Scott Embry’s Saturday Geraldton Preview Posted on February 3, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 JUSTA LIL FAITH won well last start in another high speed, high pressure race. In her last three outings she has finished third to Blue Cheyenne and Albert in a C1 1600 (race run 4.5L faster than average), been beaten 2L in a C2 1600 behind Patchwork (race run 5.5L faster than average) and then won a C2 1400 (race run 4.5L faster than average). She’s absorbing the pressure and still finishing off at the end. See no reason why she won’t be hard to beat again. WESTOZI meets her 1kg better at the weights and was pulling late ground off her in the same race last start. Looms as the main danger. SLY AS A FOX stepped out to the staying trip last start and didn’t see it out. Better suited here. IM A BUSH CHOOK improved sharply third-up. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – JUSTA LIL FAITH WIN RACE 2 SECRET ATTIRE should find this lengths easier than recent assignments. She finished third behind King’s Wench and subsequent winner Renato (who beat Trepassing, Supersession and Marmooga in the process) on debut and then was caught in the breeze on the Pinjarra Scarpside track at her second career outing. Only rises half a kilo from a provincial maiden to a country maiden and should be peaking third-up. BEERMULLAH has had a lot of trials (8 in his career to date) and the most impressive of them was the most recent. Can give cheek. DESTRUCTOR steps out to 1400m but will find the top and control. YOU CAN TELL ME continues to get too far back from wide gates. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – SECRET ATTIRE WIN RACE 3 RUSSIAN SNIPER finished 2.5L off Azena and Nunes on debut and then finished third behind Beach West and Hoohah Havana. His recent trial was good enough and from the inside draw he should have no excuses at his return to racing. As we saw at the last few Geraldton meetings Adam Durrant doesn’t mind bring a maiden for an easy kill (It’s Closing Inn, Mocha Dream, Fortune’s Luck). Watch out for replacement riders if the Ascot meeting goes ahead, however, initially CJP had been booked to ride Russian Sniper over the stablemate First Contact. FIRST CONTACT is another who has had a lot of trials prior to racing (7 trials in total over multiple preparations). Is the winner of a 400m jump out and a 950m Lark Hill trial and has to be respected on debut. BOLD PROPHET continues to race well. LEAD GUITAR is quick. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – RUSSIAN SNIPER WIN RACE 4 AWESOME CHATTER went to a 1400m 58+ at Geraldton last start and never really travelled at any stage in running. He was beaten almost 5L in the finish (albeit by three handy types in Dream To Me, Eliminate and subsequent 70+ winner Passport). He went back to trial over 1450 at Lark Hill and looked good when descending upon them and pulling right away for what hopefully was a confidence boosting trial. Keep in mind there may be a rider change, but if they stick with the senior, it’s a show of intent. BUSH ICON sustained a big run last start to win. Not sure whether barrier 1 is any help to her. BLUE CHEYENNE is flying for the new yard. Drops 3kg and can make his move from the 600 again. MR ROSSI coming back to 1600m is a plus and he can lead for a long way. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – AWESOME CHATTER WIN RACE 5 ELIMINATE is a fan favourite of the Midwest. She’s finished in the top four at each of her seven runs this preparation and while she’s only won once she’s been pretty unlucky on multiple occasions (how Tash Faithfull loves the box seat #nightmares). Again last start, through no fault of poor Tash, Eliminate was left searching for runs until the race was over and it looked like she had plenty to offer. Comes back to 1100m in the middle of the preparation but is undeniably flying. JUPITER RISING is always dangerous in the 70+ 1100m races. Gets back and runs on week in, week out. HERITAGE SASH can sprint well fresh and Sean Rains produce them first-up ready to win. BE SEATED showed last start he measures up. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – ELIMINATE WIN RACE 6 MY BABY BLUE JEAN is the first ride for Zephen Johnston-Porter and no doubt his boss Adam Durrant would have been waiting to give him the best chance of kicking home a winner on debut. Nothing better than a 4kg claiming apprentice on a jump and run horse to start their career and that’s exactly what My Baby Blue Jean is. Last start she was eyeballed by Men’s Club and fought him off in the run to the post. He’s since been well supported and won a C1 at Belmont. This is a great opportunity for Zeph to kickstart his career. BAKE SOME MAYBES looks the biggest danger on paper. Has put together two big runs since returning. STREET FAIR will appreciate an extra hundred. DARK PEAK freshened and back in trip. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – MY BABY BLUE JEAN WIN RACE 7 KING’S WENCH ran second to promising colt Costazita first-up, beat home Renato and Secret Attire when three deep the trip second-up and then was forced to punch the breeze in a fast run race third-up when fading back into third behind Solid Gold (since run 2nd in a C3 at Pinjarra). Back 200m, drawn to get cover close handy and into a country C2. Great placement and very winnable for her. JEANELLA won a C2 here first-up and then finished second to Bisector when chasing hard at Belmont. Another nice ride for Zephen Johnston-Porter at his riding debut. MYSTERY MAN is consistent and is rarely far from the winner. WOJTEK is racing well on speed. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – KING’S WENCH WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,7 2,4,5,6 1,7 1,4 Market Market
