Scott Embry’s Sunday Roebourne Preview Posted on May 22, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HIT THE JACKPOT had his first start on the dirt at Port Hedland in a 68+ 1200 when beaten nearly 3L behind Galaxy Affair. Drops from a 68+ back into a 56+, is better for the dirt experience but arguably most importantly is 1200m back to 1103. He’s very speedy and should be able to get across to either cross or at worst sit parked outside of Sansanee. SANSANEE looms as the obvious danger. She went toe to toe with her stablemate Calathinite at the same meeting in the C1 and got the job done in a driving finish. LA SIGNORA DANE goes well fresh and must be respected from the powerful yard of Timo Pike. RED REBEL is no stranger to dirt racing and dropped lots of points at the end of last season. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – HIT THE JACKPOT WIN RACE 2 GALAXY AFFAIR, ROYALZEL and GRANITE ROCK and REGINALD all competed in the same race on opening day at Port Hedland and with the margins and weight swings it’s hard to go past ROYALZEL to turn the tables. He was beaten 1.7L and meets Galaxy Affair a whopping 5kg better at the weights this time around. He travelled really well and chased really hard and this looks his chance to get on the board early in the season. GRANITE ROCK won back to back races at Broome at the end of last season and was a solid return in that same race. Can lead and dictate terms to them here. GALAXY AFFAIR won well but 64.5kg is an ask. CORN COB has been out of form for a while and dirt racing is new to him. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – ROYALZEL WIN RACE 3 EIGHT OUNCES is the only horse in this line up with any dirt experience. That should put him in really good stead to take this event out second-up after racing at Port Hedland at their opening meeting and finishing third behind Chanilly Girl. Until there’s been a bit of exposed form these maidens are majorly guess work early in the season. CATHEDRAL POINT was kept safe in betting at Northam on debut and the winner of that race is odds on at Broome on Saturday. Shades go on, heads to Roebourne and did trial up well on a few occasions on the grass at Lark Hill. WORKING CLASS GIRL is speedy and on the fresh side no doubt Rosie Mahony will be looking to kick though and hold the top in the early stages. WATERSHED WISDOM ran a couple of minors at Albany and does have some gate speed. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – EIGHT OUNCES WIN RACE 4 CHEDDAR BOB trialled at Lark Hill and Belmont before heading up home to Roebourne and the second of those trails was really good behind speedy Saturday type mare Nonesospicy. Expect that Alex Hearn will be aggressive early and that he’ll take beating in this. PURO is through the Star Power race and it rated better than anything on the day. HEZAZEB was a Country Cups King in the 2022/23 season, however, sadly he has been unable to win another race since, the drought now streaking past 1000 days. On the bright side though he has been able to shed enough ratings points that he can now go around in these 56+ races again and that should see him pinch one more before retirement. WARBY RANGES is better than he produced at Hedland. He’s 2/2 at Roebourne. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – CHEDDAR BOB WIN RACE 5 PERCUSSION PRINCE is only 1 from 20 – so he’s not the kind of horse you get too enthused about on the dirt on a Sunday afternoon, however, his fresh run at Port Hedland in a C1 1200 was really good behind Sansanee and Calathinite. Should Sansanee run well in the opening event at 56+ level the form will look good and it was great to see him show some gate speed that many didn’t realise he possessed. QUICK COOKIE will be improved for the dirt outing but after she got shuffled back to near last you could see that she hated the kickback. Must step this time around. GEE BOYS is a maiden but the effort behind Leading Taddy at Port Hedland wasn’t horrible. BIG KARRI next best. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – PERCUSSION PRINCE WIN RACE 6 TORQUED UP is a previous dirt winner who ran really well fresh behind Leading Taddy in a C3 1300 at Port Hedland when wide and working throughout and should only improve into the prep. The trial on the grass prior behind Saam Time Lucky and Strapping Prophet was actually good enough to justify having a start on the grass prior to heading North but Boy Hill threw him straight on the truck and he should be winning races early in the NW season. MAGIC SHOT had his first start in WA and wasn’t disgraced behind Star Power beaten only 5L. Like the way he kept coming. SHE IS GOD was burnt off late in that event, but the leaders did go too hard for their own good early stages. DAWN RETREAT can sustain a run from the back of the field. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – TORQUED UP WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,7,8,9,10 3,5 5,7 4,8 Market Market
