Scott Embry’s Sunday Mount Barker Preview Posted on January 26, 2024January 26, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HOOCHIE GUCCI was scratched from Friday at Bunbury to save for Sunday at Mt Barker and that’s a lead worth following. Recent 950m trial win was strong at Lark Hill and from barrier 2 he can stalk the likely leader Zenique’s every move. Between Zenique and Shooting Kontiki they’ll get along at a strong tempo and Chris Parnham and HOOCHI GUCCI should be poised and ready to pounce. ZENQIUE comes through some strong form races. He’s yet to fire at his best this campaign but when Mitch Pateman takes a team to Barker they rarely leave without a winner. SHOOTING KONTIKI was good last start in defeat. MOVING ON put in a big run fresh. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – HOOCHIE GUCCI WIN RACE 2 MY BABY BLUE JEAN should prove hard to run down. She’s a 1000m mare who resumed over 1116m and was run down easily but by The Lady Is A Vamp (subsequent winner), The Great Hoya (unsuccessfully plunged at Bunbury) and Prince Amongst Men who has been racing consistently well. Went to a C5 down the straight and wasn’t at her best, but now drops into a 58+ 1000 at Barker and can lead. Big improver. REQUISITION was scratched from a very winnable race at Narrogin last week to instead run in a relatively deep Westspeed Platinum at Ascot. He’s going well but concedes them a head start. RUSSIAN SNIPER has been a bit hit and miss this preparation but is dangerous from barrier 1. DOES HE KNOW is racing ell for Samantha Shirley. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – MY BABY BLUE JEAN WIN RACE 3 ON A WINNING DAY has blinkers on after looming into her races first-up and second-up. Last time out was the only horse in the race to make ground down the centre and with Papavero Princess coming out of that race and going huge at Belmont on Wednesday happy to follow through with On A Winning Day. Nice race for her. VERRY TIMELY didn’t look suited leading on debut and then was sound in defeat second-up. Also has shades on. PUNTERS PILOT was backed heavily last start and rolled forward to the top over 1500m. He faded back late to finish 2L off the winner, but in review he did have to work for a fair chunk of that race to find his position. Back to 1200 a query? CLEVER COMBAT might want further? Numbers: 7 – 12 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – ON A WINNING DAY WIN RACE 4 HOT CHATTER won a C2 three starts back at Albany beating Odinaka (subsequent Saturday winner at Ascot), two starts back was nabbed on the post by Vonsnip (subsequent winner) beating home Star In Time (subsequent winner). Last start went to a 58+ and was in a three way photo with Morgs Freeman and Rocapozzene. Back to a C2 is excellent placement, it’s just barrier 9 that looks tricky for Madi Derrick. ROCKARIA was backed with confidence last start and the punters were close to collecting. The mare who beat her is better than C2 company (Cocoon Bay). DODGE ‘EM is a jump and run type who might be suited to a claiming apprentice. OUR GIRL BORAM has been racing well since returning. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – HOT CHATTER WIN RACE 5 JOLLY ODD is 2 from 60. That’s the kind of race this is – however, she’s going really well for Bronwyn Mathieson and she can roll straight to the top here and control the race. Jason Whiting rides Barker well and she’ll get rolling from the 600 and will try to out stay them. Not the worst in a wide open race. THE ROAN RANGER is one of the hardest horses in WA to catch. He was able to win a second race at start number 40 when he bolted in by 4.8L. He was flat at his next outing stepping into 58+ company beaten over 5.5L. Back to a C2 attracts the interest but he’s a difficult creature. HANS CHRISTIAN took a big step from a maiden into a C2 last start and went close. FAR TOO STRONG should be peaking now. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – JOLLY ODD WIN RACE 6 ULTIMATE STYLE looks really hard to beat in this. Went around in a C5 at Bunbury last start and finished within a head of Call Again and Awesome Chatter. Drawn to get the perfect run in transit and should be ready to run out a strong 1850m. Looks an ideal opportunity for him to win again. Great placement. BENTLEY BEAU showed last start that he’s not far away from returning to somewhere near his best form and that would see him very competitive in this. DUCHEES DEMERIT is drawn to get a soft run and is working home nicely. SOWAR is pretty classy for a c64+. Improver. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – ULTIMATE STYLE WIN RACE 7 SUPERSESSION was huge in the Fitzpatrick. Watching the replay it’s still hard to believe with 100m to go that he somehow gets up and wins that race. His last furlong was off the charts and he was screaming out for 1300m. He’s the one they’ll need to beat again. RESONATOR swept clear on straightening in the same race was just gunned down over the final few strides by an in form Beau Zoom and a highly impressive Supersession. Should only be fitter second-up. DUCHESS OF GOSSIP brings alternate form into this and she gets some important weight relief. KOHLI is better than his last start performance. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – SUPERSESSION WIN RACE 8 MORGS FREEMAN (and the whole Alan Smith / Stephen Sheehy teams) are flying. Put the writing on the wall first-up at Barker and then was a big win in a 58+ at Albany second-up. He’s a proven weight carrier, he’s proven at this level (and higher), he’s proven at Barker and he’s drawn to get the run he needs. See no reason why he can’t win again? EXCELTRAIN has been a length below his best this campaign but this is a nice little drop in class for him third-up. MILLIVOY was supported in betting when he returned to Albany last start but was 4.4L off Morgs Freeman. VILLAGE GIRL is as honest and consistent as they come and she’ll get a cheap run. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – MORGS FREEMAN WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,6,7,8,10 2,3,5 1,3,4 1,2 Market Market
