Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on December 5, 2023December 5, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HOSTILE TALK has looked the goods in both trials leading into his race day debut. Sat rearward and worked through his gears nicely late in his first 950m trial and then was allowed to stride and dominated from the top in the second trial. Can take up a nice position from the ideal draw and make his presence felt. MARCHING is having his first start in WA and was extremely quick at Belmont trials. He’s failed at two from three but they were both heavily rain affected surfaces. Looks a different animal on top of the ground. TORPEDOMAN has been costly to punters but has again trialled super for his return. CANNY ROCK ran into Esprit Garcon at Northam. No shame in running second to him. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – HOSTILE TALK WIN RACE 2 EMPRESS OF INDIA looks really well placed by Dion Luciani. First-up last campaign she probably should have beaten Rupert’s Empire in a 3 year old 0MWLY and then ran third off a 6 week freshen with 59.5kg this track/distance/grade behind Desert Nymph before finishing fourth behind the likes of Little Strawberry, Cut The Talk, Valency, Berebere and Celebrity Prince. Super form for a C1. SNIPPENOVA comes through the red hot Stormchaser/Bayzid race where they ran sizzling time. Good use of the claim. CRYSTALIST was sound at his return. He’ll be winning more races. ZING TO WIN is drawn really awkwardly but three deep at Belmont is forgiving. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – EMPRESS OF INDIA WIN RACE 3 LOST CITY looks really sharp. She went to the races when heavily supported late in betting and came away to defeat impressive subsequent winner Bonny Rock by almost 1.5L on the line. They went nearly 5L faster than maiden average and she was the one responsible for that really strong tempo throughout. Looks to have gears. This is a much deeper race and she has an extra 3kg but expect she’ll make her way through the grades. SIBERIAN SIREN ran into Wubin Gold on debut and beat home Snippy Witch, Lord Lala and Stormchaser. Won’t be a maiden long at all. ROCKET JUICE looks like he’ll be much better with something to chase. Seems to get lost in front. ALASKAN didn’t appreciate being leader’s back at Ascot when climbing over them. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – LOST CITY WIN RACE 4 IMA WILD GIRL should have finished closer to the winner on Melbourne Cup Day and either side of that has finished 3L off WA Guineas winner and Northerly Stakes second favourite Zipaway and tackled Keshi Boom/Generosity in the Champion Filles. Nice race for her if she can find three deep cover. NEW MUSIC should just land right place right time in this moderate C1 mile. Covered plenty of ground last start at Bunbury which is a track that so far has been extremely hard to make any ground on. THE RUSH took the step from a maiden into a C1 and went close to winning when bursting through late. ROCK DEE JAY next best. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – IMA WILD GIRL EACHWAY RACE 5 MANHATTAN STRIP went into a 66+ 1400 last start in a race that contained Yonga Lass, Demolish, Count The Sessions and San Fabrizio who have all run well since. He was held up for the entire length of the straight behind a tiring leader and never got out at any stage. MATERIAL WITNESS lead throughout over 1400m two start back to beat subsequent Alcoa Cup winner Hesket and then he sat three deep the trip outside the leaders at Geraldton in a race where they were marching from the get-go. SECRET ATTRACTION worked her way to the line encouragingly first-up at Bunbury and now second-up gets out to a more suitable mile. MONEY FOR OLD ROPE gets a senior and some weight relief. Stable going super. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet – MANHATTAN STRIP WIN RACE 6 YALLINGUP GIRL, PRO LATTE, CHANTEL and LA DETTE looks the four and they’ve all drawn gates to get the runs they need. Chantel likely leads, Yallingup Girl likely box seats, Pro Latte lands 1×1 and La Dette will look for three deep cover so she can work into the race and unleash late. PRO LATTE has trialled really well under a Junior Rider and has always promised to put a few races together. YALLINGUP GIRL showed enough in her initial preparation to suggest she can go on with it. CHANTEL showed at trials there isn’t that much between them (except for in the market where there’s a huge price discrepancy). LA DETTE just needs to find the right back to follow into the race. Her L200 was excellent last start. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – CHANTEL EACHWAY RACE 7 NOD AND SMILE is a real X-Factor runner in the last. He won a 1600m maiden on a Soft7 track by 8.6L and then was backed as if unbeatable in a 60+ Graduation at his next outing over 1800m when going down narrowly to Mahaleo. Summer Dickson can produce them first-up and William Pike taking the ride is an indicator of expectation. Excited to see him back at the races. BIRKETT BOY hasn’t done much racing and if you judge him on his most recent 950m Lark Hill trial beating Snippy Which he’ll take holding out. REGINALD was a super WA debut at massive odds. I’M EUGENE an improver at odds for those playing wider novelties. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 10 – 14 Suggested Bet – NOD AND SMILE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 4,8,9 1,2,3,10,11 4,5,8,9 3,5 Market Market
