The Scout: Turkey vs Italy

The opening match of Euro 2020 sees Turkey taking on host nation, Italy. The pair will make up half of Group A, alongside Switzerland and Wales, with the Italians a clear favourite ($1.40*) to finish on top.

Italy are in a seriously rich vein of form. They’ve not tasted defeat in 27 matches, dating back to 2018 – a massive turnaround considering they failed to qualify for the World Cup that same year. Under Roberto Mancini, they’ve been a defensive juggernaut and have kept clean sheets in their last six fixtures.

Turkey have had a promising lead-up to this tournament, claiming wins over Moldova (2-0), Azerbaijan (2-1) as well as a goalless draw against Guinea. Needless to say Italy are a completely different proposition, with the Azzurri experts at maintaining possession and stifling any opposition attempts on goal.
