Greg’s Ascot Preview Posted on October 21, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper RACE 1 Keen on the chances of the promising ASTRONOMITE in the opener. He strung together a hat trick of wins through the winter and on each occasion he did it with relative ease. He’s trialled well and looks to have a class edge. RIVER DANCE is the ‘x-factor’ horse. He smashed them on debut when he led all the way and then over raced badly at his next two starts when finishing dead last. He’s trialled well and if he brings his best for he can be a genuine danger. PINZU and KRAKKA VISION clashed at Bunbury first-up and there was little between the two. Numbers – 2 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – ASTRONOMITE (TABTOUCH SUPER PICK PROFIT PLUS) SAVE RIVER DANCE RACE 2 ROYAL SUPREME has been getting a long way out of his ground and finishing powerfully. From barrier 1 he should settle much closer to the speed and the rise to 1800m should suit. FO’ SHIZZLE is on the quick back-up from last week. She will likely lead and get conditions to suit. LONE SAILOR has been progressing through the grades nicely this campaign. THE FORGOTTEN ONE can work into the first-four again. Numbers – 3 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – ROYAL SUPREME WIN RACE 3 Seven of the eight runners had their last start at Bunbury where KIROV BOY was able to lead all the way. He rises in weight which will make his task harder. COUGAR NIGHT is probably the horse with the most upside from that race. He was jumping from 1400m and he did find some traffic problems. CHARLESTOWN is very consistent. Pike will give him every chance from a good draw. DRIVE WEST is a horse that does require a true run race to show his best. He’ll get that in this. Not dismissing the chances of KIROV BOY despite his heavy weight impost. Numbers – 8 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – COUGAR NIGHTS SAVE CHARLESTOWN RACE 4 COMING BACK was exceptional first-up. He showed a terrific turn of foot and put pay to a smart galloper in Scales Of Justice in a matter of a few strides. He’ll want to get off the speed so Randy Tan will need to get him into clear room from gate 1 however if he does it should be curtains for his rivals. JUENDIS looks the main danger. Jim Taylor has him ticking over beautifully this preparation. DELRAY BEACH can lead and roll along. ANTIQUE DREAM improves with the rise to 1200m. Numbers – 1 – 8 – 5 -3 Suggested Bet – COMING BACK WIN RACE 5 FINAL SALUTE was very good at Northam. He sat off a hot speed, rounded up the tearaway leaders and charged clear late. Suspect Pike will be able to settle in the first five in running from a good draw and expecting the 1500m to be right down his alley. SWEDISH MEMORIES is a big class dropper. He hasn’t had the greatest of luck this campaign. Harvey sticks which is a big plus. SANDALWOOD is a three-year-old with enormous promise. He’ll get back and monster the line. ONE SHORT next best. Numbers – 7 – 1 – 11 – 4 Suggested Bet – FINAL SALUTE WIN RACE 6 AGARCHAR CRUZ appears to have returned to racing this campaign better than ever. He can tuck in behind an expected hot speed and be very hard to run down in the straight. KING RIVER was a dominant first-up winner where he smashed a subsequent winner. The query is whether his racing pattern will be a negative on the day. AUDIENCE was a very forgetful run last start. She needs to lead to show her best. She improves sharply. TRAVELLIN’ is always a chance in these type of races with the right run. Numbers – 2 – 6 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – AGARCHAR CRUZ WIN RACE 7 This is always one of my favourite races of the spring. It brings together a crack field of three-year-olds who are being set for some of the biggest races over the carnival. The speed doesn’t appear that strong with either THE CELT or CAIPIRINHA taking it up. Almost a bracket selection between CAIPIRINHA and GET OVER IT. Starting with the filly CAIPIRINHA. She’s probably the best maiden in the state. Although beaten at both starts this campaign she has been knocked off by a couple of smart gallopers and on both occasions the winners have had soft runs in transit. With an economical run on the speed which she should get she’s the one to run down. GET OVER IT has been brilliant winning both his career starts. His turn of foot is electric and he’s been tuned up with a lovely barrier trial win. Harvey takes over and from his good draw I expect he’ll settle in a position where he can strike on turning. THE CELT looks the other major chance as he’s the other speed horse in the race. His form around the likes of I Am Boudica through the winter measures up. ROYAL COMMAND is the x-factor horse. He was beaten as a prohibitive odds on favourite on debut at Northam. Suspect he’ll be snagged early and let him attack the line as he did in a recent trial win. Pike riding over the stablemate is also a handy lead. Numbers – 12 – 4 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – CAIPIRINHA AND GET OVER IT RACE 8 SCALES OF JUSTICE pulled hard first-up and was no match for the finishing burst of Coming Back. He usually improves second-up and this race should map beautifully for him with a natural leader in Infathuated rolling along in front. UNIVERSAL LAW looks the danger however his get back racing pattern could make his task difficult. PROPERANTES is a very good fresh horse. DJANGO was flying when last in work. Numbers – 7 – 5 – 3- 8 Suggested Bet – SCALES OFJUSTICE WIN Bet Now!
