Chris Nelson’s Rosehill Preview Posted on January 11, 2024January 11, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Opening race looks very suitable for JUMEIRAH BEACH who will appreciate dropping back in distance from the 1820m at Eagle Farm last start. Given every possible he just didn’t finish off the final 200m, drawn the pole here he’ll settle on speed & prove tough to get by at the business end. GELATIN has returned in good order having won both starts, this is a tougher assignment however he’s only a 3yo & has plenty of scope for improvement. POSEIDON RULER was solid behind a smart one two back, will appreciate the weight drop. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet: JUMEIRAH BEACH to win (small bet). RACE 2 Looking forward to this Highway where the debutante winner I’M A STEEL creates plenty of interest. She looked the goods winning a Goulburn trial before turning up at Nowra being heavily backed on heavy ground & bolting in. Her overall time & closing sectionals were the best of the meeting & here she is sent straight to town. LIFE’S A PARTY the hardest to beat, only blemish this prep did come at this track however efforts either side well up to this. TAI LUNG won at Nowra the same day as I’M A STEEL, will appreciate the 6kg weight drop. Numbers: 11 – 7 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: I’M A STEEL TO WIN (small bet) RACE 3 Should PENTHOUSE not be a market drifter I’m in her corner here. Just the 3 starts last prep for a strong win fresh at this level before running well in Listed company at Scone behind the smart Red Card. She’s bolted in a lead up Canberra trial & although probably better on wet ground she’s still good enough to win this on a dry surface against this limited opposition. BLOW DART’s two runs this prep have been good, awkward gate again however with luck looks the main threat. ACOTANGO a place chance. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet: PENTHOUSE TO WIN RACE 4 Plenty of in-form horses going around in this race. I’ll lean to the Highway form & put GALLANT STAR on top, he’s yet to miss a placing at his 7 career starts & that includes 3 wins. One of those victories was at his latest outing when zooming down the outside to score at Randwick over 1200m. Based on that the 1300m trip won’t prove an issue & the inside draw should have him closer in the run. FIRE TRIBE also hit the line strongly to win last start, another to draw well & likely appreciate the 1300m. INFANCY & KING OF DUBI definitely in the major chances. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 11 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Should the Maher/Eustace trained MRS CHRISSIE bring her Melbourne first up form to this race then she’s going to prove awfully hard to beat. She found the front & dashed away down the straight to win very impressively. If there’s a concern it’s her second up record, she’s yet to fill a placing at 3 attempts. BUBBA’S BAY does have a strong second-up record, in fact she’s unbeaten, must include. KITTY CHAT isn’t hopeless however will need her fair share of luck from the wide gate. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 ARISTONOUS & LOUISVILLE the two for me in this race & I’ll be making sure each is a winning result. Going to stick with LOUISVILLE who simply gave away too much start at his latest run, he drew wide so was always going to get back however he ended up in an unwinnable position before running on late & still managing to beat all bar the winner. Gate one this time & 200m further surely he gets his chance. Super keen on ARISTONOUS last start when thrashed as favourite, surely had issues can bounce back. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: LOUSVILLE TO WIN/Saver ARISTONOUS. RACE 7 NAVAL COLLEGE put in a good run first up without threatening & I was of the opinion he may just need one more outing before hitting his straps. Well, that wasn’t to be as he managed to secure a perfect trip second up & score suggesting he’s going to be even harder to beat this time. LUNCIES brings the stronger form lines however gives away plenty of weight to NAVAL COLLEGE (6.5kg). TOURISTIC continues to race well & won’t be far away once again, a win doesn’t look to be far off. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet: NAVAL COLLEGE TO WIN. RACE 8 Difficult race. Keep coming back to the resuming UCALLEDIT however I’ll be guided by the market moves. He wasn’t far away first-up last prep in decent grade before sound in a Group race, he then went onto land successive Listed races. 3 lead-up trials suggest he might be further forward than expected? D-day for ZOU TIGER, he’s been competitive in much stronger races however when dropping back in class doesn’t win, he’ll roll forward here & likely have every chance. KA BLING in the mix however he’s not on his own there. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 BOSTON ROCKS & UNION ARMY ran 1st & 3rd in a race run at Randwick mid-December, both were resuming, both ran well. The latter sat up closer to the speed whilst UNION ARMY made up good ground from the back. Throw the resuming Godolphin galloper PEREILLE in the mix as well & you’ve got three solid winning chances. I could go either way however will be guided by market leads. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 11 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics. RACE 10 Looks to be the right race for the very consistent TESTATOR SIRENS who will be lining up for his fourth run this prep. He’s been strong to the line his past couple & from gate one should land a spot close enough to strike in the straight. ELUSIVE JEWEL has a good second up record & can improve with the first up run under her belt. STARMAN not without a chance, both runs this prep have been sound. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet: TESTATOR SIRENS TO WIN. Market Market
