Michael Heaton’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on June 12, 2026June 12, 2026 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 GRACEFUL LASS showed enough in her 2 starts last year to be winning races and her first start for Peter Fernie last week was very good. She drew wide, got back and rocketed home in all the fastest closing sectionals to give the impression the step to a mile here will suit – just needs some luck from the inside gate. SOPHISTRY joins Peter Fernie’s yard and is a month between runs with pads going on but both her efforts this preparation are good enough for this. MAD SPITFIRE will roll forward to ride the speed and has placed at 5 of his past 6 starts. SAINTY CULLITY is simply his own worst enemy and he’s now an 18-start maiden but his first-up run last week was much better than reads on paper. Numbers: 5-6-2-1 Suggested Bet – GRACEFUL LASS WIN RACE 2 QUEEN SELYSE resumed with a solid fourth over 1300m when having her first start for Phil Naylor last week where she crossed from the outside gate to give cheek at a price. Her Perth formlines over the past 6 months are decent for this company and she should be strong at the back end of this race dropping back 100m in distance. LOVESEXY set a good tempo in front at her WA debut last week before getting overrun over the final stages. She now steps to 1200m 7 days later and looks a speedy filly who can create her own luck and she shouldn’t be a maiden for long. ACOUTSTIC BUBBLES has hit the line well at her 2 starts for David Smith and is knocking on the door. HIDDEN JEWELS a watch at his first start for Luke Fernie’s yard. Numbers: 2-5-3-1 Suggested Bet – QUEEN SELYSE WIN RACE 3 CALL ME FROSTY returned with a bang first up when producing a really sharp maiden win at this track/distance. He led and bolted in by more than 4L in good time, with his maiden win more than 6L faster than the C2 and 2L faster than the 58+ over the same distance on the same day. He looks the leader and one to beat again. I’M GENEVIEVE had always shown plenty of ability early doors and was back near her best last start when unleashing a powerful finish to win in this grade. SLIPPERY FISH was plain in the same race but had to do a bit of work through the early stages and won well at her previous start. COULDABEENAHANDBAG continues to race well at big prices. Numbers: 1-3-2-5 Suggested Bet – CALL ME FROSTY WIN RACE 4 DREAMERS NEVER DIE raced too fiercely when a beaten favourite in a steadily-run 1300m event last start and looks better suited back to 1100m from a soft draw. His first-up run when third to Stylin’ was good and he should be able to stalk Lavish’s Charm every move here. LAVISH CHARM won 4 in a line across 2 preparations before an uncharacteristically plain effort as a beaten favourite last start. He’s been freshened 5 weeks between runs, looks the likely leader and can bounce back. HIGH PRECISION is flying but the drop to 1100m could be a bit too sharp for her this far into a campaign? DUBLIN RED was luckless at big odds last start and now drops back in grade. Numbers: 2-1-4-7 Suggested Bet – DREAMERS NEVER DIE WIN RACE 5 Great race with plenty of speed. CLOSE AT HAND was an enormous winner second up when off the track the entire in a fast-run race and still reeling off the fastest last 600m of the meeting to win with 61kg. He’s much better suited stepping up to 1300m here and gets in with the same weight after the claim. DON’T WAIT FOR LUCK won with the handbrake on at this track/grade/distance 2 starts ago then didn’t get much luck in the WA Day Cup last time out. He’s now back in distance and can bounce back. PLAYING GAMES brings strong formlines and should be a handy acquisition for Peter Fernie. PRAWNS ELEVEN won impressively last week but now rises to 63kg in a race with more speed. Numbers: 2-3-8-1 Suggested Bet – CLOSE AT HAND WIN RACE 6 SCOTTISH LAIRD looks ready to win. 2 starts ago he had a chequered passage in the straight and ran a nose second in this grade, last start he was again held up on straightening then flew late to run a fast-finishing third in a 70+ and he’s now back in grade off 7 days. He typically backs up well and maps to be in a striking position. MILITARY ACTION is absolutely humming. He gets a mammoth 7kg swing on Monty Zoomer for a luckless fourth to him 2 starts back and a 5kg swing for finishing just over a length second to him at this track/grade/distance last start when posted 3-deep the trip. MONTY ZOOMER has won his last 3 starts in this grade and whilst he’s 1760m down to 1400m, he should lead and be hard to run down again. LADY NEGRONI has raced very well the last 2 times she’s gone to Kalgoorlie. Numbers: 2-4-1-3 Suggested Bet – SCOTTISH LAIRD WIN RACE 7 WHATYOUTALKINBOUT won well at this track/grade/distance last start and only rises 0.5kg. He’s drawn awkwardly but he drew wide last start and was able to do work early before eventually getting to the breeze and proving too good for them and this race maps similarly. SHOOT TO FAME was luckless at Kalgoorlie 2 starts ago and will find this much easier than her last start where she was only 4L off Poblano and Zourun Run at Belmont. SPANGLEDSTAR is a model of consistency and has a strong turn of foot but she’ll likely settle near-last from the draw. MILLY’S CLEVER TOO was a big run without luck at odds first up, no trial at this track/grade/distance. Numbers: 2-8-1-5 Suggested Bet – WHATYOUTALKINBOUT WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2 1,2,3,5,8,9 1,2,4 1,2,4,5,8 Market Market
