Scott Embry’s Saturday Broome Preview Posted on June 29, 2023June 29, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 JUST FOR MARCUS was popular in betting at his first start in Broome and not a lot went right for him from a wide gate. He was caught deep throughout and was beaten a long way. 28 day later he has blinkers going on and meets a much weaker line-up of maidens. Anthony Barton has 3 runners and this is the one that Simone Altieri is riding. That’s the lead. SHOOT TO FRILL has speed and should fire across into a prominent position. Broome has been a leaders paradise so far. BLITZ EM HENRY sat up on speed in a Belmont trial and went well. ROSES JESTER could be an improver drawn the inside. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – JUST FOR MARCUS WIN RACE 2 WUHAN WARRIOR should continue his way through the grades. Won a C2 1100 by 5L in a time 2L faster than average and then backed it up with a 3.75L win in a time 1L faster than average. He’s jumping, he’s rolling and he’s showing no signs of stopping at this stage. Most of these front runners continue to win when they’re in form. STAR SOPRANO is the fly in the ointment. He’s very quick when allowed to roll. Interesting to see if they look to hold out Wuhan Warrior and lead. Big danger if he does so. ORNAMENTAL BELLE tries hard and will keep chasing. MORDOR isn’t racing at his peak. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – WUHAN WARRIOR WIN RACE 3 SIOUX CITY had his first start for Danny & Luke Morton last Sunday and ran third in a 58+ behind So Sway and City Regal. Backs up off 6 days, drops in grade back into a C2 and is drawn barrier 1 to kick through and lead. At the moment the races in Broome are almost lead or lose so can’t see them handing up. AIN’T I A WOMAN is far better suited coming back 100m to 1100 and she never gave up the chase last Sunday. PAEROA LAD won well at the opening meeting when leading and bolting in. UNDER THE RADAR stuck on well after trying to eye-ball Wuhan Warrior last start. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SIOUX CITY WIN RACE 4 POWERFUL looks to have found a wonderful race. He was wide throughout with 62kg last week and kept coming to the line. He’s a noted back up horse (won off 4 days with 63.5kg on Cup Day last year) and strikes a race with far less speed than recent assignments. Thinking that Jess Valenti can nearly roll to the top in this and from there he would be hard to get past. TRUE ATTRACTION has 64kg but brings big intrigue at his Broome debut. Could be a big Cups Contender. DASHING IMAGE is racing well and looking for this trip. SHEIKH IT is better than his last two runs. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – POWERFUL WIN RACE 5 MISS EUGEN is almost the only horse all season to have won from off speed. That’s a big tick for her and staying in C2 company see no reason why she won’t go close to winning again. Got through the pack, handled the dirt and the kickback and was extending late. Extra 235m only in her favour. UNO ME got the job done last Sunday and even rising 4kg looks hard to beat on the back-up. Drops from a 58+ to a C2. Nice placement. SINGLETON PARK was fair last week. He kept whacking away after coming under pressure a long way out. SAFFIANO was better last start. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – MISS EUGEN WIN RACE 6 DEMERITS PRIDE has bars going on behind which is an obvious red flag but it was hard to miss his run last Sunday. He was beaten 5.5L but he looked to have plenty to offer in the straight and then charged through the line past the post. Backs up, gets Simone Altieri on and drops back to a C1. Still may want further but willing to follow him here. HERE NO CASH and LO LO LONHRO met two starts ago and there was not much between them. Both rise 2kg from their respective maiden wins. CONTESSA MEDICI is racing really well and deserves to win one. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – DEMERITS PRIDE WIN RACE 7 SUNSPHERE is drawn wide and tends to get back. That’s not usually a formula you’d want to follow at Broome (especially so far this season) but with no Rogue’s Point in this race he really looks to get his chance. He rises 5kg but can park deep and stay out of trouble. He’s putting on really nice Cups trials so far. Another stepping stone here. KORANIS is another who will appreciate the fact there’s no Rogue’s Point. No massive speed so likely rolls forward. DANEHILL STORM amazingly doesn’t have a rider yet. Gives serious cheek in front if finding one. BONNEVILLE BLACK an improver. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – SUNSPHERE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,5 2,3,4 2,3,4,6 1,5 Market Market
