Scott Embry’s Monday Bunbury Preview

Race 1

ANDALADY has gone undefeated at barrier trials leading into her debut. She won a 400m jump out by 4L and a 930m trial by 2L as a 2 year old filly and this time around she has won a 950m trial by 2.5L as a 3 year old. Looks a really natural jump and run type who is suited t to 1000m racing. Will bounce out, will put herself into a spot and will be there for a long way. Has an excitement factor about her. SPLINTABELLE went into her debut first-up, no trial having not been seen publicly since February. Should only improve for the experience and come on fitness wise. MR KAPLAN ran second on debut to Afireofgidgeecoals. That form is always going to look good in a maiden. AURA MAGNA was no match for Royal Reflection last start, but she’s quality.

Race 2

CARTIER GLOW looks like he’s ready to win one. He was nosed out by Champagne Talks last start and now with Tom Wolfe swapping winkers for blinkers and finding another race where he should zip across from a wide alley and park right up on speed, he looks to get his chance. THREE VIRGO’S was sent out a $5.50 chance on debut when beaten over 16L. Immediately tipped out and something was clearly wrong that day. Recent trials were just as good (if not better) than her previous preparation’s so expecting her to go well. MY MARLENA ran well on debut behind Big Red Zoom, didn’t seem to run out 1300m second-up and then held her own last start in a form race that should hold up (Royal Reflection / Aura Magna). BOLD FLYING won a recent 950m trial at Lark Hill and while still looking quite green he covered the ground well.

Race 3

TWISTED TRICKSTER raced on Wednesday at Northam and never got a crack at them at any stage in the home straight. He went to the line effectively untested and if Roy Rogers does elect to back him up 5 days later he’ll have a few admirers. Wasn’t bad in the Mr Mellon race prior to that either so it wasn’t just a flash in the pan and now they call on Pike. PLAY DEL SOL and AGENT REMINGTON ran second and third respectively behind Pistone last start. That’s the obvious form reference race with Pistone going to a Saturday and nearly winning a 60+ Graduation. They’ll both be winning maidens this prep the way they’re going. HAMADRYAD nearly pinched a similar 1400m maiden last start when Tsang went for home from the 500. She dropped them off and then was only run down in the shadows.

Race 4

FOREVER VICTORIOUS had her first start at a staying trip and had to cover a fair bit of extra ground throughout. Thought she did a great job to still be coming on the line and if she had the more economical passage of the winner then think she would have burst through for victory in a similar manner. Again drawn awkwardly but she’s showing versatility and toughness. Knocking on the door. BOUTIQUE BELLE has been a wallet burner. She has started favourite more often than not in her career and last start went under at $1.60. Can win – but not with Australian dollars on her. SAISOKU has a set of blinkers added. He’s trying hard, just wishes it was 4000m with a set of hurdles. MYSTACHEENO is a real grinding one paced type of staying maiden. Needs things to go his way.

Race 5

BONDITRAM was a sensational return to racing. He was 147 days between runs, first-up, no trial and in a high speed, high pressure contested dominated from the top he closed the gap to less than 2L behind speedy pair Wiluna Lass and Star Martini. If he can settle just a pair closer here in what looks a thinner race on paper then he’ll take beating. Looks in for a good prep. LONDON ROSE was ridden for speed and absolutely bolted in. Led and won by 4L and never looked like being beaten. NAILED’EM is up and about before the Albany season so Sammy Faithfull brings him to Bunbury. He won a maiden and placed in a couple of C2s in his first campaign of racing and her team always fly fresh. ARTIE’S ECLIPSE has gone better since they’ve sat her.

Race 6

WARDIKCAR was run down by what could be a smart one first-up in God Be Quick. Grant & Alana Williams are unveiling some seriously impressive young horses at the moment and hopefully for Wardikcar he can get on the board second-up. Liked the trial, solid return, just needs to overcome a tricky alley. LUNARIS was a very high price yearling and punters had a good crack at her on debut. Didn’t jump, didn’t travel. Normally from Peters Investments they’d go to the paddock after a run like that so it’s interesting to see her pressing on. ROCKING IN VEGAS must cause some headaches. He’s got the ability to win a maiden – C1 – C3 but just can’t quite pinch one. Taj Dyson gave him a 10/10 last start too. Cold is best. DYNASTIC LASS was good in her trial and then tried hard first-up. Just a questionable form race.

Race 7

ROYAL REFLECTION should pack too many punches for these. It’s an aggressive step out in distance from 1200m on debut straight into a 1695m so there will be a few people out there happy to risk her (at a likely short quote) but her trial was super and her debut win was authoritative. Trusting Michael Grantham to have made the right call on her distance and worth noting that this was the only race she was even nominated for. BACK IN THE FOLD tried hard on debut on a bottomless heavy track and then won well at his second start. Lacks the brilliance or acceleration of a Royal Reflection but is proven at the trip. SHOW ON THE ROAD should be peaking now and can kick through to lead from the draw. AWESOME FORCE is rock hard fit coming back in trip and can be put into the race.

Race 8

JUST GIFTED is a former Peters Investments mare who is locally trained by Tim Crosby and when she’s on song she’s a pretty hard horse to run down. She won a C3 1200 last prep by 3.4L and her recent trial suggests that she’s ready to skip along out in front and give them all something to run down. Can be a bit all or nothing but if it’s a leader’s day then it’s game on. KANAS MTOTO hasn’t been seen since winning a maiden at Pinjarra in April. Presented first-up, no trial by Summer Dickson whose team continue to enjoy a hot run of form. Big respect. SURROUND ME is always there abouts but the market also keeps her a lot safer than her exposed form would justify. GIRLS ON FIRE didn’t have a lot of room to move first-up but also not convinced she was going that well at the same time.
