Race 1

BRAZEN BUTCHER has blinkers on first time, hopefully they can sharpen him up and get him back to the level that saw him beat up on C1 opponents first-up. Since then he has gone to a 66+ and been beaten out of sight (locked his jaw – forgive) and then been backed off the boards in a 60+ Graduation and offered minimal when beaten 2.4L by Bonnie Lad, Excess Baggage and Last Stylebender. 5 horse field – shades – straight to the front? SLIP THE JAB sat midfield to break his maiden and then rearwards to win his C1 before finishing third to Snitzalatte and Swingman on two separate occasions in 3 year old Saturday company. He’s very dangerous late. NEW TARGET finished second to Mai Aloha in a C3 fresh. Hasn’t been at the same level since. SHARPASSA looked handy in her first racing prep.

Race 2

SNIPERS SON has had three runs in blinkers: C1 win, C3 win and then last Saturday in a 60+ Gradation when beaten 3.6L from the breeze behind Ripper Farooq, Mai Aloha and Wicked Venom. On the 5 day back-up, dropping back sharply in grade into a C3. Looks the ideal ride for a 4kg claimer in Kayla Holroyd. This will be run hard and fast. PAINT IT RED was simply too quick for them first-up, no trial in a C1 1000 at Ascot, leading and winning by 2.5L, with key rival Snipers Son in third. She’s on a 6 week freshen and the shades are taken straight back off. BRAVE WASP might be a short courser? In the end his only win was at 1000m and his second best career outing was also at 1000m as a 2 year old. Hope the apprentice’s take each other on and swoop late. AMARLIME also fits that profile. Just needs to stay in touch early to be a chance late.

Race 3

TWO UP BOOM resumed in a 3 year old 0MWLY at Belmont when finishing 2L off Refemme No Angel (nominated for Saturday), Cosmic Treat (races Wednesday at Pinjarra), Flash Dancer (races later in a C1) and beat home Superb Vintage (won last Thursday). Back into a maiden, carries the same weight and now has a set of blinkers added first time. Looks a really nice set up for him. Shop early. SUPER SENTAI finished 3.5L off Like Clockwork and A Summer Fling in a 3 year old 1200 midweeker on debut and has trialled up well for his return to racing here. CHATTAHOOCHIE has a bit of X-Factor about her. Nothing went right on debut and was the only one to make any ground behind speedy leader/winner Now You See Me. PERFUME PRINCESS is a 2 year old taking on the older horses and has no weight on her back. She showed plenty of promise in her initial prep. Big market watch.

Race 4

DELZEE looked good in his one and only public appearance, a back straight 930m Lark Hill trial and then went to the races on debut at 1100m when running around under pressure in the home straight but still making inroads behind Dawn Dancer. That 2 year old backed up into a Saturday event and won again and with natural improvement here second-up expect that Delzee will take beating. HELLBENT FOR GLORY is quite wayward and looks to have plenty to learn but was an encouraging return behind Penny Pincher here at Northam first-up. BRILLIANT IN RED is another 2 year old taking on the older horses late in the season. We’ve seen it proving quite fruitful as a point of difference placement in recent weeks. Trial was strong albeit quite slow. PROFOUND BENEFIT absolutely bolted in his trial. Hopeuflly it’s because he’s turned a corner!

Race 5

BELAURA STAR won really well at Ascot over 1100m first-up last preparation and then went to a midweeker when beaten under 2L by Quokka Rocka and Xentaro who really went on with thereafter. At the third run of his prep he ran into the highly talented Herault and then was spelled. Should get the right run and looks to have a future. GREAT PROMISE deserves to win one and back to 1100m might just be the ideal distance. Can’t quite shake them at 1000m, vulnerable late at 1200m. Banging the door down. FLASH DANCER set a really strong sustained tempo second-up. Still looks like he runs his races in patches and switches on and off though. ARTIES STORM makes her WA debut and did go around $5 in a BM64 at Cranbourne earlier this year.

Race 6

MAURICES PRINCESS gave a stack of cheek last start at Northam. She was ultimately run down by heavily commissioned favourite I Love Ya Money but considering she went 4L faster than average to the 600 she’s done a great job to keep fighting on late in the race. Straight to the top again and takes running down. BADGER BOB was in the same race and finished half a length behind her. He’s again drawn really awkwardly and looks a work in progress but is going well. DIAMOND WARRIOR can turn it up on occasion. Senior rider back on and hopefully will start to show some consistency. PHAT CHAPS wasn’t suited by the pedestrian tempo set in front of him fresh. His 2 year old form does read up well.

Race 7

CALL ME INVINCIBLE split Reminiscence and Western Miss first-up. Runs to that level and he’d be hard to beat! Hasn’t had a lot of luck since and even last start looked to have plenty to offer but was held up at crucial stages. He might just sneak under the guard a bit with the expectation of money for TAG TIME who makes his WA debut for Team Williams. Ran third in a Seymore 1300m maiden last prep and the fourth, fifth and sixth horses have all since broken maiden status (in the provincials). Covered the ground well enough in his trials. MAGIC BLUE POINT didn’t get the rub of the green on debut in what has turned into a winner producing race behind Deepest Desire (C1 winner) and Sunset Session (maiden winner). Trials leading into her debut were strong and at her second career outing a senior rider jumps aboard. RUTHLESS BLOOM showed nothing in her first racing prep but trialled up 20L better and showed fresh it was no fluke when catching the eye late and through the line.

Race 8

SWEET SURRENDER won a very similar race to this three starts ago. That day was a 54+ 2100 and this is a 54+ 2200. In her two subsequent runs she was disappointing behind Pointless Praise and then the entirety of the field wasn’t at the same level as emerging staying filly Barraquito. Apprentice to Pike and a tongue tie added to her gear. Right race for her to bounce back to a bit of form. SHAULA finished third in the race that Sweet Surrender won on 17 June and then beat her home in the Pointless Praise race on 28 June. There’s not much between them (except price!). DUCHEES DEMERIT hasn’t won for an eternity but his 66+ placing to Antique Star and 60+ Grad placing to Startling Star reads up brilliantly. BIRD ON A WIRE tests out the waters at 2200m. She’s too honest not to be in the finish.
