can park up over the speed. Ticks plenty of boxes. PALAGGIO has his first start in WA for Tony Giglietta. Hard to ignore the trial and won a BM58 at Kyneton in March. SAMARIA returns to racing and showed she’s more than up to this level when last in work. LADY TORNADO gets a gun run. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – RUPERT’S EMPIRE WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 8,9,10,11,12 1,2,4 1,2,3,5 1,2,6 Market Market
