Darren Clayton’s Albion Park Preview Posted on July 1, 2022July 1, 2022 | Posted by Darren Clayton Race 1 ROCKIN MARTY (10) will need to negotiate the second line gate at his first run back in Qld following a handy effort from outside the front line at Menangle last start in the Golden Mile. The tempo and map look right. MAJOR JELLIS (6) is afforded no favours form the wide gate, but his 2 wins here at The Creek have been full of merit. Blitzing the mile in 1.51.3 at his last start with a sizzling 26.9 third split, the gate is the concern. TOMMY LINCOLN (1) was runner-up to Turn It Up four runs back after setting the speed over the 2138m. The improved gate is an asset. CRIME WRITER (4) ran Sebs Choice to a neck two starts back and then was midfield to that same winner in the Redcliffe Cup last time. Back to a mobile start is a plus. Selections: 10-6-1-4 Suggested Bet: ROCKIN MARTY (10) each-way Race 2 ONE BIG SHEW (11) was just a half-head away last start when using the passing lane. Sectionally strong in both starts prior, including a smart win when swooping over the top two runs back, this is open, and he can descend. TRIPLE FOUR (7) will be fitter after his last start Menangle win where he was resuming from a spell. The gate is a real dampener, but his returning win was smart in 51 flat. JENDEN STRIKE (1) has terrific figures at the middle trip, scored a strong win two starts back with the only real concern being if she has the hustle to protect the poles. WINONA WRITER (3) will be first up from a break, trialled in nice order behind Ripp and brings a smart record where she is 7 from 12. Selections: 11-7-1-3 Suggested Bet: WINONA WRITER (3) to place Race 3 ARTILLERY (9) overcame gate 7 two runs back, ripping home a sub 27 panel after working in the run. Luckless in the patrons Purse when losing momentum behind a tiring leader, the map looks favourable. DELIGHTFUL DUDE (7) was a tough winner last start when racing first over and holding on for a narrow victory. Stripping fitter, the gate dents the repeat hopes. WATTS UP SUNSHINE (3) found the line in nice style last time out behind Another Statement and has the early bullets to take a shot here. LAMANDIER (10) took them all the way at Redcliffe last start with 3m to spare on the wire. The gate makes the repeat a tough ask. Selections: 9-7-3-10 Suggested Bet: ARTILLERY (9) to win Race 4 JERADAS DELIGHT (7) returned from a spell from outside the front line at Redcliffe last week in a tidy first up run chasing The Honey Queen. Despite the horrid gate, back to the big deck should help her display her class. SOHO ALMASI (4) did not get the best run-in transit last start behind Ballerini which followed a first up defeat when deep into the red. With the right trip, she should be ready to capitalise. BALLERINI (6) was a big winner two starts back on this track but had no luck last week when buried at Redcliffe. CHEESANDKISSES (1) scored a handy win at Redcliffe last start, forcing Cover Girl to settle for 2nd. Her closing speed should suit from this alley. Selections: 7-4-6-1 Suggested Bet: JERADAS DELIGHT (7) to win Race 5 RONALDO (1) sat outside the speed at Young last time out and his run was huge and only just in arrears in a track record breaking run from the winner. Stepping out in Qld for the first time, he lands the gate to strike. BOMBADIER JUJON (4) could not eat into the deficit last start behind Alby Two Chains which followed a 2m margin to Delightful Dude. Conditions look right. CAPTAIN NEMO (8) will benefit from his last start after he just plateaued in the closing stages. The cosy trip helps. SO BOBS YOUR UNCLE (5) is normally better suited with a peg run but finds an open contest where positioning cheaply will be a big help. Selections: 1-4-8-5 Suggested Bet: RONALDO (1) to win Race 6 SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS (5) should strip fitter following his first up victory where he released the speed and then took every metre of the stretch to arrive. The middle of the line makes the map look awkward, but his class can shine bright. A GS WHITE SOCKS (11) resumes from a spell at his first Qld appearance for the McCarthy stable after his last start effort in the Auckland Cup. The narrowest of 2nds the start prior in the Cambridge Flying Mile, the gate stings. BLACKSADANCE (9) was big in defeat over the 2680m trip last start when pressing to the front and making Spirit Of St Louis earn the victory but is