Race 1

Respect the placement of OCEAN BAY this prep putting together a trio of wins, now goes soft tracks to potentially firm and has a tricky gate, could settle closer to the speed. Also nominated for Cranbourne Friday, a softer option. NAINA was unlucky & held up at a key stage at Caulfield Heath, she’s placed to win with a good draw. PERFECT NIGHT has a good finish but negative pattern, there is a good tempo expected and can improve further 2nd up. A DIVA is unbeaten fresh, big market watch resuming.

Race 2

The speed is hot! BACASH, WEAPON CLEAR, PLUNGER and GEORGIE GET MAD all go forward. ELECTRIC ELVIS has been in good form, took a sit at Bendigo which were the wrong tactics, good draw, lands a trailing spot, like the map, wet to dry is the query. YUM loves a fast tempo and her latest , wide draw no knock with her style, needs track pattern in her favour, expecting a big run on the home track, 1200m just short of her best. IMPERIAL AWARD is progressive, this is a big ask at start three, trained locally, keeping safe.

Race 3

Pace should be strong with NAVAL ACADEMY taking it up, well-backed and failed to fire in the small field at Flemington. RECUPERATO will be positive to either lead or sit outside lead and placed to win with Jamie Melham down at 54.5kg. TEST OF LOVE can settle handy, latest jumpout has him competitive fresh but did take runs to build into his prep last time so place chance only. VERDOUX is a good, tough sprinter with an excellent fresh record, with even luck from the barrier he’s a great chance and top pick.

Race 4

Similar fast speed expected to R2, TRES MAGNIFIQUE is well-placed, she was burning up the grass at Cranbourne jumpouts but didn’t couldn’t capitalise first-up, still doing a bit wrong in her races, like the freshen up into this 1000m contest with gate 1 and J Melham. INTEREST POINT creates interest at 1000m on a fast tempo which is his preferred scenario and lines up on his home track 2nd up, a firm surface and another who is not disadvantaged by a wide barrier. SNOW MERCY and CHARCOALS have winning claims; the former should be nearing her top and has a touch of class and a finish with speed on.

Race 5

SAPPHIRE SIREN is very progressive and looks to control the tempo stepping up sharply in distance. Gap between the runs is the concern, watch betting. ZIRYAB will kick up and try apply pressure, he has the fitness advantage now ready to peak third-up. FEDERER has race fitness advantage and a good record at 2000m, needs the speed on may receive if stablemate ZIRYAB runs along early. MR O’REILLY has genuine claims down in the weights, if they can be positive and slide in behind the speed, some hope.

Race 6

Speed from CHIEF LITTLE ROCK who did his best Might ‘N’ Power impersonation at Flemington and found out he was not. Sticking on ok in the straight. Looks the sole leader and unlikely to go as hard as he did there. RUAKAKA RAIDER found himself in the inferior ground going to 2400 for the first time at Sandown last start, should only improve for the run and had been going well prior, not out of this. The favourite LEONCHROI romped in last on the Hillside, similar field, no weight, the one to beat.

Race 7

CONCORD CONNIE has a fast win at Flemington and deserving of her price at the top of the market, she has a couple of things to overcome, an even speed at 1200m and lumping 59kg for a mare not overly big in size and 1200m at the bottom of her distance range. HANKEE ALPHA is the unknown, the former kiwi with a big finish, local jumpouts have her potentially ridden closer to the speed, a big advantage if that eventuates. QUEEN CHRISTINE has been flying on wet tracks, likely leader, back to dry surface. GRAND OMAHA has residual fitness from QLD, home track, in the mix for the minor money.

Race 8

Best race of the day and a good pace setting up for the two progressive types locking horns. VEYEPEE current 1st emergency, finds a good race up in grade with a light weight and has options from the barrier, big win from off the speed first-up, hard to beat. BUCCLEUCH was kidding to his rivals in a fast run 1400 last start and put them away, stepping up to 1600m. MR VERSE rattled home from the back at Flem before failing in two subsequent efforts in Sydney. The speed on brings him home. CASTLE ON HIGH has been solid right through the prep, another appreciating the speed on.
