Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview

RACE 1

TAKE THE FIELD and MINOZZA come through the same race at Port Hedland on the 20th of June where they finished second and fifth respectively. Going into the race they were $7 and $5.50 respectively SP wise and considering the runs they each got in passage there really wasn’t that much between them. Love the way that Jason Li is riding and like the fact that TAKE THE FIELD finally looks to be finding a set of dirt legs. MINOZZA has been there abouts all preparation and can roll forward which helps. MARITIME DREAM ran well at Carnarvon before being solid at Port Hedland. Gap between runs a query though? COCOON GIRL sat very deep in the My Tea race.

Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 6

Suggested Bet – TAKE THE FIELD WIN

RACE 2

CHANTILLY GIRL gives herself every chance in these races. She’s quicker than anything in this line-up (by a length or two) in the first 100m and being drawn barrier 1 that’s the most important element – must lead and realistically does lead. Thought she was a huge query at 1400m last start but to her credit she kicked on well and was in front for a long way. Back to 1200m, straight to the top and from there is the one to beat. CALATHINITE went around in a 56+ last time out and sat wide throughout before fading back into seventh in a complete forgive. Prior C1 runs were knocking on the door. Logical danger. MY TEA got a confidence boosting maiden win out of the way last start and the form should hold in the opener. GINGERIFFIC ran well at Lark Hill before heading to Port Hedland but hasn’t been seen since (9th May). Must have had a set back?

Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 10

Suggested Bet – CHANTILLY GIRL WIN

RACE 3

FELLAFROMDOWNUNDER is probably going off a start too early (0/10 first-up and second-up across his career) but he grows a leg at Port Hedland and wasn’t horrible at Broome first-up over 1435m. He was beaten over 10L but horses who lose touch with them in the middle stages at Broome get beaten those sorts of margin, whereas at Port Hedland he can actually sustain a run. Won third-up and fourth-up at Port Hedland last year, so yes probably a run early, but in an open and even race with a likely double figure price available going to pull the trigger early. TOUSLED CROWN is going better than numerical form suggests. She hasn’t had much luck in her dirt career so far. RENNOVATION SHOW is an X-Factor. If he can find the top he’ll march along and stay out of the kick back. WARBY RANGES drops out of the Marble Bar Cup.

Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4

Suggested Bet – FELLAFROMDOWNUNDER EACHWAY

RACE 4

DYNAMIC ONE was just in the wrong race last start. After leading and winning by 6.4L (under 62kg) at 1300m he progressed to 1600m where again leading and winning by 2.9L (under 64.5kg) and then dropped back in distance to 1200m. Couldn’t lead and couldn’t win. Forgive, forget and follow him out to 2000. Placed at Wagga over 2000m on the grass so the distance is no issue. ANOTHER NEPHEW had been building and building before taking out the Marble Bar Cup. He’ll be understandably popular. ZADAR ROCK hasn’t fired a shot on the grass. This is dirt and on the dirt he’s a beast. MYSTICAL MAN is always vulnerable with his racing pattern but will keep coming.

Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 7

Suggested Bet – DYNAMIC ONE WIN

RACE 5

FAMEUX is looking to complete a winning hatrick. He has won a 56+ 1200 and a 68+ 1200 at his last two outings so he now remains same track, same distance, same grade and only rises 1.5kg start to start and only concedes 1kg to Catalpa. Happy to suggest he can win again and looks another good ride for Cyclone Sharni on the program. CATALPA hasn’t won a race since West Coast were good at football but his last two suggest he’s getting mighty close #rebuild. He’s getting through the dirt and finishing off well, just wish he didn’t draw barrier 1. ROYALZEL is a Port Hedland specialist and threw away his winning chances at barrier rise last time out. GALAXY AFFAIR is trying hard under the huge weights.

Numbers: 5 – 4 – 3 – 1

Suggested Bet – FAMEUX WIN

RACE 6

IMPERIALIZE is the class runner. He led and won a 56+ 1100 at Roebourne before leading and winning a 56+ at Port Hedland. Should get across from his wide gate and the 1.5kg claim for Jefferson Tsang only helps his cause. Stablemate looks the danger. WING IT broke his maiden at Roebourne and backed it up taking the next step into C1 company with an extra 2kg and won by an impressive 2L margin. If Chantilly Girl is to win Race 2 then the form will look even stronger and being a 3-year-old he has naturally far more upside and promise than many of his older rivals. This is another step up but he’s progressive. IMMORTAL SHIELD won well at Roebourne and went ever so slightly quicker than Wing It same day, same distance. ADRETT got one on the board at Marble Bar.

Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 2

Suggested Bet – IMPERIALIZE WIN

RACE 7

LA SIGNORA DANE has a great strike rate for this grade of racing (19:5-1-2) and looks to be quickly closing in on a maiden dirt victory. Finished just behind key rival Hit The Jackpot at Roebourne on 24 May at 1100m and then finished second to Imperialize (who looks hard to beat in Race 6) here at Port Hedland a month later. 1300m is a slight unknown for her but this looks like it’ll be eachway the field? HIT THE JACKPOT similarly is tested at the end of 1300m, especially after paddling late at Marble Bar. LEADING TADDY won well at the Opening Meeting and then has done things wrong his next two. CROWS didn’t get warm in the Marble Bar Cup but prior run nearly beat Percussion Prince who will be half her price.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 8

Suggested Bet – LA SIGNORA DANE EACHWAY