given no favours from this gate. NORTHVIEW HUSTLER (3) stuck to the poles in the Redcliffe Cup and sliced through in the closing stages for 2nd to Sebs Choice. His early speed can be an asset for this. Selections: 5-11-9-3 Suggested Bet: SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS (5) to win Race 7 JILLIBY KUNG FU (4) is now 2 from 2 in his comeback after dominating last start over the 2138m. With some sizzling closing splits to defy the chasers, it was a win full of class. His march can continue. MAKE MINE MEMPHIS (8) was rattling home behind Jilliby Kung Fu two starts back, attacking the line with power and then not much went his way in the Redcliffe Cup. If he is leaders back, he will be primed to strike. CRUNCH TIME (1) set all the early tempo leading to a new Redcliffe track record last week but faded after approaching the home bend. The gate and bigger deck help. INFATUATION (9) is in super form and been consistently attacking the line in his races. The gates give him peg line options. Selections: 4-8-1-9 Suggested Bet: JILLIBY KUNG FU (4) to win Race 8 SUMOMENTSOMEWHERE (12) has been dealt the outside second line which makes his task ever so harder, but the tempo looks solid which is in his favour. The second line gate put him out of business in the Patrons Purse behind Manila Playboy before bouncing back with a slick win. TIMS A TROOPER (1) swept home to claim the Redcliffe Derby last week, tracking into the race and after hitting the front in the stretch, held of the swooping Dangerzone. The gate opens all the options. MANILA PLAYBOY (4) has been super since resuming from a spell, mixing some brilliant close outs with grit. It was a starchy effort last start in the Patrons Purse after sitting parked and taking the win and finding position cheaply will be all important. HEMSWORTH (6) did not get the chance to attack in a straight run last start behind Manila Playboy when grabbing 3rd in the Patrons Purse. The gate makes his task tough. Selections: 12-1-4-6 Suggested Bet: SUMOMENTSOMEWHERE (12) each-way Race 9 GLOBAL FLIGHT (1) is undefeated after three starts since joining the Narissa McMullen stable and from the inside lane, that record is a big chance of being maintained. He looked in danger last week until finding space and charging home. DOFF YOUR CAP (10) was having his first Qld appearance in the first-round heats and sent out the punters elect; he did not disappoint. This will be harder back to the middle trip, but with three successive victories, four is not out of reach. RILEY MOMENT (4) will be suited a by a return to the 2138m after fading in the latter stages in front last week. Her manners are a plus. SIR FAHRENHEIT (9) needs to maximise his points after an error put him out of play in the first round. He will need to be at his best from 30m over the middle trip. Selections: 1-10-4-9 Suggested Bet: GLOBAL FLIGHT (1) to win Race 10 JEWEL MELODY (3) is already a two-time G1 winner with her most recent start when blitzing her rivals to take a 21m margin in the APG Final at Menangle. With a sizzling trial to prepare for her Northern assignments, the divide looks too great in this small field. SMIRKS LIKA BOSS (4) is putting together a smart form card, stamped with a last start dictating victory over the older horses. Tightened from that win, his 3rd in 4 starts, he looks the danger- if there is one. HOLD ONTO YA BLING (5) held on for 3rd behind Tardelli last week in the Redcliffe Sales Final in a huge performance after striking trouble on the first turn. CARTER GRANT (1) has the benefit of the inside gate and has been showing improvement every time he steps out. Selections: 3-4-5-1 Suggested Bet: JEWEL MELODY (3) to win Race 11 LOTAMUSCLE (9) was chasing in the Redcliffe Cup two starts back when finding the line in nice fashion behind Majestic Harry. Asked to do it the tough way in the first-round heat, he should strip fitter after two runs back. MAJESTIC HARRY (7) held on for 2nd to Doff Your Cap in the first round after being required to work hard in the run. Taking the Redcliffe Cup two runs back, his manners help. RED CASTLETON (10) is another key runner that will need to maximise his points this round after finishing down the line last week in round one. SOBOMBA (3) was placed when just 4m in arrears last week after stepping cleanly. His manners and getting back in trip will help. Selections: 9-7-10-3 Suggested Bet: LOTAMUSCLE (9) to win Market Market
