Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview

RACE 1

Cracking day of racing set down for Randwick on Saturday which will all take place on a dry track with low 30’s temps forecast & no rain. A mile midway gets the meeting underway & not surprisingly it’s a very open looking race. (14) MY PHAR LADY was a strong closing Newcastle winner first up over 1350m before rising 50m when only really warming up late second up here on the Kensington track. 1600m looks very suitable & Jason Collett sticks. (5) KINGSTON CHARM looks close, needs a touch of luck from the wide draw as does (4) CHARLEROI who doesn’t look far away either. Nos.1 & 11 in the mix also.

Numbers: 14 – 5 – 4 – 11

Suggested Bet: Box up top 5 selections in exotics.

RACE 2

24 acceptors for the Highway, max of 18 to face the starter & we have one runner (12) AUTUMN BREAK dominating the market. I’ll lean his way as he’s yet to be defeated however I’m not launching into the short quote as he has to bring that winning country form to town plus to the eye 1200m first up might be a little short? By The Autumn Sun he’s looked good at the end of both recent 1400m wins & is no not likely to be fully wound up as yet. (4) PONY SOPRANO resumes with a good fresh record & has measured up to this level in the past, market watch. Host of other chances at odds!

Numbers: 12 – 4 – 9 – 16

Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics.

RACE 3

The Lonhro Plate for the 2yo’s sees a number of well trialled debutantes take on a handful of experience types, market action will be all important. Liked the look of the unraced (11) ESSAY running home under no urgings in a recent Warwick Farm trial with last week’s impressive winner Hidrix close up behind. Her price has shortened since first market went up which is not surprising as it did look ‘well overs’. (5) SPICY MISS has the race experience running a terrific second on debut sitting deep, trialled well & draws to land a much softer run today. (2) CAMPIONE D’ITALIA & (10) AGRARIAN GIRL have also shown up well at the trials.

Numbers: 11 – 5 – 2 – 10

Suggested Bet: ESSAY EACH-WAY.

RACE 4

No reason (9) UNLEESHING can’t continue on her winning way here. She’s really hit her straps this prep running home well twice before completely dominant here on the Kensington track when stepping up to this distance range & dropping in class last start. Back down in the weights she only gets an additional 50m here however I still see her proving too good for these. (7) LANCELOT DU LAC is promising & in very good hands, will roll forward & give a sight. J. Mac jumps onto (5) PRETTY POWERFUL which is a significant jockey change, I can’t catch the horse however that’s not surprising.

Numbers: 9 – 7 – 5 – 3

Suggested Bet: UNLEESHING TO WIN.

RACE 5

(7) MONTE VEEBEE is a very promising type who resumed in dominant fashion leading throughout at Newcastle. He’s going to be suited stepping out over further as he has already won up to 1400m however is still sharp enough being only second-up. (3) POLYGLOT hasn’t raced since November when well out of the money however there were genuine excuses, he can run a race fresh & should be kept very safe. (1) BUNDEENA looks close however hasn’t won for some time, plenty of weight however a little better drawn than the latest couple.

Numbers: 7 – 3 – 1 – 6

Suggested Bet: MONTE VEEBEE TO WIN (small bet).

RACE 6

I’ve been with (4) SCRIPTED all prep in Queensland & although yet to break through she hasn’t put in one bad run, luck has deserted her on multiple occasions. Freshened up today drawn a good gate with the world’s best jockey on board I firmly in her corner once again. (3) CANDLEWICK the logical danger who will be peaking third run back, not far away both outings this prep to date. (7) LA ROJA was well supported first up & ran accordingly beaten only marginally by the winner who is a smart type, has won second up in the past.

Numbers: 4 – 3 – 7 – 8

Suggested Bet: SCRIPTED TO WIN.

RACE 7

The 2 million-dollar Inglis Millenium is a lottery, so many lightly raced well performed youngsters going around, luck in running will be worth plenty. I’m going a little wider than most putting (13) LONG THROW on top. Trained by Ciaron Maher she’s a filly with only the one start under her belt when running on strongly at Rosehill 3 weeks back. She may want further however at this early stage of her career should be sharp enough to figure, perhaps look for her late. Queensland visitor (5) STAR OF JAMAICA had excuses on debut before strong late winning second time around, additional 100m suits & the stable continue to train plenty of winners. (2) PLAGIARISM rates well off the debut Golden Gift placing, (9) WHERE’ THE CIRCUS also rated well when winning at big odds on debut.

Numbers: 13 – 5 – 2 – 9

Suggested Bet: LONG THROW EACH-WAY (small bet).

RACE 8

The Group 3 Eskimo Prince sees the return of the very smart (3) TEMPTED who we haven’t seen since clocking in second behind the champ Ka Ying Rising in the Everest back in October. I’m not the only one who has always had a big opinion of her & judging by her trial she’s come back in great order, surely a class above these. (5) WODETON has always had big wraps on him, not seen since pulling up lame in the Caulfield Guineas he arguably should be 2 from 2 first up? (2) NAPOLEONIC & (1) RIVELLINO can figure in the placings.

Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 1

Suggested Bet: TEMPTED TO WIN.

RACE 9

Found this a very difficult race. I’m looking for some J. Mac magic with the widely drawn (7) WEST OF AFRICA who was very strong to the line here two back (second-up) before having no luck at the Gold Coast over the Magic Millions carnival, he’s won twice at the mile & with a back to follow will be storming home late. (12) BEAR ON THE LOOSE will roll forward, map looks quite favourable, may take some running down, market? (16) SUN GOD in the mix also whilst I wouldn’t be surprised to see (5) JUJA KIBO sprint well fresh.

Numbers: 7 – 12 – 16 – 5

Suggested Bet: WEST OF AFRICA EACH-WAY (small bet).

RACE 10

1000m dash to wind up the day. (6) CELUI appeals fresh having won 3 of his 5 first up attempts to date, the latest of those was at Muswellbrook last prep finishing right over the leaders with the steadier of 63kg. Returns to racing off a bleeding attack in May last year being given plenty of time to recover. (3) THE BLACK CLOUD is not a mare I can catch however she’s always a chance & no doubt will be bursting through late between rivals. (7) SPRING LEE is a very good mare who can sprint well fresh with luck off a wide draw.

Numbers: 6 – 3 – 7 – 5

Suggested Bet: CELUI EACH-WAY.
