Chris Nelson’s Saturday Sunshine Coast Preview Posted on June 29, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Although back in distance I’m sticking with the locally trained DEFIANT SPIRIT who was very impressive winning his maiden here over this exact distance. He then ventured to Ipswich charging home late to just miss out after giving away a decent start. If close enough in the straight he can run the leaders down. DE SONIC BOOM is a very interesting runner, won a Blue Diamond Prelude on debut before down the track in another & again in the actual Blue Diamond itself, may be better than the lot of these? Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet: DEFIANT SPIRIT TO WIN (small bet) RACE 2 Low depth affair where I’ll lean to BLACKLOG who hasn’t had much go his way of late & is due for a change of luck. Gets the claim & a good gate on paper, the step up in trip isn’t a concern. WARP SPEED looks the toughest to beat, solid fresh has a decent second up record I’d expect he’ll roll forward & find a prominent spot early on. Throw DEVINE FALLS into any exotics at big odds, only country form until last start when winning from tailed off on the Gold Coast Poly. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 12 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 in exotics RACE 3 ENTERPRISE MIA is yet to win fresh from 5 attempts having just placed twice. Judging by her dominant trial win at Deagon she might be further forward than previous preps at this early stage & if there’s solid support, I’m happy to follow on a small scale. RALPHIE right in the mix, racing as well as he ever has. I’ll leave BE WATER MY FRIEND in the top four however he led last start with the rail out which was like gold, that won’t be the case today. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: ENTERPRISE MIA TO WIN (small bet if not a market drifter) RACE 4 Plenty of speed in this race however if GOLDEN BOOM lands a quiet ride with a back to follow he’s clearly the one to beat. He’s always had a wrap on him & comes back plenty in grade from all three efforts this time in. Like the look of CATWALK CRIMINAL from the Adam Campton yard, lightly raced & building a good record he’s a chance of figuring at least in the placings at decent odds. EMPEROR is flying, just has to deal with a difficult draw. Numbers: 1 – 12 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet: GOLDEN BOOM TO WIN RACE 5 Leading metro trainer Tony Gollan holds a strong hand in this race with TICK TOCK QUEEN & LOVE SENSATION representing the stable. In what is an open race I’ll lean to LOVE SENSATION on an each-way basis, she had excuses last start however she did find consistency last prep & her first up run was sound. Good draw, top jockey, plenty of weight unfortunately. TICK TOCK QUEEN is helped by the claim, not by the draw though ending up out in the carpark. SAFEWORK always a chance in this type of race. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet: LOVE SENSATION EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 6 Going to stick with last week’s Eagle Farm winner LUNCIES who was far too good for inferior opposition. He may not win very often & two straight might be an ask however he still has the best formlines in this race through the likes of Without A Fight & with another cold ride he’ll get the entire long straight here to run down the leaders. ZOUMON is going extremely well & will only be fitter again third up. Thought DESERT ICON had his chance at Ipswich & was beaten fair and square, the step up in trip works in his favour though. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 7 The Group 3 Winx Guineas is always a strong race & this year is no different. SOOTHSAYER looks ideally placed ticking many boxes. He’s won here twice over todays mile trip, his form is in stronger races having been competitive against the likes of Hawaii Five Oh & Yellow Brick plus he draws a perfect gate where Tim Clark will have options, I can see him in the first half-dozen. CHAIRMAN will be suited by the step up in distance based on what he did at Ipswich steaming home late. No doubt GREBENI has the right form, dropping back in trip may work against though? Numbers: 2 – 6 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: SOOTHSAYER TO WIN RACE 8 I’m sticking with the very consistent mare AUREUS ANGEL in this year’s Glasshouse Handicap. She’s been terrific her last couple zooming home from the back of the field suggesting the 1400m trip coupled with the long run home here will suit nicely. The inside alley could work for or against her however with a clear crack at them late she’ll prove hard to hold out. GRAVINA was terrific in the Eyeliner, wide & working he beat all bar the winner. IRISH SONGS is a roughie worth throwing in the mix. Numbers: 14 – 4 – 15 – 7 Suggested Bet: AUREUS ANGEL EACH-WAY RACE 9 Keen on RUBIQUITOUS to send us all home on a winning note. He’s at his best when ridden positively in front & I’d be very surprised if that wasn’t the case here as only he & Eyewitness map to go forward. Yes, he has the big weight however he can offset that by rolling along in front rather than having to pick up & sprint from off speed. GOLDSBOROUGH prefers give in the ground however always races well here. SHAMROCK LU & RED RUBI will be running home late. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet: RUBIQUITOUS TO WIN Market Market
