Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on May 31, 2019 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 5 NO.1 JUNGLE EDGE Evergreen sprinter JUNGLE EDGE is working up to another win and looks very well placed when he contests the Open Handicap (1100m). The eight year old showed his customary speed when finishing a brave 2nd behind ORDER OF COMMAND over 1200 metres at Caulfield on May 11. ORDER OF COMMAND confirmed that form with a win at stakes level in the Straight Six (1200m) at Flemington on May 25. JUNGLE EDGE looks the likely leader in this race and, with the benefit of Chelsea Hall’s 3kg claim, should prove hard to beat. RACE 6 NO.3 PROPELLE Handy filly PROPELLE’s form has improved since she’s been ridden quietly and she looks the one to beat again when she contests the 3YO Fillies Handicap (1100m). The daughter of Smart Missile produced a barnstorming finish to win over 1000 metres at Caulfield on April 27 before another strong performance to finish 2nd with 60kg behind BAM’S ON FIRE over 1100 metres at Caulfield on May 11. She drops 4.5kg on that run, meets a similar field and is drawn to settle back and come with one late run. It’s a competitive race but PROPELLE is ideally placed to run well again. RACE 9 NO.9 LIVE AND FREE Astute trainer John O’Shea has found a suitable race for Sydney visitor LIVE AND FREE when he runs in the Open Handicap (2000m) and looks a great winning chance. The four year old was jumping from 1550 metres to 2000 metres when finishing 3rd in the Lord Mayors Cup at Rosehill on May 18. He will be fitter for that run and just looks the progressive horse in this field. On a tough program, LIVE AND FREE makes appeal as the best bet of the day. Market Market
