Warren Huntly’s Saturday Sandown Preview Posted on February 3, 2023February 3, 2023 | Posted by Warren Huntly Race 1 INUNDATION was noted as pulling up with heat stress last start when $1.40 favourite. He still ran ok and broke the 1000m track record at Moonee Valley the start prior. The cooler forecast and the likelihood of getting his toe in the ground are positives. FIRE worked home strongly after being restrained early in a recent trial. TYCOON HUMMA has jumped out well, she’s usually effective first up and has been scratched a couple of times recently to be reserved for this. ZORRO’S DREAM will be strong late. All other runners have some claims. Selections: 1,3,7,2 Suggested Bet: Inundation to win Race 2 Siding with the race experience, WRITTEN BLIGH would be my pick of the first starters. VEECEE quickened impressively to win down the Flemington straight on debut. SERASANA also impressed on debut and has jumped out nicely to resume. ZULFIQAR gets blinkers on, he has trialled well in Sydney and shown talent in his two runs to date. EXTREMELY WICKED has been back to the jumpouts since an encouraging debut. Selections: 2,3,1,7 Suggested Bet: Playing multiples around 2,3 & 1 Race 3 HENNESSY LAD looks hard to beat, particularly after the claim. He was held up for the majority of the home straight last time and drops back to 3yo company. FIELD THE MOMENT was no match for a talented horse last start but is racing well and will make her own luck. BLACKMAX looked in trouble at his latest start but dug deep to win, the rise in trip should suit. NORTHERN BARRAGE won an easier race in good style at Pakenham and should appreciate the spacious Hillside circuit. Selections: 1,8,2,5 Suggested Bet: Hennessy Lad to win Race 4 Listed as a BM78 but the top rated horse are only rated 67. BENEDETTA is one of the top raters and looks destined for better races, her last two victories give the impression she’s well on the way to black type races. BELMIA also appears promising and Williams to ride is a positive. She doesn’t have a lot of early speed but possesses a powerful finish. The race looks very even outside those two, with COLORADO CRUZ, KIMBERLEY PEARL, DISCERNING, FIELD OF PRAISE the key chances for multiples. Selections: 1,5,4,9 Suggested Bet: Benedetta to win Race 5 Competitive race and it’s probably D Day for VICTORY BAY, who gets winkers on and the nose roll off. He’s had some excuses with race shape and barriers etc. of late, he draws to settle closer and gets in ok after the claim. BRITISH COLUMBIA and MARLION’S DREAM come through the same race and will both strip fitter third up. SUPRARAZI also come through that race, he had his chance but continues to race well. UNUSUAL CULTURE and RHEINBERG have claims. Selections: 7,9,10,1 Suggested Bet: Victory Bay each way Race 6 FOUJITA SAN resumes after competing against the best 3yos during the spring. He’s jumped out well to resume and 1300m on a big track seems suitable first up. DAYTONA BAY looks an obvious danger, he’s building a good record and has jumped out ok to resume. HICKOK ran out of room first up when he looked like he had something to offer. MORRISSY returns to Team Corstens and his recent form is solid. HE’S XCEPTIONAL, CRESTANI and CONQUEROR looks place hopes. Selections: 11,3,12,8 Suggested Bet: Quinella/Exacta 11 & 3 Race 7 EXCELIDA has been jumping out well and looks suited first up at 1300m on the Hillside circuit. VESPERTINE hit the line strongly in a leader dominated Standish and boasts a strong second up record. SNAPPED had no luck in Sydney following a dominant first up win in easier company. She takes on more seasoned opposition but appears to have plenty of upside. WROTE TO ARATAKI, BELLE ET RICH and FORBIDDEN CITY are all fit and racing well and have overlapping form lines. ROSE QUARTZ is on trial at 1300m but is right in the game if she runs it out. Selections: 1,2,11,10 Suggested Bet: Excelida each way Race 8 DETONATOR JACK has been kept fresh since his defeat at short odds last start. His previous form was outstanding and he looks the one to beat. RIGHT YOU ARE has also been kept fresh and has and has shown tactical versatility in his last two wins. BELTORO impressed at Flemington last start. RIOT AND ROSE and DON’T DOUBT DORY have claims. Selections: 5,6,9,11 Suggested Bet: Detonator Jack to win Race 9 Tough finish. SO YOU SEE takes on the boys but sprinted well to win in easy fashion last time and may be starting to live up to her early potential. TIMOUR didn’t have the clearest passage at his first Australian run and has been back to the jumpouts between runs. ST LAWRENCE in unbeaten, he was a bit tradesman like in his latest win but has been freshened since. GLORY DAZE caught the eye at his first Australian run and should relish the rise in distance. HASSELTOFF and RIVERPLATE have strong claims ina deep race. Selections: 9,3,2,1 Suggested Bet: So You See each way Market Market
