Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on January 30, 2025January 30, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing in Sydney on Saturday will be at Rosehill under fine skies on dry ground. The meeting kicks off with a 1500m Highway where I’m with the front running ADOLPHUS who gets Tim Clark to steer which is a very positive engagement in relation to this horse’s racing pattern. Fitter for the second-up run I like him back to 1500m today. Without doubt IMATRUESTAR brings better form lines than most, just has to deal with a wide gate. RABPIDASH gets in well at the weights under the plate conditions. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 12 – 9 Suggested Bet: ADOLPHUS EACH-WAY. RACE 2 From the Highway straight into the Midway! Not a great deal of depth to this week’s running where I’ll lean to the progressive POCKETING who although not raced since New Year’s Day just looks to have a bit on this opposition as he’s going places whereas they have either gone or won’t be going anytime soon. He has trialled well since to keep those fitness levels up. SPICY HOTPOT has come back in good order this prep & could well be the danger should there be one. SILENSTAR a place chance. Numbers: 9 – 7 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: POCKETING TO WIN (looking for market support). RACE 3 The Group 3 Canonbury for the 2yo males looks tough even allowing for the small numbers. Should there be any market support in the lead-up for the debutante TROPIC I’d suggest following it. Both trials have been solid, the latest looking like he had plenty in the tank. BURMA STAR closed nicely to win his recent hit out at Hawkesbury & keep in mind duelled with the well performed Icarian Dream on debut with nothing between the pair on the line. PELEUS is another to be kept on the safe side. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet: TROPIC/BURMA STAR (market moves?) RACE 4 Now it’s the girls turn to do battle in the Group 3 Widden. As was the case in the previous race I’m with one of the first starters to come out on top & that’s SNITZEL MISS who has trialled twice recently, the latest a marginal win over the well performed Within The Law where she appeared to be the less pressured. THE PLAYWRIGHT has the score on the board with a victory over Icarian Dream on debut before placing in the McLachlan & 4th in the Magic Millions, drop back in trip ideal. IN LIMBO closed well her only outing to date & all the better for it. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: SNITZEL MISS (market support). RACE 5 Hard to fault the form of the lightly raced LILAC who resumes from a spell here having bolted in a recent Warwick Farm trial (heavy track). Beaten only once in three starts last prep & that was by the Caulfield Guineas winner, hard to go past. POLYGLOT was well supported to win first up, J. Mac sticks which suggests he’s capable of repeating the effort. PANIC has a first a good fresh record & draws the pole gate, should run well. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 1 – 13 Suggested Bet: LILAC TO WIN. RACE 6 This looks a complete lottery! I’ll lean to the second-up KAPARIKI who wasn’t far away fresh & shouldn’t find this any harder. Drawn to gain the right run he gets the gun jockey to steer & has performed well on his home track to date, the price on offer looks fair enough as I wouldn’t be launching into anything short. OUR ANCHORAGE has come back in good order unbeaten both runs this time in, even with the claim rises plenty in weight however I don’t see that as a major issue. The in-form SO NEWCHEE THINKS can be included, up in grade yes, can’t knock winning form though. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 Call me crazy however I’m going to stick with BUNKER HUT who broke a run of 7 straight placings here last start with a marginal fourth & in all fairness should have finished closer. Good gate once again he should land close enough & could prove the strongest late. INFATUATION is very consistent, will no doubt race on speed again, she’s likely the one BUNKER HUT & others will be gunning down & she’s not all that strong at the end of her races. STARMAN has his hoof firmly on the till, the wide gate makes his task a tough one today though. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet: BUNKER HUT EACH-WAY. RACE 8 The Group 3 Southern Cross for the sprinters should see another win to ACCREDITED who gets in with no weight on his back & is racing in the best form of his career. Yes, he’s rising in grade however that weight drop plus his on-speed pattern suggests he can get the job done. WILLAIDOW will be an on paced rival, terrific last prep he can return with a bang. Similar to ACCREDITED, DISNECK who has been taking all before him of late in restricted grade now goes to something stronger, he too can measure up. HARD TO SAY has the right form, he just struggles at this trip though. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet: ACCREDITED TO WIN. RACE 9 I’m a bit of a sucker for SPRING LEE & was with her first up here recently when finishing in the placings. Fair to say she didn’t look like winning as she settled too far back in the field however she did make ground & this time around she draws a little better, drops plenty in weight & obviously strips fitter. TIME TO BOOGIE very hard to beat, good fresh, excuses second up & a winner back to the trials since. The consistent EYE OF THE FIRE in the mix also. Numbers: 14 – 6 – 12 – 1 Suggested Bet: SPRING LEE TO WIN/SAVING TIME TO BOOGIE. RACE 10 Complete no brainer in this final race with YORKSHIRE looking all set to go upon his winning ways. He duelled with ACCREDITED two starts back only going down marginally & likely lacking a little fitness being first up on that occasion. He quickly made up for that with a dominant Wyong win & with J. Mac now jumping on looks an ever better bet now. FOR VICTORY was a complete train wreck at Randwick last Saturday, made ground under no urgings & with basically no room! SANDPAPER is racing well, chance here with luck from the wide draw. Numbers: 8 – 18 – 12 – 13 Suggested Bet: YORKSHIRE TO WIN. Market Market
