Scott Embry’s Wednesday Pinjarra Preview

Race 1

LUKA MAGIC had been beaten 9+ lengths at 25-1+ going into his last start at Belmont. He met with support at odds: $71 into $34 WOP and finished within a length of them. The times out of the race were poor (9.8L slower than maiden average) but yet the form out of the race last week held up, Valanne Dawn won, Rocking In Vegas ran second and Flavoursome ran third. Looks a one paced staying type who will appreciate the full 2200. HESNOTALLTHERE goes from an inexperienced 3kg claimer to The Pontiff and could well have the speed to kick through and lead. At worst is leaders back and is another who looks like he’ll stay. SIN CITY BOY backs up off 6 days and his only run over ground in December wasn’t bad. YALDA NIGHT kept trying behind Savienne but there’s a huge query on that form and the fact he’s 0/26.

Race 2

DIRTY HABITS put the writing on the wall first-up when charging to the line behind Bookends (now a C1 winner and fourth in a 60+ Graduation) and then was backed as if unbeatable second-up ($2.40 into $1.60) and just got caught flat footed when the sprint went on. Breaking down the sections of the race: First 700m = 8L slower than average, so he just wasn’t sharp enough to sprint over the top of his rivals who settled in front of him and got things really cheaply. Out to 1700m, Pike on, we go again. BANGALONG has finished a narrow second to Miss Santa Corrs and then within 1L of Vexatious Rose in her last two. She’s clearly turned a corner and is winding up strongly late. SUPAROO was a huge market mover last start and went within a stride of landing the money. Can be put into the contest. NEW DISCOVERY wasn’t horrible on debut and was specked in betting.

Race 3

COUNTERSUNK has only jumped fairly in his two career outings and that’s probably the biggest concern about following him into his third career outing. The two runs have both been in Saturday company he now drops into a maiden for the first time and his two runs have both caught the eye from a long way off them in running. Gets a wonderful opportunity against a line-up where the majority are on debut at 1300m and he’s drawn a gate to get a nice run (should he jump). TRICKSTER sat up over the speed in a 950m trial and safely held second behind a horse who has shown ability already. With the booking of Pike he’ll be understandably popular. MAGNIFICENT MALCOLM gave plenty of cheek in front last week and was only cut down late, and by a really nice filly. FREE RIDE has shown glimpses.

Race 4

COSMIC TREAT resumed off only a 400m jump out straight into a 3 year old 0MWLY when finishing second behind Refemme No Angel in a race that rated really well. Second-up drops back into a more suitable C1 event and is back to Pinjarra. She can roll forward and park up outside the lead (or even roll on with it) and from either position she should be running a race at an eachway quote. RADIANT LIGHT has turned a corner since being ridden for speed. Took Articole (two from two this prep) the entire length of the straight to run him down last start. BUDERIM resumed in a C3 and ran well behind Leetron and True Fiction. That pair didn’t exactly flatter last Thursday but that was an ugly/wet day. Has X-Factor.  OPTIMUS PRIME led and won impressively in a Kalgoorlie maiden – but all of these would have done the same?

Race 5

GLOBAL TRIP is a 950m Bunbury Fibre Sand winner now all the way out to 1800m. Must admit I gave him none last start in a C1 1600 and he went very close to pinching it. This race is even thinner and he’ll lead without challenge. Likely to be vulnerable late but this is not a deep race whatsoever and Forgotten Son wasn’t disgraced on Saturday in a 60+ Grad. Has to be eachway the field? SISTER MARY stepped into a 2200m maiden and demolished them, winning by an extending 4.6L margin before going to a 54+ 2100 and finished 4L behind Sweet Surrender and then onto a Belmont Oaks when 7.5L adrift of Ladies Pro and Pony Up. This is the most suitable race she has seen since her maiden win and the way that Paul Jordan’s yard is going she’ll be right there in the finish toughing it out. GEE TEE ran out of her skin first-up at Belmont Park behind Reminiscence and then was just a bit flat second-up at 1400m. Did go around in a Listed 1800 at Morphettville last year and is racing like she’ll get ground. AH KUM actually wasn’t horrible last start in a deep C3.

Race 6

SHOWLAS has been knocking on the door for months (and months). Since her last win she has recorded 4x 60+ Grad placings, 2x C5 placings and 4x C3 placings – she’s as consistent as they come. Love seeing the concussion plates come off, think 1600m is the right distance for her and considering she was uncharacteristically slowly away last start thought she did a huge job to get within 2L of Shimonoseki (since placed to Western Miss) and Partay (since won a C1 by panels). Proven weight carrier and rarely misses – eachway to nothing. I’M NIPOTE usually races in Westspeed Platinum and is nicely placed back into a C3. Deep into a campaign but fought on bravely last start behind a nice 3 year old in Two Time Charlie. SANDFIRE ROSE is always there abouts at this level and nearly pinched a C5 1675 last prep. VEXATIOUS ROSE took 11 starts to finally break through after a string of minors.

Race 7

MONTE TREMEZZO won a 60+ 1400 here at Pinjarra last preparation so she’s brilliantly placed into a C5 against the older horses. So far this campaign she has finished second to Bassett Hound in a 3 year old Saturday, finished less than 2L off now 72+ winner Urquharts Bluff in a 66+ and then finished off against the pattern into fourth behind Common Touch (3 from 3 this prep). Will need a good ride from a tricky draw but is flying. PATS LAST BANG will roll straight to the top and control the race. From there on the 54kg limit she’ll be in front for a long way. AINT’SOBAD will find this far more suitable than the 1000m race she was in first-up and is still capable of working her way through the grades. CELEBRITY PRINCE drops out of c70+ races at Kalgoorlie/Esperance. Interesting to see what the market does with him.

Race 8

POBLANO looks another Jason Miller filly/mare who he can slowly but surely take through her grades and will eventually find her way to numerous Saturday victories. Beat Zourun Run first-up in a C3 at Belmont Park before striking a bottomless Heavy8 at Belmont second-up in a 60+ Graduation when 2.5L behind Rock The Market. Pike back on and as we saw first-up under the 59kg, she does have a sharp turn of foot when held up so doesn’t necessarily need to be kicked out to try and find a spot right up over the speed. Like her as a horse. COSMIC SPIRIT hadn’t raced for 558 days when resuming at Northam. Didn’t think she was disgraced and Berry Blast won out of that race last Thursday. BANNERED couldn’t get anywhere near the speed in a 3 year old Saturday and wasn’t the same horse. Forgive. I’M CRAFTY has been going super all prep.
