Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on October 22, 2024October 22, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LUCKY I AM is a jump and run filly who should have no troubles finding the fence over the 1000. She ran third on debut behind Street Band before running into West Star and Ron’s Finalflutter and heading to the paddock. She’s quick and should give a sight at an eachway price. MAGNIQUE was the ‘be on me next start’ run on debut and if she can overcome a tricky draw then she’ll be hard to hold out. RISE TO GLORY was strong winning the same race and can go on with it now. CATCH CARTER has shades on first time and a barrier to work with. Numbers: 10 – 12 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – LUCKY I AM EACHWAY RACE 2 AL UNIQUE comes through a race behind Rosie Can Run / Stryker’s Gal / Yuwill Be The One where the leading brigade broke the field open at the 600 and those back in the field lost touch with them. Thought Al Unique got to the line really well from an impossible position in running and 7 days later steps out to the staying trip and draws a much better gate. AH KUM was only run down late by a progressive staying type in True Player. He can control and dictate again. CHOICE THINKING is through the same race and was winding up late. NEAP TIDE looks a real one paced staying type. Numbers: 9 – 10 – 6 – 15 Suggested Bet – AL UNIQUE EACHWAY RACE 3 EARTHSTORM drops into a maiden for the first time in her life and it’s impossible to tip against her. She’s dropping 1kg into a maiden after finishing 2L off Cosmic Crusader, Keep Attacking, Brave Strike, Miss Flirtacious, Wubin Gold, Esprit Garcon, Sentimental Belle, Deamber and Chollima, beating home Eliteone and Madam Kisses. She should be too good. THE AGENCY and TACTICS are fellow 3 year olds and the two dangers on paper. Both should settle in front of her and can definitely make a contest of this. Respect both. NICKELPLAY may want a touch further. Numbers: 13 – 5 – 6 – 14 Suggested Bet – EARTHSTORM WIN RACE 4 HEAVY METAL lost the rider first-up, ran third behind subsequent winner Divine Impact second-up and then loomed before fading out late third-up behind impressive debut winner Yorga Pride. Drops 4.5kg down to 54 taking on the older horses in an all age maiden and that’s been a recipe for success over the last 2 months. Most suitable race yet. SIX SHOOTER sat three and four deep the trip on debut and never gave it away. He was arguably a better run than Heavy Metal, but does concede her 2.5kg from that encounter. ADROIT has caught the eye at trials recently. NONESOSASSY is speedy. Numbers: 11 – 6 – 1 – 13 Suggested Bet – HEAVY METAL EACHWAY RACE 5 SMART SHADOW’s only win was leading over 1600m on the 7-day back-up. Looks the same set up for her here after running into some very talented 3 year olds including Flower Of Gold and Across Generations last week at Ascot. On paper Victoria Corver should cross to the top without doing much work and from there she’s afforded every chance. SNIPPY SEAN backs up off 7 days from a C3 back into a C1 and is racing consistently well. PETITE VITESSE will cut all the corners and broke her maiden well. KING KAWANA was a different horse for a new trainer. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – SMART SHADOW EACHWAY RACE 6 CANDLELIGHT SHERIF trialled super over 950m first-up and then into all sorts of traffic first-up over an unsuitable distance which both suggested he might be in for a good prep. Loved his run last start behind Red Dwarf at Bunbury and love the fact that CJP sticks. This is his most winnable race this campaign. BEANIE broke a long, long run of outs at York and finds another weak race to suit. MIRRORSCHINO ran second behind him in the same event and can easily turn the tables. LEAD BYEXAMPLE is well weighted after the claim but at the same time very few WA staying races are won by apprentice riders. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – CANDLELIGHT SHERIF EACHWAY RACE 7 CRUISE TO RIO put the writing on the wall at her return to racing when charging home into third behind Storyville and Hez Got The Safe. Happy to follow that form through and while I would probably prefer if this was 1400m she should be able to hold a spot from the barrier. SOLAR SYSTEM went around at the same meeting when flooding home into third behind Richanco who nearly won a 60+ Graduation on Saturday. FLAGSHIP and MAI ALOHA are both far more talented than your usual York Maiden Handicap winners and are more than capable of elevating to bigger and better things than a midweek C1. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – CRUISE TO RIO EACHWAY RACE 8 CLOSE TALKER can use the barrier to take full advantage of the lack of top end speed and pressure in this C3 1000. Expecting that Holly Watson finds herself in front in this event and from there she should be hard to run down. Has been beaten twice by Wicked Venom but leading against the fence over 1000 at Belmont is position A and that gives her a chance to turn the tables. WICKED VENOM has weight and a wide draw but can unleash with a big turn of foot for this grade. SHOW THE WAY is extremely well placed taking on the older horses. Soft trials and maps to get a nice run. DEFINE BEAUTIFUL has sensational race form. The trial left a bit to be desired. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet – CLOSE TALKER EACHWAY Market Market
