Michael Heaton’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on February 8, 2022February 9, 2022 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 CYWER makes her race debut after four trials across two preparations and looks to have gears. Drawn awkwardly for her first race start here but when she was asked the question in the recent trial she let down strongly. MARCHAMLEY ran well on debut after showing some ability at trials and can either lead or box seat from his good draw. DUCCHESS DREAM is another debutant who has trialled up nicely and also has options from a good alley. STEEL’S THE DEEL is first-up, no trial but has a good turn-of-foot and should be able to get onto the back of the right horses from three-back-the-fence. Numbers: 10 – 5 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet – CYWER WIN RACE 2 Well-related debutant ROKANORI looked green but talented in both trial wins across two preparations and strikes a winnable race first-up. The Pontiff can have him parked up on the speed and from there he’ll be the horse to beat. PENNYS AFIELD made up good late ground at her first race start without stable rider Chris Parnham in the saddle and now he jumps aboard. BLUE SKATES beat Pennys Afield home in the same race last start and has always showed plenty of ability at trials. Interested to see how she goes being inside horses from barrier two with the young apprentice aboard. It’s been more than nine months since TSZYU’S race debut but he caught the eye in his recent trial and is drawn to get the run of the race. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – ROKANORI WIN RACE 3 AMERICAN TROOP was unlucky not to win last start when storming home to be beaten only a half-length after getting held up and having to change lanes in the straight. He’ll always rely on a degree of luck with his get-back racing pattern but he looks a smart type and the extra 100m here should be ideal. MULTINOVA MAN finished off well first-up over 1400m and maps to get a sweet run midfield. QUEEN’S GIFT has only raced in maiden class once in her eight starts and there are multiple city winners littered throughout her superior formlines. It wouldn’t surprise to see her run a big race fresh and with blinkers on for the first time. SO LIKABLE couldn’t get near the speed last start but can roll forward here and looks better suited dropping back to 1400m with blinkers added. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – AMERICAN TROOP WIN RACE 4 HART TRADER was softened up on a blistering tempo last start but now drops back to 1400m, is rock-hard fit and should be able to find a softer lead. Her previous effort was good enough to prove hard to beat here. KIA ORA STAR is first-up no trial but has a booming finish. Plagued by bad barriers last campaign and continued to reel off big late figures. WHO’S ME DADDY was a sharp improver when savaging the line last start but there may be a slight query on that form. FEAR THE WIND resumes in maiden grade after being thrown in the deep end in feature races last autumn and has always shown glimpses. Numbers: 10 – 11 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – HART TRADER EACH WAY RACE 5 HENCHARD makes his return after a promising first race campaign during the late winter/early spring. Was only beaten a half-length in a Saturday 3YO Plate at his last start before a spell and looks a versatile type who can roll forward and get a field position advantage on his main rivals. PROBITY ran a terrific race against an unsuitably-slow tempo nearly six weeks between runs last start and maps to get a soft run here. MISS FIELD was beaten in inferior company last start but looks to have a strong turn-of-foot. FOREVER DREAMING should enjoy the run of the race. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – HENCHARD WIN RACE 6 CELEVACCI looks a nice type. Won his first two race starts before being beaten only two lengths in Saturday grade after a mid-prep trial last preparation and can roll forward here in a race where his main dangers are likely to settle midfield or worse. BLONDE WARRIOR flew home for an eye-catching second first-up no trial and now drops 2kg while stepping up to a more suitable distance. MRS AMERICA got the wobbles late in betting first-up and didn’t get the best of fortune but can elevate second-up and up to 1400m from a much more favourable alley. GOLD MERITS continues to attack the line strongly. Numbers: 3 – 11 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – CELEVACCI EACH-WAY RACE 7 ALL IN RED profiles nicely for a race of this nature. Was in front all bar the post when beaten a head by Speedbird last start, drops 2kg, has finished in the first two at five of her six starts over a mile and can park right behind the expected strong speed from the draw. SHE’S A SWEET DEEL is flying and the one to beat but she’s likely to have to do it from near-last at her first crack at a mile. I AM SPARTACUS hit the line super in the Mungrup Stud Sprint and now drops in grade and steps up in trip. Joanne Offen has done a terrific job with him after a lengthy lay-off. MAKFLY has been narrowly beaten at his first two runs back on the grass but the map looks sticky in a race with plenty of exposed speed. Numbers: 9 -7 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – ALL IN RED EACH-WAY RACE 8 SPEEDBIRD is absolutely flying. A slow tempo was against her last start but she was able to reel off impressive late splits to get the job done again and now she returns to the more spacious Belmont circuit where she’s undefeated. NATIONAL GUARD made an eye-catching WA debut in stronger grade. He’s drawn awkwardly with an apprentice taking over from W Pike and is 35 days between runs but is a previous winner off both 29 and 45 days. KICK A GOAL SON steps up to a 1600m for the first time and is against proven milers but is certainly going career-best. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 6 – 13 Suggested Bet – SPEEDBIRD WIN RACE 9 MR BRILLIANT was some sort of maiden win at this track and distance last start. Worked across from barrier 15/15 to be wide through the early stages before absorbing huge pressure in the breeze and then pulling away to win in fast time. He can lead or breeze from a better draw here and do the same. FIND YOUR MAN has savaged the line from outside draws at his last two starts and now steps up to a mile with the Pontiff aboard drawn the inside. No idea where VALENCY gets in the run but the maiden win two starts ago was arrogant and to be beaten 2.4 lengths by Trix Of The Trade in a Listed WA Breeders Plate at her most recent outing reads extremely well for a Class 1 event. THE WHITE WITCH was okay at her first crack at a mile last start and now reunites with Carbery. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 9 – 10 Suggested Bet – MR BRILLIANT WIN RACE 10 SHORT TALK was the recipient of good backing at double-figure odds last start and landed the money to make it two wins from three starts at Belmont. She gets quite keen over 1200m so the drop back to 1000m here should be okay. BUMPER HUMPER hasn’t won a race since her 2YO season more than 19 months ago but now finds a new home and was beaten 2.2 lengths behind Iseered Iseered and All Day Session in 66+ grade at this track and distance first-up last preparation. NIGHTS MYSTERY disappointed last start and is often legless in the final stages of his races but he’s a better horse when finding the rail in front and is a genuine 1000m type. ZOUDINI never got a crack at them last start but has now drawn the outside and drops back to 1000m for the first time which looks tough. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – SHORT TALK EACH-WAY Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 2,5,6,7,8,9 3,4,6,10,13 1,4 3,4,5,6,11 Market Market
