Scott Embry’s Saturday Carnarvon Preview Posted on September 10, 2026September 10, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 FRIES WITH THAT has been a wonderful old dirt campaigner over many seasons, in many different areas, for a few different stables. Ray Malpass has done a great job with him this preparation and with Tash Faithfull jumping aboard last start he duly saluted. The form didn’t exactly breath fire at Junction last week in the Cup but he should still be right place, right time. ANOTHER NEWPHEW is the class runner on his way home from the upper NW. He won a 56+ mile at Port Hedland under 60kg three back before going to the Broome Cup and the Newman Cup. Back to 1700 a positive too with a horse who maybe doesn’t quite stay? AWESOME LILLY – won, beaten 13.6, ran second, beaten 7.4. Hit or miss. BIG SHOTS is a query at the trip. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – FRIES WITH THAT WIN Race 2 CRUISE TO VICTORY has 65kg before the 3kg claim for Tiana Murray. He was a revelation in Broome winning four races in the campaign and bolting in on occasion. He went around on the second line of betting in the Broome Sprint and tried to go toe to toe with Now You See Me who was simply too brilliant and blew him up. This is a very winnable race for him, even with the weight. FIRE THE GUARD has only 53.5kg on his back so it creates a great level of intrigue with the wide spread in the weights. Must jump cleanly to avoid a face full of kick back. GALAXY AFFAIR similarly to Cruise To Victory has a huge weight impost but he’s loved dirt life for Timo Pike. RED REBEL has to overcome being 1700 back to 1200. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – CRUISE TO VICTORY WIN Race 3 COSTA STAR feels like a risky tip being 1/32 but she’s racing in career best form recently and tried really hard last week at Junction when beaten by Swishgobango. From the draw Giaan O’Donnell should have her right up in the firing line and the way she’s going she’ll be right in the finish. Just wouldn’t want to be taking anything too short. MAGIC CARATS broke his maiden over 1000 beating Tango Rhythm who has gone on to win her next three. Since then he went to a 1600 and a 1400. Maybe he’s tricked them all and he’s more a sprinting type? We’ll find out here back in distance. HOT NOVA ran well last week at Junction and two prior was good behind Tango Rhythm. COUPE DEBURJ deserved that maiden win last week. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet – COSTA STAR WIN Race 4 KIMBERLEY CURRENCY was scratched last week out of the Junction Sprint and now finds another suitable race 7 days later at his home track. After winning a 56+ 1000 he won a 56+ 1200 and then has placed to Simply Rosso and placed to Solar System. He’s racing with great consistency, he’s handling dirt racing far better than grass racing and the Cliff Howe team is enjoying a good time of it recently. Think he’s a better 1000m horse than a 1200m horse so this race profiles really well for him. SHOOTING KONTIKI gives 110% and has a rare senior rider engagement. The booking of Tash Faithfull is huge and he should actually get across from his wide draw into a handy spot. Big respect. MARS MISSION was backed into favourite last week at Junction but never travelled at any stage. Bitterly disappointing (again). COONDLE has had a long prep but gets weight relief. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – KIMBERLEY CURRENCY WIN Race 5 KINGS SICARIO is just going from strength to strength. After winning the Kimberley Cup he went on to win the Broome Cup and now even rising 4.5kg to 58.5kg looks the horse to beat in the 2026 Carnarvon Cup. The horses travelling down from Broome usually run really well in this race and expect him to hold up that record. ZADAR ROCK just thrives on dirt racing. Won the Roebourne Cup, second in the Port Hedland Cup, third in the Broome Cup and now heads south to contest a Carnarvon Cup. He will have to lump 62.5kg from near last but he’s capable. DYNAMIC ONE was too good for them in the Newman Cup and might take the opportunity to kick up and lead this event to stay out of the kick back. CANDLELIGHT SHERIF had been screaming out for ground and finally got it in the Junction Cup. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – KINGS SICARIO WIN Race 6 TANGO RHYTHM has been a great find by Peter Daly. Since arriving in Carnarvon she’s had four starts for 3 wins and a narrow second and her last start win over Western Impact was the most impressive of them. Best part about her is that she travels through the dirt in the middle stages and that gives Madi Derrick the opportunity to ride a race. SOLAR SYSTEM hadn’t won a race for 1084 days going into the Broome run two back where they changed things up, stepped him to a mile and rode him for speed – D.Pateman, 3 votes. He then travelled down to Carnarvon had to go from 1600 back to 1200 and deadheat with IRONCLAD BOY who has been in form all season. There’s a 3kg weight swing against him with the addition of Tiana Murray to Solar System but he’s running for Giaan O’Donnell. WESTERN IMPACT is racing well. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – TANGO RHYTHM WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,4,10 1,2 1,2,3,6 1,3,5,6 Market Market
