Scott Embry’s Thursday Albany Preview Posted on December 5, 2023December 5, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SOLDIER’S CAMP heads down to Albany and should find this a bit easier than recent outings when finishing less than 2L off Ima Single Gal and Playball and 2L off Rocking The Casbah. Even first-up finished only 2.5L off Shooting Spirit and subsequent winners Our Nemesis and New Music. Just hope he doesn’t get too far out of his ground from the wide draw. MAKES THE CUT went well first-up and has a barrier where Kyra Yuill can put him in a spot. PRIVATE SAPLING joins the yard of Brendon Fitz-gerald and he can really run when they allow him. Should be a good country type. SAFE RAPPA was plunged last Thursday but couldn’t hold out the drifting stablemate. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – SOLDIER’S CAMP WIN RACE 2 AVOIDANCE was too quick for them first-up and then was extremely plain second-up. Looks a great race for Brayden Gaerth and Avoidance to jump straight to the front and control the tempo and from there he’s the one that they will all have to run down. Forgiving for one below par performance. GINGER GREEN backs up off 7 days and drops half a kilo. He never gave it away in the chase last week. EX SPORT MAN has been better than Albany racing his entire career. Finally at a point where they can run him in these c70+ races and they should have some fun with him this campaign. BLUE LINE next best. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – AVOIDANCE WIN RACE 3 THE ROAN RANGER (yes, I can’t believe I’m doing it) looks to have found his race. First-up he finished 2.4L off Ecstasy of Gold (subsequent winner) in a C1 1690 and then he went straight to 2000 when finishing 2.75L off God’s Garden (since run well in a 66+). Finds a country C1 over 1934m and if Holly Watson can get him to jump out and go straight he should be going close in this. 1 from 39 = brave. YES OF COURSE looks ready to roll to the top and control one of these affairs. Backs up off 7 days and has a couple of minor gear changes. Hard to get past. MORTICIA is lightly raced and can stay. VELVET ROOM ready now fourth up. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – THE ROAN RANGER WIN RACE 4 DUCHEES DEMERIT is another one of Paul Roberts’ gallopers who looks suited by travelling down to Albany for a Thursday meeting. Two starts ago in a C5 ran into Desennae and Yonga Lass at Bunbury. Last start ran into Desennae again and covered plenty of extra ground in a 66+. Drops back into a c58+ and was a 2L winner of a 58+ 1850 at Barker fourth-up last preparation. Looks ready. HOIST THE COLOURS is always a tough nut to crack, especially in this grade over this distance. PLAY WITH DESIRE won a maiden and then was fair in a fast run C1 last start. DIVINE MERCY continues to attack the line but can be a bit one paced. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – DUCHEES DEMERIT WIN RACE 5 LADY GONDO trialled well leading into her debut when second behind Final Siren (subsequent winner) and then beat one of her main dangers in Song Story to break her maiden 18 days ago. Even meets Song Story half a kilo better for beating him home. SONG STORY finished second to Lady Gondo beaten a length two starts ago and then last week looked to really just bully Playing Rio out of a win. Looked gone from the 600 but kept finding under vigorous riding and was simply too tough for Playing Rio who lay down over the last 100. FIRST CONTACT won well last start at Geraldton and this is no deeper. SIMPLY ROSSO an improver with shades. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – LADY GONDO WIN RACE 6 ZAC LUVS TO FLY and RUSSIAN SNIPER are both impressive last start winners. Siding up with ZAC LUVS TO FLY who drops 1kg and can kick through from barrier 1 to lead this field. He’s as honest and consistent as they come and once he finds form he holds it brilliantly. Always there abouts. RUSSIAN SNIPER has always promised to put a few wins together and his last two victories at Geraldton have been strong. MILLIVOY found Oxbridge too quick last week. Everything in this field would be in the same position though. LUCKY LANDING backs up and can hold a position from the inside. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – ZAC LUVS TO FLY WIN RACE 7 NOVATORIO was an alarming drifter at Narrogin ($4.8 to $13) but defied the remarkable stance against her to record an effortless maiden win by over 1L. Don’t think there are any standouts in this C2 and from the draw she should get all the favours. Lightly raced and looks to have some ability. DIAMOND ROCKS had her first start for Mitch Pateman and went well into fourth. If she can cross them it’s very much game on. HEARTFORD HOUSE was bitterly disappointing last start. Narrogin is a different kettle of fish to York. IMPOSING BROOK should be winning races in this grade. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – NOVATORIO WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,5,6 3,5,7 3,4,8,9 2,4,5,7,8 Market Market
