Scott Embry’s Friday Broome Preview Posted on July 23, 2026July 23, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 RULESQUE is from the powerful Yuill – McLaughlin combination: 31 runners, 8 winners at 25.8% strike rate and 16% POT as a pairing – brilliant season. He is trying to turn the tables on Shasfa from last start and while there’s a half kilo weight swing against him, it is senior rider back on. Very little between these 7 and comes down to who gets the right position early. In Yuilly we trust. THE TOP BAR drops out of a 58+ behind Zorbrist and Big Shots. Really well placed but taking the Yuill lead with Rulesque. TOPAZ actually beat him home by 3L two starts ago when the blinkers were reapplied. Always happy to forgive horses who under-perform at Derby. SHASFA bounced back to form last start but could be a query late at 1435. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – RULESQUE WIN Race 2 CAPRICORN MAN backs up off 6 days out of the Derby Cup where he parked outside the lead and then faded late to finish fifth. Not convinced he runs out 1800m so back in trip to 1615 a plus, back in grade as well and is jumping well enough to cross these. Right race for him. LUCKY LANDING is going better than numerical form suggests. Last season he won fifth-up in a 58+ 1870 when he was finally able to jump and lead. So far he hasn’t seen those conditions just yet. Keeping a close eye on him. BONDI QUEEN absolutely bolted in her maiden and dirt racing is the kind of jurisdiction where you can go maiden to 58+ and win. BORDER FORCE ran a 70+ placing and then went close in a high rating 58+ before tailing out last start. Has had 26 days between runs to hopefully bounce back. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – CAPRICORN MAN EACHWAY Race 3 STAR TESTYMONY ran second to Kings Sicario in the Derby Cup last weekend. Last win was off 7 days at Swan Hill so you know he backs up, he also carried 63.5kg that day so you know he carries weight – there’s actually quite a bit to like about him. Leigh Murray deserves a bit of luck to go his way and this might just be the horse to provide it. Best credentialled stayer in the race. FORTUNES LUCK led and won over 1780m three starts ago. Hasn’t been anywhere near that level since and query whether she runs out the trip? BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE hasn’t really handled the dirt so far but Tash Faithfull reunites with a horse her mum once trained so expect a level of improvement. STREET MASCHINO has been below his best so far this season but he’s dropped a few points and gets in well from the right form race. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – STAR TESTYMONY WIN Race 4 VEVINSKY is back? Turning back the clock to 2024 – he won the Derby Cup by 10L, the Kimberley Cup by 1.9L and then the Broome Cup by 3.3L (before being DQ’d). 8 runs since and he had shown very little to suggest he was anywhere near his former self until last start when leading and winning. The way he won that was like the Vevinsky of old and if he can reproduce then he’ll lead them a merry dance again. WHY ME ran second in that event and gets a 2kg swing the weights to close the gap. He’s trying hard. LOVA SESSION got over the top of them down the centre last start. Don’t see that very often. Big win. WOLFMAN finished a distant second to Pharoah Show last start but that race rated through the roof. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – VEVINSKY WIN Race 5 WHATS THE POINT brought back memories of Ihtsahymn winning in Broome and Darwin for Rob Gulberti many years ago. The ghostly grey (he’s pretty much white) worked through his gears brilliantly at his first outing on the pindan and he romped clear for a highly impressive win. Stays out of trouble and looks like he’ll work his way through the grades quickly in Broome. MOHEGAN RULER has his first start on the dirt for new trainer Roy Rogers. He’s 34 days between runs and fifth-up into a preparation so he’s got plenty of residual fitness in his legs and is really well placed back into a C2 (last 7 have all been Saturday races). Big watch. SEMPRE has been there abouts all season. SEEYOUATTHESESSION wasn’t far behind Sempre last start. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – WHATS THE POINT WIN Race 6 BEYOND THE WALL couldn’t lead and couldn’t win last start. His prior two in Broome were jump and run performances where he proved too quippy for his rivals. Expect that Kyra Yuill will come out charging in an attempt to hold them all early. He has the advantage of the inside gate but is going to absorb pressure. OUTLAW MUSIC backs up off 6 days from a dominant all the way win at Derby. That’s the way to ride him and no doubt he’ll be looking to cross those to his inside. Whether he can is another question. FIRE THE GUARD won two races in Broome last season and has been warmed up for this with a 950m trial at Lark Hill. Respect everything from Team Gulberti. DELICATE RULER has led and won two races in Broome and then not tired on the other occasions. Going to be plenty of horses charging forward early in this. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – BEYOND THE WALL EACHWAY Race 7 NOW YOU SEE ME has won four from four this campaign. He led and won a maiden at Northam and then has won all three of his races at Broome on the dirt. He went into last start at 1200m as a query – stepping up in grade for the first time, stepping out in trip for the first time – but he absolutely destroyed them, winning by 5L and stopping the clock 5L faster than average at the same time. He’s just sustained speed and loving life in the NW. CRUISE TO VICTORY was no match for the 3 year old last start. 2.5kg and an extra 100m should help but can he turn the tables? HOUSEWIFE was a late scratching last start at 1600m so has to come back in distance but will be strong late. ZORBRIST is enigmatic but deserves a crack at open class. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet – NOW YOU SEE ME WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,4,5 1,3 3,4,5,7 1,6 Market Market
