Scott Embry’s Sunday Roebourne Preview Posted on June 9, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 KING OF PLANETS was back to his best last start at Carnarvon. Austin Galati is riding as well as anyone in the State at the moment and now that King of Planets has recaptured some form Kevin Mahoney should have lots of fun with him. He reached a peak rating of c72 in August 2021 and got right back down to c62. Looking to notch a preparation to preparation hat-trick. ZEEWIJK makes his way up to Roebourne for the opening meeting and joins Cathy Godden’s team. He hasn’t fired a solitary shot at Carnarvon after an impressive trial at Geraldton. Keep safe back to his ‘home ground’. GRATED COCONUT gives plenty of cheek. GREY MISTRESS is finding her feet. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – KING OF PLANETS WIN RACE 2 MAGIC OF ZEUS heads to Roebourne with Kevin Mahoney’s team and considering he was an impressive 1.5L victor over 1600m in a 56+ at Esperance back in February he should more than measure up here. Always a test at your first outing on the dirt (did actually finish second at Collie) but Roebourne is actually quite forgiving in the sense that you don’t need to lead to win. Good starting point for him. WELD is the proven dirt commodity. Hasn’t quite been at the same level in two runs back this campaign but Kyra Yuill sticks and he’ll go well. WHIM CREEK has no weight after the ZJP claim and ran alright at Port Hedland at their opening meeting. SEEL THE DEEL has shades going back on. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – MAGIC OF ZEUS WIN RACE 3 DAWN RETREAT had his first start in WA for Ball Racing and finished third behind Rommel’s Return (subsequent winner over Amber Highway). That looks the obvious form reference and he was held up momentarily on straightening which probably makes a bigger difference on the dirt than the grass. Nice race for him. TIME OF OUR LIVES is quick and will look to carve across from the outside to lead. Troy Turner looking for a holiday winner. Watch the market. THE REVENGE comes through a race behind Set The Scene which was run 8L faster than average. Beaten a margin but respect the time form. GINGER CHARM ran well down the straight at Pinjarra at her last outing in December. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – DAWN RETREAT WIN RACE 4 SPECIAL VIRTUE has her firsts tart on the dirt. She showed a lot of speed when winning an Esperance maiden from the breeze over 1600m and now tackles this almost 4 months between runs fresh at 1400. This is as thin a C1 as you’ll see all season so she gets a great chance to make a winning dirt debut. TOP POCKET is 1 from 27 but more importantly has finished second at all three outings at Roebourne. Horses for courses. TOWNERS FLYER is yet to show the same speed as he did when winning at Dongara on Easter Saturday. LEADER BIAS races Friday at Carnarvon. Would be a massive effort to travel ~650km and back-up two days later. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – SPECIAL VIRTUE WIN RACE 5 KELLY’S LASSIE won a C1 at Port Hedland at her first start on the dirt for new trainer Nadia Bishop. Then went to a 56+ 1400 when finishing fourth only 2L off Rommel’s Return and Amber Highway. Drops back into a 50+, drops back to 1205m and looks one of the main players. Troy Turner on with 60kg rather than claiming catches the attention. SEA WAIF joins Kevin Mahoney and gets the services of Austin Galati. Jump and run mare who can skip along to her own beat. Big respect. SHY BOY was only 1.5L behind Captain Sharmane at Pinjarra on Boxing Day and is 1 from 1 at Roebourne. Another big chance. GINGER KNIGHT is better than what he produced at Port Hedland. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – KELLY’S LASSIE WIN RACE 6 CALLING CARD returns to Roebourne where he has had four starts and finished in the money at each and every one of them. He’s 2 from 2 over the Roebourne mile and ran well first-up at Carnarvon when second to The Crown Prince. Only peaked on his run late and should take great improvement from that outing. CROSSARO actually ran really well over 1200m first-up. Much better suited at the mile. MIDNIGHT BLACK caught the eye behind Al Magico first-up. LAUTRE is another racing Friday at Carnarvon who may be backing up 48 hours later after a 650km float trip?! Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – CALLING CARD WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,3,6 2,5 1,3,4 1,2,3,5,6 Market Market
