Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on August 7, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 2 NO.2 GALACTIC FURY GALACTIC FURY is long overdue for his first win and gets a great chance to break his maiden status when he runs in the Lexus Plate (1410m). The son of Street Boss has been placed at six of his 9 starts to date including a luckless last start 2nd behind his stablemate FLINDERS RIVER over 1400 metres at Caulfield on July 25. He is drawn for a cheap run, leading rider Jye McNeil retains the ride and looks to have slightly superior form to his rivals. The Maher/ Eustace stable have a strong hand in this Flemington meeting and GALACTIC FURY appeals as one of their best chances. RACE 3 NO.6 CAFÉ RIZU The lightly raced three year old stayers contest the Grinders Coffee Roasters Plate (1800m) and the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr trained filly CAFÉ RIZU has had a good preparation for this race and appears ready to step up in distance. The daughter of Rubick worked home stylishly when finishing 7th over 1300 metres at Geelong two starts back before a comprehensive win over 1500 metres at Ballarat Synthetic on July 20. She is ready for the longer trip now and gets the services of champion rider Damien Oliver. It’s an even race however CAFÉ RIZU should continue to improve and appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 9 NO.16 ANTAGONISER The best value runner of the day is ANTAGONISER when he tackles the Benchmark 70 Handicap (1410m). The four year old will be fitter for one run back from a spell, boasts a solid second-up record and looks drawn for a good run. He appeared to peak on his run when finishing 9th behind LORD MARKEL over 1300 metres at Sandown Hillside on July 22. He drops 3kg for that run, handles soft ground and has solid Flemington form. It’s a typical Benchmark 70 with a host of chances, however ANTAGONISER looks primed for a big showing at nice odds. Market Market
