Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on February 5, 2026February 5, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Doomben racing in Brisbane on Saturday will be on a good rated surface with fine weather forecast. The youngsters get the meeting underway & with more first starters than experienced runners the market will be a very valuable guide. (1) HARRY’S BACK wasn’t fancied on debut yet hit the line well behind the smart Star Of Jamaica who is well fancied in the rich Inglis Millenium at Randwick later today, the additional 110m looks suitable. (3) SHEZA BOOM a very interesting runner, was down to run in that Millenium race however connections have decided to stay home, both outings to date clearly in stronger company than this & is from a betting stable. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics/Monitor market moves. RACE 2 I’m with the Tony Gollan trained (3) DOMINANT DARCY who romped in here two back however did have tempo to suit being able to control affairs from the front. Rising 150m next start she did very well to beat all bar the winner who had the last crack, back to 1200m this afternoon from a good draw this looks a very suitable race for her. (4) THE STARS gave away too much start at Ipswich running on into second, she’ll settle a lot closer today from a more favourable draw. (2) CASINO BAY was only run down late first up, fitter & drawn to lead or box seat. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: DOMINANT DARCY TO WIN. RACE 3 (8) PRINCE LEVI was able to be positioned closer last start courtesy of an inside gate. He couldn’t quite hold off the winner Enterprise Private however that’s no knock as he is in peak form. He stays at the same level (BM78) & with another favourable draw can go one better. (2) FELIX THE SCAT & (3) RAF ATTACK come out of the Gold Coast Mayors Vase last start which was a stronger race, they do pay the price at the weights even after claims though. The formers run was good taking off a fair way from home whilst the latter got moving very late. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: PRINCE LEVI EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Good support around in early markets for last start winner (4) TEN DEEP who does look likely to land a good run in the race. Ex-Victorian who has had just the one start for our leading stable when zooming through a gap in the straight pinching a winning break. He has won up to 1400m suggesting the step up isn’t of any concern. (9) MORE FOR READY’s chances don’t look great on the map from the wide alley however her run in the same race as the top tip was a good one without luck, definitely having a saver. (7) VELOZES strips fitter & will go forward from the outset, looked in need of the run first up. Numbers: 4 – 9 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet: TEN DEEP TO WIN/Saving MORE FOR READY. RACE 5 As it stands there is good pace in this race, hopefully all if not most of those leaders go around. I went looking for one who could park off speed & finish with a rush & that could be the Currie trained runner (4) MOONHAVEN who was very well supported at his first local run at the Sunshine Coast clocking in fifth. He doesn’t win out of turn however fitter & with a little further he could show up without surprising. (8) YOYO YEEZY is a lightly raced consistent type who might be ridden off speed here, he could be a better chaser than leader? (1) AIR WE GO maps well & no knock on (5) NEIL’s form. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: MOONHAVEN EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 6 I was impressed with (9) TOO MANY THOUGHTS Sunshine Coast win a fortnight back as he had to park 3 deep without any cover working the entire race. Yes, in his favour the tempo wasn’t strong however he covered more ground than most & was the one sticking his neck out when needing to on the line. Up he goes in the weights today however from the good draw he’s landing a much softer run for an apprentice who is in hot form. (7) RAMP IT UP will need luck from the wide alley however both runs back have been full of merit running on. (13) SUKHBIR is big odds & worth including, made up a lot of ground last start. Numbers: 9 – 7 – 13 – 19 Suggested Bet: TOO MANY THOUGHTS EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Topweight (1) FABULANTES looks to be chasing the step up in distance he gets today & he really shouldn’t have to do much work at all in the run. Well back in the field last start he had to make up many lengths to put himself in the finish, he did that & kept on coming running home hard to beat all bar the winner (9) READY FOR AIMEE is a model of consistency without winning, her time is close though & she may too enjoy the additional trip. (6) WOOTTEN HYDE had genuine excuses last start & can improve sharply here. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: FABULANTES TO WIN ($3 or better). RACE 8 Very open looking race where I’ve settled on (1) TALTARNI FIELDS however was looking for a better price than what’s on offer early. Many, many chances in the race however he ticks a number of boxes with the inside gate, claim & record here at the track. (2) SCUD has been quite good this prep winning on multiple occasions, claim helps & should find this a little easier. (5) LOST HIS BEANS didn’t come up last prep however his first up record is a very good one & he hails from a shrewd yard, don’t sell him short if there’s market support. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 Fancy (3) HELL will just be too speedy for these around here. He’ll have no trouble finding the front & his past couple at tracks with longer straights have been excellent. Around this tighter turning circuit he’s likely to be ridden for speed & good luck running him down should that be the case! (2) HATCHET was the party spoiler last start when HELL looked like holding in, bursting through late he arrived in the nick of time, 1.5kg weight swing against him here for the narrow win however he’s still the logical danger. (4) WEIGALL TIGER a market watch fresh, the firm ground will suit him. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: HELL TO WIN. RACE 10 Keen on the chances of the mare (14) BENGAL DIAMOND in this closing race. She’s a lot more consistent than her record suggests often running into dead ends or being a victim of tempo. Two starts back Ben Thompson made use of a good gate having her closer in the run & with the gaps coming in the straight she finished too well. That’s what I’m looking for here & the rise to 1600m looks very positive. (1) NAILS MURPHY isn’t as well placed at the weights as last start however he was very strong to the line there with (2) QUOTHQUAN running third, both can run well once again. Numbers: 14 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: BENGAL DIAMOND TO WIN. Market Market
