Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on July 24, 2025July 24, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing in Sydney on Saturday comes from Randwick where the track will be just about back to Good by late Friday however 3-9mm is forecast Saturday morning, hopefully we get very little, keep your eyes on the skies. We get the day underway with a 2yo affair where I’m leaning to the debut winner (7) NAZWAH who impressed at Gosford going straight to the front before clearing out in the straight all without any decent pressure applied. You’d have to expect her to gain plenty of benefit from the race day experience & the stable is having a very good run. (1) SHAGGY & (4) OPEN SECRET have the best form lines from their last preps, note the former returns a gelding. (3) NASHVILLE JACK & the debutante (10) KOBITO have trialled well. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 4 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 5 selections in exotics. RACE 2 This week’s Midway is over a mile just as it was here a fortnight back. Best run in that race was the second-up (2) KINGSTON CHARM who found the line well, maybe looking for further, may not as all 5 wins have been around this distance range, if close enough to strike he’ll prove very hard to hold out. (3) FORECASTER looks well placed back in grade, drawn the pole & dropping marginally in weight, could prove tough to run down. (4) GLAD YOU THINK SO went around in the same race when posted wide, forgive that effort hopefully he lands a better run today although the gate isn’t ideal once again. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 16 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Keen to back a couple on this race being (6) IN SUMMER & (7) RED RAGS TO BULLS & at the early prices on offer we can do just that. At the better odds I’ll lean to the latter for tipping’s sake who just got too far back here last start before running home very well, she is a backmarker so she will need luck. (6) IN SUMMER comes out of the same last start race & also found the line well, right at her peak third run back from a break. (3) SO YOU ARE was in the market first up however ended up wide throughout, that won’t be the case today from the favourable draw. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: RED RAGS TO BULLS & IN SUMMER TO WIN. RACE 4 Just as in the previous race I’m keen to back two horses here. (1) CODETTA zipped home fresh in an eye-catching return before being caught wide her past couple yet fighting on very strongly to the line on each occasion. Surely from an inside gate today she’ll be one off at worst & from there she’ll get her chance. (4) STARDEEL broke the maiden status two back before running on well last start, step up in distance is ideal. (8) GOLDEN STRAND won a trial by over 9 lengths before scoring first up (gelded), off a 5-week break into this however looks to have good ability. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: CODETTA & STARDEEL TO WIN. RACE 5 (4) OH DIAMOND LIL rolled along in front here a fortnight back setting a solid tempo before giving plenty down the straight to hold her rivals by just under a length on the line, she never really looked like being caught. That win suggested something similar would suit however here she is ‘officially’ rising in grade, is she rising all that much though as most of these are struggling for form & will need to show improvement to win. On speed again with less weight over the same trip she can make it two straight. (3) GREEN SHADOWS & (6) BATTLETON to fill the placings. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet: OH DIAMOND LIL TO WIN. RACE 6 Keen on the chances of the Chris Waller trained mare (7) CHANGING COLOURS who won at the mile four back before placed at the same trip three back when already likely needing further. Freshened & favoured by a strong tempo she won two back over 1400m before pulling up with issues same trip the latest. Now she gets to 1800m, ideal. (10) BRIGHT RED draws the pole & continues to race consistently, handles all ground suggesting any rain about won’t prove an issue. (5) SHE’S UNUSUAL next best. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet: CHANGING COLOURS EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Tipping (4) SACRED ROCKS here however she’s certainly not going to have everything go her way. The drop back in distance isn’t ideal, the wide gate isn’t helpful, she’s a very promising type though who is potentially lengths better than anything else in this field, hopefully her class proves the deciding factor. (9) DRIFT NET finds a suitable race whilst (5) LITTLE COINTREAU is a regular placegetter, both do struggle to win though, that’s the concern. Numbers: 4 – 9 – 5 – 12 Suggested Bet: SACRED ROCKS TO WIN ($2.50 or better). RACE 8 Very tricky looking race this one. Most step up in grade off a run of consistent form, a few don’t such as (4) CIGAR FLICK who I just can’t tip these days, she can win without me. (7) THE BLACK CLOUD doesn’t either, her form this time in has been good placing at both outings & she maps well, drops in weight & handles all conditions. (1) STORM THE RAMPARTS, big weight, wide gate all suggests he’s up against it, he keeps turning up though & just cannot be overlooked. Stack of other chances including the Queensland mare (8) TERMAGANT should she discover her best form, she’s been very average both runs this prep for a mare with plenty of talent. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet: THE BLACK CLOUD EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Last chance here for the lightly raced (5) LIVIN’ THING who was out of the placings last start however there may have been excuses? Running into traffic half-way down the straight he did look like he was beginning to pick up ground, just how much is the unknown, it may have been plenty, may have been little. Whatever the case this is an easier race & he draws positively, would love to see him ridden that way. (3) CASSIEL continues to race consistently, just needs to overcome a very awkward gate. (17) DUROVA & (9) ROYAL COMMODORE bring winning country form, both were impressive. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 17 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 10 Good race to finish up the day. I don’t see any decent speed on the map which should allow (6) PUNTIN to offset hit awkward alley without too much fuss. He may not lead however can settle in the first four & from there based on his consistent run of form plus the favourable step up in distance will prove hardest to beat. (7) PURE ALPHA’s chances increase should the track stay wet or deteriorate. (2) VEGA MAGNIFICO next best, fitter for the first up run. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: PUNTIN TO WIN.
