RACE 1

Extreme speed expected for this 1000m dash. DON’T HOPE DO led throughout at Caulfield with the rail out 11m coming off a five week freshen, he doesn’t have to lead to be highly competitive once more and has drawn an ideal gate for the stalking role. TONKIN returns from a let-up and will be vying for the lead, ran well in a key form reference at Flemington last start but will need to absorb pressure. MAJOR SHARE is highly-talented, he will be charging late, two jumpouts to resume, the betting is key. BEAST MODE was too fast here last time over 955m, can get wobbly late.

RACE 2

NAPOLEONIC arrives down from Sydney with a meritorious effort in the Group 2 Roman Consul. He has gate speed to overcome a wide draw and is the horse to beat. PRINCE TYCOON was all at sea around the turn at Caulfield and dug deep to win in fast time on debut. Another game performance in QLD before spelling, one jumpout leading in and a course gallop to have him ready. SNOW MERCY handled a significant class rise to win the Champagne Stakes at this venue last start, her chances increase if the speed is on early. VIRTUAL ILLUSION is unbeaten at 1000m in SA, she’s a trier, 1200m is a query.

RACE 3

TRES MAGNIFIQUE was impressive on debut in a strong maiden at Ballarat after showing good ability at the trials. Given no winning chance at start two when ridden quiet at the back of the field and only asked to sprint up the final 100m. With more speed expected in this she is a leading chance coming wide on an expected strong tempo. STARDOM will push forward from a wide draw, recent Flemington jumpout suggests she’s trained on. ROHESIA took a sit here last start and presented to win but found one better swooping from the back. Ethan Brown is a significant rider change, may roll forward. PROFICIENT was heavily-backed defeating a sub winner on debut at Sandown, ridden with a sit that day and expecting similar.

RACE 4

SALTY PEARL is genuine and honest and proved she could run out a mile in the Thousand Guineas with fast closing splits in defeat. She railed strongly in defeat here first-up here over 1200m at stakes level and finds her right race. ENVIABLE is hard to line up coming down from Sydney, in a race lacking depth she may prove the difference, needs the pattern in her favour with a negative racing style. RUSKA ROMA received a birthday win at Seymour dictating terms, harder here. SUNLIT SERENADE has been cruelled by the draw and requiring luck.

RACE 5

FUTURE HISTORY went back to the jumpouts and improved between runs last start sustaining a long run at Caulfield. Returns to his favourite circuit with a plum draw, should take beating. CASINO SEVENTEEN was enormous in defeat in the Coongy Hcp and has drawn to land on the leaders back. MIDDLE EARTH gets blinkers on and a drop in class, back in distance is a query. SIR KINGSFORD can bowl along in the front pair and get terms to suit, he lacks a sprint so will need to be worked on early.

RACE 6

Good race. Two former kiwi mares hold the key and market dominance. SHE’S UNUSUAL comes into the race hard & fit for recent racing and is well-placed against her own sex. Her ability to take up a prominent position gives her the edge. SHE’S A HUSTLER is progressive, kept fresh after winning fresh over 1800m at Flemington, aided by the right run. Five weeks between and two jumpout wins since have kept her ticking over, tricky draw. Another former kiwi POSITIVITY is building nicely into this race third-up in the campaign, her course gallop during the week was impressive! A place hope at massive odds. JENNILALA puts herself in contention as the likely leader on an expected modest speed.

RACE 7

Many chances. Trainer’s pre-race instructions didn’t match the intent shown on DESERT LIGHTING in the Toorak Hcp last start, expect him on-speed and controlling the tempo as he did when winning here earlier in the prep. RISE AT DAWN has jumped out well between runs and this appears a target race third-up. VON HAUKE is having a good prep and has a booming finish but needs everything in his favour to be winning. GOLDEN PATH will appreciate this easier assignment.

RACE 8

CHARM STONE will start a warm favourite as a genuine Group 1 performer dropping in class, she had all favours in the Manikato and needs to overcome a sticky draw. TROPICUS was game in defeat in a fast race at Caulfield last start when Mark Zahra jumped off to find the winner Giga Kick. VESTAS was enormous launching home against the pattern of the day in the Northwood Plume, this is ambitious placement at WFA level. BRIDAL WALTZ is in career-best form and stuck on solid in the Gilgai Stakes, hard to knock.

RACE 9

O’SHEAMUS is a promising type coming down from Sydney looking for ground after a maiden win at 1600m, shown he can take a handy position from the inside draw and will be hoping they run along early. He appeared comfortable with the MV circuit in a course gallop this week and represents value at the price. OPTIONS is having a super preparation in a year lacking quality at his age group. Three weeks since his last run, he appears to have thrived judging by his course gallop at MV where he looked to handle the track without issue. OBSERVER has a tactical advantage hunting forward with Mark Zahra back on, no luck in the Caulfield Guineas and is well-placed to handle the rise in distance. CRACK A DEEL is a genuine staying type proven at this distance range, a jumpout between runs against older horses and blinkers go on.

RACE 10

A race with no speed, tactics will be at a premium, the two Waller-trained mares come through slowly run races in the lead-up. VIA SISTINA needs to improve but is guided by arguably the best ‘grand final’ trainer in the country, she will be peaking on the day, a repeat of last year’s stunning performance though is unlikely. AELIANA may lack the quality of her stablemate, there’s been little separating the pair to this point. ANTINO could play the roll of ‘dispruptor’ with daring tactics. TREASURETHE MOMENT has a query around her after an impressive first-up win.
