RACE 1

Love what LADHAR has been doing at the jumpouts, her debut in the Debutant Stakes was just a run and was subsequently spelled, expecting an improved horse stepping out first-up where she can sit off a good speed and chime in down the middle. Damian Lane in the seat. JACARANDA beat up a small field at Seymour and tackled the Inglis Millenium at Randwick, every chance there and wasn’t good enough, may find this easier. Of the others, GIN TWIST looked to handle the Flem straight with ease in a recent jumpout and watch the betting on the debutants.

RACE 2

Hardest race of the day. REGAL TYCOON is the lone speed runner down on the fence, RUE DE ROYALE (depending on how he jumps) can take up the running from a wider draw coming  up the middle of the track. BEHAVIOUR flashed home here in a similar race, ideally would prefer more speed to bring him in. FLYING MIKI is having a good prep for the Noonan stable and liked his effort here last time, gap between runs the concern. WOLFY is the blowout chance, never won fresh but has performed well up the Flemington straight.

RACE 3

WATERSPORTS is a fit mare and has been placed to advantage all prep, she now finds another suitable race up in grade with a positive map following the speed across, I can see her landing in behind and pouncing with her light weight. BONS TO RICHES likely leads and is flying for Alex Rae, he’s been lumping big weights and was game in defeat at Cranbourne, a soft lead puts him in the mix. Stablemate LITTLE JACK has impressed at jumpouts, tricky map from the pole draw. MAISY next best, good run from the draw.

RACE 4

Speed just even, ASTRAL FLAME is likely to set the tempo going forward off the inside, SNEAKY SUNRISE will sit outside her in the run, the former is going well enough to win up in grade, Radley’s claim is again important for the latter. AHAA AHAA the great enigma will await her turn back on the inside, tempting at the weights, good enough *if she’s on her game. HOT DIGGITY BOOM will land on her outside. On-speed runners should get their chance, happy to play the lead pair.

RACE 5

MCGAW is a very well-placed 3YO looking to replicate his Danehill Stakes win sitting on an expected fast tempo, he looked sharp and forward at the jumpouts for his return and is drawn to get all favours with D Lane back in the saddle. BRIDAL WALTZ backed away from the Oakleigh Plate for this softer option, she’ll roll forward on the rail with 60kg but will have company from MIDWEST. Clayton Douglas has PERILOUS FIGHTER airborne and is aiming up with him, dropping back to a 1000m is the concern.

RACE 6

EDUCATED has been afforded every opportunity to remain unbeaten and steps out of her comfort zone to tackle the Flemington straight, she looks very progressive but there is plenty of early pressure. For that reason I like the placement of YUM, resuming for the McArdle stable, she has been racing over further & around bends but can sustain a strong run off a hot tempo and a fast run 1100 gives her that chance up the straight. Best at odds on the card. WINTERY was impressive coming out of the chute at Pakenham and this is a logical step up. BEL MERCI was good fresh and can only improve, good draw.

RACE 7

No speed. AIR ASSAULT is a good miler and went back first-up in the Carlyon Stakes and was ok in the straight. He maps to get a soft lead second-up if Damian Lane wants it and would take running down from the low draw. ENXUTO races well at Flemington and box-seats in behind. BIRDMAN was supported at odds first-up and had no luck before charging through the line. A key chance again, bigger track suits. WILLYDOIT blinkers on can improve second-up, needs to find his best 3YO form to figure.

RACE 8

Tactics will be fascinating for the feature event. OBSERVER surely leads with Ethan Brown and can rate this horse to his fifth career win. SIXTIES may roll the dice and push on hoping to get outside the leader and has raced forward previously, it appears his best chance of beating the Godolphin colt. Hard to make a strong case for others. PLANET RED will appreciate getting onto a bigger track, the mile suits but the map is niggly. WEST OF SWINDON may play the role of disruptor and make Observer work early.

RACE 9

ALPHA SOPHIE has been faultless for the new camp since arriving from Qld. Received a good ride to win first-up and should improve further into this, the straight track should pose no issue and is clear horse to beat. GETTA GOOD FEELING has been eye-catching at the jumpouts coming off a VRC Oaks campaign, holding to some residual fitness she can sprint well fresh, winning chance hinges on how far back she is over 1200m. TEINE AULELEI brings the right form, she too will give them a start early and TORONADO QUEEN impressed winning fresh, may go with it.

RACE 10

XTRA RUSH fares best on the speed map coming across and should tuck in behind a good tempo early. He dug deep to hold off the challenge of a subsequent winner at Caulfield first-up and sure to improve again rising in trip. It’s a wide open race behind him. MR MONACO can improve second-up as he did winning last campaign, the speed on helps. SUNSETS has recaptured his better form and has won fourth-up previously. FOUJITA SAN is the blowout at odds, good jumpouts for new stable and a must include for the multiples.
