Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on July 23, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson Race 1 Racing on Saturday is at Randwick. Track rated a soft (7) Thursday morning however we’re in for a fine & sunny lead-up, expect an upgrade or two, note the rail is out 11 metres from the 1100m to the winning post. The 2yo’s kick us off with a max of 13 to run & it’s a very competitive looking line up. (3) SCINTILLATION won a recent trial at Rosehill, (14) NAVIGATION was the one closing off late & impressively under little pressure. The rail position, barrier, race experience all suggest I should be tipping the former however there’s just something about (14) NAVIGATION’s trial I really liked & I’m taking the punt, market leads will be all important though. Numbers: 14 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: Top two selections each-way. Race 2 The unbeaten (8) MAPLES comes to town for the first time & looks very well placed to keep her perfect record intact. By The Autumn Sun the rise in distance certainly won’t be an issue & she drops plenty in weight off all 3 starts, 6.5kg less than her latest win. (1) MOON SWEEPER was all the rage here a fortnight back & was being hailed the winner well into the straight, run down late however he was rising 100m having not raced for 6 weeks. Fitter here & placed 3 of 4 outings over this longer trip. (11) LEOVANNI has hit form & will again be strong late. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 11 – 12 Suggested Bet: MAPLES TO WIN. Race 3 Although up in the weights I’m with the consistent (1) THE MONA LISA who looks very close to another win having scored at this level here two back over this very distance. She’ll carry 3kg more than on that occasion & an additional 1kg on her last start second also here over the mile. Drawn to get the right run on a very suitable surface. (4) SWIFT LEGEND strips fitter & is a second up winner, the drier the track the better his chances. Throw (11) ALL STAR into exotics, will need luck from the wide draw, had none last start so may well be due! Numbers: 1 – 4 – 11 – 14 Suggested Bet: THE MONA LISA TO WIN. Race 4 Happy to go with (4) SEQUISTA however only on an each-way basis as she does generally find one or more a little better. Her overall form this prep is stronger than most here though & the last start second to a smart type in Hello Captain rates well, just needs to be close enough from the good draw. (5) MAHERSHALA a very interesting runner, bolted in both starts down south this prep, yes this is a tougher task however has the upside & in the right yard to measure up. Should (8) FASVARA be able to make some use of the good draw & park close enough he’s not without a chance as he can find the line strongly. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: SEQUISTA EACH-WAY. Race 5 Thought (4) AMPLIFY rated an each-way chance here. She’s a winner at this 1800m trip & should be right at her peak, more than happy to forgive the latest when well beaten on a heavy (9), that 27 length margin tells you she just didn’t go a yard in the ground. From a good draw with Rawiller to ride she looks well placed. (9) SATONO JASMINE is going great guns this prep, the penny has certainly dropped with her winning he past 3 starts, she faces a tougher assignment here however just cannot be knocked. 2 & 8 in the mix also. Numbers: 4 – 9 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: AMPLIFY EACH-WAY. Race 6 Have to be with (11) TRAPALANDA who although beaten 4.7 lengths last start could arguably have been a good thing beaten. He looked to be bolting in the straight yet ran into all sorts of traffic issues, once clear very late he found the line strongly, big chance to make amends today. (8) PERFECT JUSTICE has been a model of consistency in recent Highway grade races, with Siena Grima to do the steering & no more weight he can measure up. Victorian visitor (9) NISHINO CRESCENT should be nearing his peak third-up, another to have little luck at his last start. Numbers: 11 – 8 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet: TRAPALANDA TO WIN. Race 7 The same quinella who fought out the finish here a fortnight ago (1) BENEVAC & (10) ZOUFAME can do so again here & I’m with the latter to turn the tables. He gets a 2kg turnaround at the weights for a 2.8 length defeat however I’m more about the drier track being the deciding factor. He was so impressive winning two back on a soft (5) I don’t think he was at home on the heavy (9) last time however didn’t shirk his task one bit. (9) SIR LES can improve, certainly far from disgraced last start. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet: ZOUFAME TO WIN. Race 8 (10) NARBOLD looks well placed here from the good draw with J. Mac to steer. Placed 4 of his 5 starts this prep with the only subpar effort coming two back when having plenty of excuses. Placed all 4 starts here with 3 of those being over tomorrow’s trip. (7) ELECTRIC IMPULSE hasn’t been beaten far his past couple & from the rails gate should get the right run. (3) LUGH was disappointing last start, wouldn’t be surprised to see him bounce back here as he strips a fitter horse. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: NARBOLD EACH-WAY. Race 9 Looking forward to seeing the highly rated (5) ICE KOOL go around here. Cracking first up winner he was extremely tough winning again last start having to sit 3-wide with the big weight, loved the way he dug deep at the business end of the race. Not raced for 5 weeks he has trialled between runs bolting in by a space. Not an ideal draw however he’s good enough to overcome it. (12) BIG RED TEQUILA is also promising, chased home (5) ICE KOOL first two runs this prep before winning with the big weight at Rosehill, looks the logical danger should there be one. The resuming (2) TORQUE TO BE SURE hasn’t been spotted since his well-documented Magic Millions Day success, he’ll be hitting the line hard. Numbers: 5 – 12 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: ICE KOOL TO WIN. Race 10 Going to tip (18) HELLOVA NATURE however I’m very aware as 5th emergency he’s going to be lucky to secure a start. His Cold Brew form line two starts back is a good one & his last start win was with a sharp looking turn of foot, fingers crossed! (9) SO YOU PENCE is yet to win fresh however has placed at all 3 attempts, Drawn well can figure, just keep an eye on the market moves. (4) SMASHING TIME is flying, wide draw the concern. Numbers: 18 – 9 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: READY TO SHINE TO WIN. Market Market
