Glenn Ingram’s Sunday Caulfield Preview

Race 1

BUGGSY was the run of the race in the Poseidon. Expect more intent this time from a wide draw, no penalty over 1110m at Caulfield. TALES OF TIME got back at 1000 first-up and hit the line strongly to win, tougher race, good draw and good speed on to be finishing best. JARBARDAR bolted in at Wagga on debut and ran a star filly to 2nd at his next start, two jumpouts, has gate speed, one of the key hopes. WONDERFUL SKY has upside and good run in the Breeders first-up, should take natural improvement into this.

Race 2

PRETTY BABY smashed our local fillies in quick time at Sandown to elevate herself up the markets for spring classics. Arguably found a weaker race en route to those, wary of it being a prep run for the GF. The Sydney form looks her only threats. CHERRY BELL and BY CHOICE come through the same race, the former started firm in the market, the latter had no luck, all eyes will be on the late moves with the form hard to line up. PATINUM PEARL, REGAL AMBITION and RUBI’S CHOICE best of the locals, the Eurell mare needs firm ground so a watch on the weather.

Race 3

Genuine speed, SAPPHIRE SIREN would be part of the speed, likely to run Saturday at Mornington. SMOKIN ROMAS and SEA THAT STORM go forward, so too FUTURE HISTORY and ROYAL SUPREMACY. SUNTORA may be the one who finds the best run and is building nicely into this 2000m race third-up. DARKBONEE is a confusing horse, started the prep on a high and was awful at Caulfield last start, freshened with a good jumpout between runs, take on trust. TORRANZINO has jumpout well to resume, tricky camp, watch for any market support.

Race 4

OVER THE BRIDGE adds some interest as an impressive debut winner at Bendigo, the market was all over her and won with plenty in hand, sharp class rise but they are even bunch. Respect the SF of Scintillation and the good run behind Satono Glow in the Cap D’Antibes, clear 2nd pick for mine. I suspect LUCKY BROOK is better than what she showed first-up, lovely trial around this circuit leading in to the prep. Riding for cover may produce a better outcome although Blake Shinn has jumped off her to ride SUNBLISS and that horse has upside.

Race 5

PRIDE OF JENNI’s eyes will light up when she sees the rail out 13m, flying at the jumpouts, track needs to be on the better side of soft for her running to her best and fitness should be no issue. ZAMBARDO is ready to deliver, snagged against his usual pattern at Sandown and flew late, closer to a strong speed this time, key winning chance. MR BRIGHTSIDE firm track the excuse last time, rain on the way and won’t be any excuses on Sunday. ANOTHER WIL improved out of sight last time. Top 4 hopes.

Race 6

Good race, the speed where they position will dictate the outcome. Market looks about right between the two progressive types in LARA ANTIPOVA and DIAMETER. The former was awful first-up, managing feet issues, back to somewhere near her best last start winning at Caulfield. Zac Lloyd replaces Mark Zahra down in the weights, both can settle handy, DIAMETER may need luck if he’s crossed. SOMETHINGS BURNIN’ gets the speed on to suit.  CIGNETTI copped a horrific steer taking a sit in a slow race at Sandown. Takes on stronger opposition this time and gap between runs a concern.

Race 7

MOONLIGHT CIRCUS was good fresh hitting the line and didn’t appreciate being on the inside of runners, back to the jumpouts since and is ready to win. The rail out 5m is not ideal. SASS APPEAL rode a fast speed last start and stuck pon bravely, key chance, so too CHANGING COLOURS, stable have done a great job teaching her to win and keeping her fresh between races, barrier is tricky. GOLD MEDALLIST has done little in two runs and that was similar to last prep but then was smashed in betting third-up and wary of similar.

Race 8

Speed from 5,6,9. BEIWACHT looking to go back-to-back and not a lot of pressure around him so he’s clear horse to beat if they sit off him. OLIVEANOTHERDAY was super first-up around this circuit and poor second-up at Flem, back around a bend could improve but given he had a long winter and a short time off he could be on the way down, this is the big test. EXTRAGALACTIC was fortunate to scrape into the field, JMAC aboard, light weight, she has a wicked turn of foot and should’ve won the G1 Goodwood last prep. JIMMYSTAR has blinkers, good trial, d-day for him.

Suggested Bet: BEIWACHT win

Race 9

Keen on BUCCLEUCH if stays at the 1400m which I like for a horse working back from throat surgery, also nominated for Mornington on Saturday, big weight at the mile. Wide draw with the rail is a query but there is a stack on speed on, so with even luck I think he wins. HARRYS YACHT is another likely to sit off the speed and has a good finish, he too needs galloping room as he can do a bit wrong. WAR MACHINE comes right back in class but needs to improve and HOME RULE is tough, will be in it a long way despite the pressure.
