Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on July 11, 2024July 11, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben kicks off with a solid looking 2yo affair. I’m with the Ciaron Maher trained GOODLUCKTOME who was solid on debut beating all bar the winner (gap to the rest) before ok on a very heavy track only other start. Freshened up with a trial between that latest run & this one he just might be a bit better than these. INCEPTION is in good hands & should continue to improve whilst SAVOUR THE DREAM & MISS TRUSTFUL both in with winning chances. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: GOODLUCKTOME TO WIN. RACE 2 Going with MUSCHIALLI who needs a drying track, looking for no worse than a soft (5) which should well be the case with fine weather forecast. The key to him is not only dry ground but a good draw as well, big chance he gets both today & the freshen up suits. Big watch on the stablemate BRERETON who joins the Gollan stable, no fresh form keep a close eye on the market. PLUNDERING never far away however struggles to win. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: MUSCHIALLI EACH-WAY (soft (5) or better). RACE 3 INVINCIBLE SHIELD has been running Saturday times his past two midweek wins so no surprise to see him a short priced favourite here. He even sat deep the latest yet was still a mile too good. Gate 1, on speed, just has to be the one to beat. I’m a big wrap for TERMAGANT who is very promising, good win first up has to raise the bar here however confident she can. BOHEMIAN LAD’s last start midweek win was also in Saturday time, must include. Numbers: 6 – 14 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 4 Going with the obvious here in I SEE YOU COMING however I won’t be jumping into a short quote. He did look very unlucky not to win at Ipswich first up however note his winning strike rate isn’t a high one. LIVING FREE resumes with a good first up record, drawn to race up on speed must include. MOUNT FUJI could win one of these races & I wouldn’t be the least surprised, he needs pace on & clear running, should get both here however just needs to stay in touch. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 5 – 14 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 CUNNAMULLA FELLA shapes as though the step up to a mile will suit & I’m with him to handle the rise in class this afternoon. Only lightly raced he was game winning here at a recent midweeker after sitting wide the entire trip from a poor gate, that won’t be the case today. AGIRLSBESTFRIEND had no luck whatsoever last prep down south & both runs this time in have been good, likely gives a big start however will be running home hard. BRASCO is another who will get back, based on his form this prep though he’ll appreciate the additional 250m. Numbers: 8 – 13 – 14 – 12 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Not a great deal of confidence this race where I’ll lean to MAID TO FIT who drops back from Listed grade, note she’s been freshened up (6 weeks) & has been fitted up with a recent trial win. Maps perfectly from gate 1 parking behind a solid speed up front. AMORE VELOCE is racing well & clocked good time winning a recent midweeker here, wide draw suggests she may need luck early on or end up posted? LENNIC is flying, LIQUOR can run a race fresh. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 I’ve been tipping WARBY it seems like ‘forever’ & see no reason to jump ship here. He really never runs a bad race it’s just his get back pattern which causes the problems as he needs plenty to pan out. Here he is again with a wide gate, can he get home over the top of them? Hope so! DEEP RESPECT went around in a couple of Group 3 races before a fast-closing effort the latest when back to a more suitable grade, strikes a suitable race once again. ATMOSPHERE in the mix. Numbers: 10 – 13 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: WARBY EACH-WAY. RACE 8 MADAME ODETTE put the writing on the wall second up at Ipswich running on well from the back of the field. No doubt she’ll again give a start from the wide draw here however down in the weights she’ll be zipping home at the business end. RISING PACIFIC has bypassed the Rocky Cup today (was nominated) to run here instead, include. MISSISSIPPI PRINCE can improve dropping in grade from the good draw, likes to race forward. Numbers: 15 – 13 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet: MADAME ODETTE EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Narrowed this final race down to the two main chances being last start winners BLAKMAX & ATLANTIC OCEAN. I’ll lean to the latter who is super consistent & if not for being held up would have been in the placings all runs this prep. BLAKMAX returned to form last start courtesy of a dry track, can figure again with fine conditions forecast. PIZARRO can improve, BUILLT may take the run here however is one to follow in coming weeks should he stay up here. Numbers: 14 – 9 – 4 – 16 Suggested Bet: ATLANTIC OCEAN/BLACKMAX TO WIN.
