Parnham’s Kalgoorlie Gloryland Posted on August 19, 2016 | Posted by Julio Santarelli Gloryland is on trial for the riches of the Kalgoorlie race round if he can negotiate his first venture to the goldfields on Sunday. A strong performance in the Palace Hotel-The Goldrush (1600m) and trainer Neville Parnham will target the Coolgardie Cup (1600m)-Hannans Handicap (1400m). “Part of the reason sending him to Kalgoorlie is to give him experience in travelling,” Parnham said. “If he shapes up and it all suits him then my plan is to target the Coolgardie Cup. “Depending on how he progresses I might even bring him back in distance for the Hannans.” Parnham concedes his patience and skills as a horseman have been tested since Gloryland transferred from Clinton McDonald’s Caulfield stable. The chestnut gelding has raced nine times for four wins at Pinjarra, but he can’t strike similar form in Perth, unplaced in five starts at Ascot and Belmont. “He has been very, very impressive at Pinjarra and he has won by big margins. “The only time he didn’t win by a margin he was taken on for the lead. “I can’t put a handle on why he can’t perform away from Pinjarra. “His runs at Ascot and Belmont have been average. “I’m hoping he can handle the experience Kalgoorlie. “It will be back to the drawing board if he doesn’t. “I will have to think about another plan. “I’m hoping he can shape up to target the Coolgardie Cup.” Gloryland, who last raced on August 8 when he cleared away in front to defeat Jester Rock by three lengths, has drawn barrier two for Steven Parnham. Gloryland’s biggest threat is consistent five-year-old, Tahgeo Jay, one of three starters in the field of seven for trainer, Peter Fernie. The Vital Equine gelding has five wins this campaign and drops back to the mile after a long-head second to Kronfeld (2140m) last week. With the blinkers removed, Tahgeo Jay and jockey Lucy Warwick combine from barrier four.
