Michael Heaton’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on April 9, 2026April 9, 2026 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 BUON AMICI bungled the start first up last week then got tightened when he was making his run on straightening in a tough watch. If he can have a clean getaway he’s capable of bouncing to the lead in what looks a race without much pace and he’d be hard to run down from there. CANNOTSTOP resumes off the back of 2 encouraging trials where he did his best work late. He’ll likely settle last but it’s only a 6-horse field and he should be within striking distance on straightening. LANTA was solid first up despite laying in noticeably late and the senior rider going on helps. ROYAL GUARDIAN the other improver second-up with a senior rider going on. Numbers: 3-4-1-6 Suggested Bet – BUON AMICI WIN RACE 2 DEEPLY ROOTED was a big run first up, no trial when making good late ground on an on-speed day last week. He’s now drawn better with a run under his belt, gets an extra 100m and he contested better races than this last preparation. SPANGLEDSTAR comes from the same race in what was her first start for Brett Drury when beating home Deeply Rooted but she looks destined to settle last from her draw. LUMINOUS LADY ran fourth in the same race first up and she hasn’t been far away at most of her career starts to date. ARCTIC FOX has been freshened and should land on-speed. Numbers: 2-3-7-5 Suggested Bet – DEEPLY ROOTED WIN RACE 3 LAVISH CHARM resumes and looks a progressive 4YO who can go through the grades this season. He won his last 3 starts of his last campaign, recorded good figures in doing so and he looks the likely leader. THE SHOWVINIST makes his WA debut and brings strong east-coast form for Kalgoorlie. 3 of his 4 wins have come on the synthetic and he looks a 1000m specialist but he has to be respected on class alone. SUNSHINE TAFE makes her return after an underwhelming last campaign but if she can return to her form from 2 preparations ago she’ll be winning races this time in. THE LIONS’ GATE will likely get back and do his best work late first up. Numbers: 2-1-6-3 Suggested Bet – LAVISH CHARM WIN RACE 4 STYLIN’ is 7 weeks between runs and has drawn awkwardly but she’ll still be hard to beat if she can reproduce her first-up run at Belmont when finishing third to Excess Baggage (subsequent Saturday second) and Miss Valmalenco (subsequent Belmont winner) and beating home subsequent dual winners in Fearless Talk and Eternal Wine. NISTIRITH brought handy form to Kalgoorlie last week and was able to lead and absorb pressure to break her maiden status in nice fashion. She looks a filly with upside. JAYASHREE resumes at a distance short of her best but looks a capable type who should improve in her second preparation with Peter Fernie. COULDBEENAHANDBAG has been good at her last couple and gets a sweet run. Numbers: 7-6-3-4 Suggested Bet – STYLIN’ WIN RACE 5 PUISSANCE PLAYBOY broke his maiden status in style on Esperance Cup day before making late ground into second at Albany last start. He now strikes a race devoid of natural speed and has the benefit of race fitness on most of his rivals so he can bounce on the pace and have a tactical advantage. BONDI’S SON has always done his best work at Kalgoorlie and hit the line well last week. He’ll likely get back again from the awkward draw but will be strong late. JUST SUBLIME was never in the hunt first up when settling a long way back in a race where they covered a fair bit of real estate. She still ran all the fastest closing sectionals and now steps to 1400m with a senior rider aboard. I NEVER DREAMED is an honest mare resuming. Numbers: 1-7-6-2 Suggested Bet – PUISSANCE PLAYBOY WIN RACE 6 CHIPILLY worked to the top and bolted in by almost 3L first up and should only improve further into her preparation. She now rises from a C2 to a 58+ but drops 2.5kg, has finished top 2 at both of her previous second-up runs, is better suited stepping to 1300m and looks the likely leader again. Hard to beat. DUBLIN RED is always capable of a cheeky run fresh and she should get a soft run along the fence. PLEASE MIZTER likely needs a bit further but is a natural improver second-up and with Lucy Fiore jumping aboard. LACIE ACE made good late ground first up at odds but likely settles last again. Numbers: 5-7-1-10 Suggested Bet – CHIPILLY WIN RACE 7 JUST FAMOUS is another handy type resuming at their second campaign in Peter Fernie’s care. The Justify 5YO won his last 2 starts in impressive style, goes well fresh and brings a strong SP profile. SCIENCE DEGREE was a nice return first up last week and was a bit stiff to bump into the classy Prawns Eleven. He can work his way to the top again and be hard to run down. LENIENCY joins the yard of owner Joanne Forrest and should be a handy Kalgoorlie horse but he has an 1,107-day winning drought to break. DON’T WAIT FOR LUCK will likely have to be ridden quietly first up from a wide draw at 1200m but should be strong at the finish. Numbers: 4-5-6-2 Suggested Bet – JUST FAMOUS WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,4,7 1,2,3,6,7,8 5,7 4,5,6 144 combinations Market Market
