Matt Young’s Saturday Northam Preview Posted on April 9, 2026April 10, 2026 | Posted by Matt Young Race 1 AMERICAN TYPHOON (1) has the draw and speed to lead over the short course, she wasn’t a bad effort when a distant fourth at Gloucester Park and form has been good since going to Peter Tilbrook’s stable, hard to beat. MONEY WELL SPENT (2) bolted in last time out and is heading in the right direction, might be driven aggressively here. HUGHEY (5) pays to forgive last time out but it’s an awkward draw, he will be running home and SOUTHERN ROCK (6) is improving nicely and likely heads towards a forward position. RISING SPIRIT (8) could improve further here and must be respected. Tips: 1 2 6 8 Suggested Bet: AMERICAN TYPHOON (1) to win. Race 2 Nice event here. PARAGLIDER (1) is a horse I liked last time in and think there is ability there, has the nice draw with options and happy to play that way with a break and prep under the belt. BEAU TOULOUSE (9) has been trialling well and looks a decent chance to be dangerous on debut. LIANAKA (2) has shown some promise and drawn in close, could get into a good position and be dangerous. FIRTH OF CLYDE (6) is racing well since returning but has a tough draw to face and map of his race will be intriguing. INVISIBLE EVIL (4) is a novelty chance on debut off the back of trials Tips: 1 9 2 6 Suggested Bet: PARAGLIDER (1) to win. Race 3 VALHALLA MISS (5) can charge across and potentially lead here; she is a good front running type and has decent early speed with her run at Pinjarra two starts ago suggesting she is ready to win. GET YA BETS ON (6) is racing well and has plenty of high speed, will be dangerous. BRODIE BOY (9) is first up for the new stable and although I prefer him on speed, this grade could suggest him running on well. DARE TO LIE (1) can be hit and miss early but has shown promise. ZUEDE (7) is reliant on luck but ready to win. Tips: 5 6 9 7 Suggested Bet: VALHALLA MISS (5) to win. Race 4 OVERLY EXCITED (5) ran into bother last time out but the first up run was very good, and he looks hard to beat in this, suitable grade and can be driven like the best horse. GELSOMINO AMAL (1) will come out and look for cover on the right horse and think that’ll be the on top selection, she is racing well but looks more of a novelty chance chasing. THE WAND WAVER (7) is racing well but requires a touch of luck from the draw, strong novelty claims with some winning claims. WHOS THE DAD (6) is racing well enough but faces a tricky draw, may roll forward and try and stick it out from there. MISTER PICCOLO (8) had no luck last time out but represents a novelty chance with TAKE A HIKE (4) who could improve second up. Tips: 5 1 7 6 Suggested Bet: OVERLY EXCITED (5) to win. Race 5 Open race. BATAVIA STREAMLINE (4) can begin well on her night and thought there was a chance of finding the top and if she did that, she would go close to winning. SAVE THIS DANCE (6) was solid after a freshen up but also faces a tricky draw, still his last run caught the eye. VISITING HOURS (10) has the high speed to overcome the draw but just needs a touch of luck. MUMMAS LITTLE STAR (1) could be an improver from the inside draw settling closer and looks a novelty chance with FIREBALL FRIDAY (2), WATCHING LIPPY (3), CIAO BABE (7) and SATAN PRINCESS (8). Tips: 4 6 10 1 Suggested Bet: BATAVIA STREAMLINE (4) to win. Race 6 BREWERY LANE (6) will be using his early brilliance from the tapes to try and bounce on the bunny; he is the most likely leader and from that position he can go all the way over the shorter distance. CALL TO ARMS (2) is running first up for Ashleigh Markham who does a good job with his team, expecting him to run well here as he can step nicely and has had excuses for a lot of his unplaced runs this time in. EN PARIANT SUR (5) was better last time out and will be looking to head forward as well, the race will be on but think he is not as quick early as the on top selection. STRAUNY (10) suited to the grade, but distance is a query as he likes to work into his gears. GOGGINS (4) might need the run coming in off a freshen up. Tips: 6 2 5 10 Suggested Bet: BREWERY LANE (6) to win. Race 7 BOUGIE (1) looks set to dominate this, solid effort on return in good time and only issue I can see is early speed, but I don’t think any of that will matter, if she paces, she should win. RAVENOUS (4) has high speed and should be saved up for one run and dash into the placings. SHOOBEES BOMB (3) has shown enough to be considered a novelty chance with LUCKY TWISTER (9) and LORD VINCENTIUS (6) is expected to improve in this but faces the wide draw. Tips: 1 6 4 3 Suggested Bet: RAVENOUS (4) to place. Race 8 AMERICAN EYES (3) has caught my eye in trials and looks to have good early speed and should bounce on the lead and win easy in my opinion. DOWN TENNESSEE (1) has some ability but can be shaky early with gate speed. CAPPY THE FIREY (2) had some excuses last time out and think he could be placed in this with STARANNA (4) a hard horse to catch but hit the line well last time out. CHEVRONS GOLD (6) is improving nicely and has the form on the board to be considered but at this stage prefer at the shorter distance. LOWLANDS BEACH BOY (5) a big lanky type who can feature in the novelties. Tips: 3 2 1 6 Suggested Bet: AMERICAN EYES (3) to win. Market Market
