Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on January 30, 2025January 30, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ATLANTIS BEACH and KING’S PARADE contested the Grandstand Cup at Pinjarra on 1 December and there was 2L between them on the line. There’s a 2kg weight pull in favour of KING’S PARADE from that encounter and he is an Ascot horse, whereas ATLANTIS BEACH historically isn’t. They look the two on paper so happy to side up with KING’S PARADE over ATLANTIS BEACH in a thin 0MWLY 1800. STRIKING FELLA is trying hard but can’t quite pinch one. OCEAN RANGER a watch off the 6 day spin. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – KINGS PARADE WIN RACE 2 KING ADVISO bounces straight on the front here and likely has a roughie to his outside and a roughie sitting box seat behind him. That’s an ideal scenario for a front runner, to kick clear into the corner and have the rest of the field needing to get around tiring horses. C5 back to C3, fitter second-up and leads without pressure. Like the set up and likely goes around eachway. COMIC HERO is the class runner and will be charging late. He’s extremely well placed as a 60+ Graduation winner in a C3. CAVALLO RED split Lonsdaleite and Memory Parade first-up. Monster effort. CENTRE BOND is a nice type resuming. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – KING ADVISO EACHWAY RACE 3 WANT A WINNER was an impressive debut winner as a 2 year old in March 2024 and hasn’t been seen at the races since. Trialled in June, trialled in September and has trialled again in January so they’ve clearly had to work through a few issues but he’s got undeniable ability. SNOW GOD will need to take a big step from maiden into Saturday 3 year old company but the race day experience will bring him on and the visors will sharpen him up. KEEP ITA MYSTERY does no work and is proven at the level. CLEANEMUP is drawn sticky. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – WANT A WINNER EACHWAY RACE 4 STRIDEAWAY resumes off a 3 month freshen and trialled super recently. Laqdar never took her out of first gear and she covered the ground effortlessly. Like the fact she’s had a race prep and a break and think she’ll be hard to beat on return. CAPITOLA beat her home on debut before she turned the tables on him second-up. SLIP THE JAB was brilliant in his 400m jump out. Will burn turf, will he run 1100m? DO I FEEL LUCKY was ultra impressive last start but is up 3.5kg and drawn really poorly. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – STRIDEAWAY WIN RACE 5 ROCKET JUICE should be given every chance here. Strong first-up winner and then dropped back to an unsuitable 1000m last time out. Back to 1200, drawn to get the run of the race and should be presenting at the right time. In for a good prep. WAR GEM could be the forgotten horse. 9 of his last 11 have been in higher grade and he trialled really well behind a sharp filly without his race day visors. JUST SAINT JAMES was dominant down the straight but that is his preferred track/style. PLAYING GAMES fought on well last start. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – ROCKET JUICE WIN RACE 6 STORMAGEDDON is the one that most punters are going to want here. He was a good thing beat last start when held up behind a wall of horses before getting out when the race was all over and flashing home into second behind Noteworthy. Fingers crossed this time he gets the splits when he needs them. ROCKING SOCIETY was an alarming late drifter in that race and had to make his run before Lucy Fiore would have ideally liked under the 60kg. Had to go when she did but was left exposed and vulnerable late. FLOWER IN THE WIND is ready. ALASKAN peaked under the weight last weekend. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – STORMAGEDDON WIN RACE 7 AT YOUR SERVICE is only coming out of a midweek C1 but she ran into a really progressive horse in All Grunt, they stopped the clock 4.5L faster than C1 average and there have already been two subsequent winners out of the race. Drawn to get a nice run behind a really genuine tempo and looks to get the run she needs. RAPID ROCK is through the same race and gets weight relief and a senior rider. LOST CITY trialled well and has always shown ability. Grant & Alana’s recent strike rate is ludicrous. BEST MOOD just needs a good steer. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – AT YOUR SERVICE EACHWAY RACE 8 PRINCE OF SANTOS won like a horse who could work his way through the grades this campaign. Travelled boldly behind runners before exploding through to put an extending 2.4L margin on them. This is not a deep 60+ Graduation and gives Austin Galati a wonderful opportunity in town. GREAT DEMON was unsuited by the stop-start nature of the race first-up. He needs a clean flow into his races and gets that from the wider draw. CHINO LA DIVA has really turned a corner in the last month. BOAB BOY was a solid debut for Simon Miller Racing. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – PRINCE OF SANTOS WIN RACE 9 PAPAVERO PRINCESS went under at $1.45 last start but with Senessional winning last weekend there’s no worries with the form out of that race and she’s much better suited in a race with a natural leader. Going to be forgiving and follow up with her because she just got lost last start. HOSTILE TALK has won his last two like a horse who is going to really burst through the grades. Massive chance again. BRUCE ALMIGHTY is that leader and is capable of pinching races when left alone for too long. KNOT SECRET is getting closer to another win. Meets Hostile Talk and Bruce Almighty both 2kg better for recent defeats. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – PAPAVERO PRINCESS WIN RACE 10 BONJOY is a proper mare. She’s now won 10 races from 17 outings and considering she was off a 5-week spacing due to a hoof abscess you can only imagine that she’ll be even stronger at the back end of this. She’s got versatility, she’s got point to point speed and she just knows how to win. Mares like her are a punters dream. RUSSIAN TO THE BAR meets her 1.5kg better but again likely concedes her a head start in running. SENSESSIONAL got himself out of a tricky spot last week to grab the leader in a very slowly run race. Measures up. OWN THE QUEEN is doing herself no favours at the minute. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet – BONJOY WIN Same Race Multi – Bonjoy (Top 2) + Russian To The Bar (Top 3) Looks a swoopers race and that means that the top two from the Celebration Of Life Day Trophy in Bonjoy and Russian To The Bar should be right to the fore again. Bonjoy has a brilliant strike rate as the winner of 10 from 17 and just continues to improve. Genuine Railway Stakes contender in 2025 if they keep her in one piece. Russian To The Bar gets a 1.5kg to try and match motors with her late. RACE 11 SONOFTHEBOSS looks a nice bet in the last. Brayden Gaerth has had 4 rides for 2 wins and 2 minors – great association, he drops from a 72+ back into a 66+ – great placement, he’s drawn to get a nice run close handy to the speed – great map and he’s going to go around eachway. Plenty to like. GOLDEN VALE is well placed as a filly taking on the older horses but ultimately hasn’t won since she was a 2 year old. SIBERIAN SIREN has trialled super but is drawn a bit tricky. LONSDALEITE will settle last, pull widest and be looking to round up each and every runner late. Not easy but can win. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – SONOFTHEBOSS EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 8 – 11) 1,2,3,5,6,7,9 6,8 3,4,6 2,3,7,8,9 Market Market
