Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on July 24, 2025July 24, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Rain is forecast on Saturday in Brisbane, at this stage the experts suggest late afternoon/evening which wouldn’t be a bad result, very much up in the air at this early stage through. Should the newcomer (6) DRAGON LINK have support in this opening race I’m leaning his way. He won a trial at the same session (7) BOOMSHANKA did on the Gold Coast & whilst the latter ran the quicker time the former covered plenty of ground looming up at least 4 deep around the home turn. (7) BOOMSHANKA has the race experience & did score with gas in the tank, I’m expecting both to run well. (8) ISSY’S STAR & (1) JAGGERY will be suited should the rain come early. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet: DRAGON LINK & BOOMSHANKA TO WIN. RACE 2 Small field however a tricky race & a fair bit depends on the weather as (2) WEIGALL TIGER could easily be my top pick however only on a dry surface. On the flip side (4) NANA’S WISH is in good form, that’s due to wet tracks, her record on dry isn’t anywhere near as good. (8) KADALL looks well placed once again however he offered nothing last start after a soft run & his winning strike rate sums him up, he wins without me. A surprise result wouldn’t shock, I’ll be waiting to see what the weather does. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Gold Coaster (5) ROCK HARD LOVE is racing in a purple patch of form having won 2 of his past 4 starts. He doesn’t take on any stars here & did carry a similar big weight to win two back. Rain certainly won’t be a problem, in fact he’s likely better suited with some dampness around. (12) CHAYSE ‘N’ ADAM is racing well, low gate should be a positive whilst (14) JILLAROO should be a sharp improver, ex-American mare who won well two back before pulling up with vet issues last start when beaten a long way. Numbers: 5 – 12 – 14 – 7 Suggested Bet: ROCK HARD LOVE TO WIN (small bet). RACE 4 Happy to back two runners here & both are coming off strong last start wins. (4) VICTORY FLAME is only lightly raced & ran home over the top of Velozes over 1400m at Eagle Farm, we saw that mare come out & win on Wednesday franking the form line, 1600m second-up looks ideal. (7) DRACENA is also only lightly raced, absolutely strolled home first up at the Sunshine Coast, yes it was a maiden however she couldn’t have been any more impressive & I’d be surprised should she not handle the class rise here. (1) APUNTAR is always around the mark, just finds it hard to win. Happy to take on (10) BOLLINGER MISS who has shown no liking for 1600 to this point. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: VICTORY FLAME & DRACENA TO WIN. RACE 5 Very open race, luck may well play a big park in the result. I’ll lean to the second-up (16) GOSPEL GIRL who ran her usual honest race when resuming at the Sunshine Coast 3 weeks back. She draws a lot better than many of her rivals here & is a second-up winner & will handle any type of going. (10) END ASSEMBLY had every chance chasing (8) HAWKER HALL here last time out, meets that one better at the weights this time though & much more favourably at the barrier draw. (14) LEAD ME ON in the mix also. Numbers: 16 – 10 – 8 – 14 Suggested Bet: GOSPEL GIRL EACH-WAY. RACE 6 Can’t be too confident with these restricted stayers as they tend to mix their form. (10) BECAMO has certainly turned his form around in recent times winning two on the trot (one here) before placing here up to 2000m last start when finding the line well over the concluding stages. Based on that the 2200m should be ok & he gets Emily Lang & her 1.5kg claim which is a big help. (6) PHILLIPSBURG a chance, any rain will help him. (11) BENGAL BOY in the mix as well. Could have easily missed the winner, it’s that sort of race. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 11 – 13 Suggested Bet: BECAMO EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 7 Going with one at big odds here in (6) DON’T STOP who has shown signs he might be getting back to his better form. His first two outings this prep were ok in stronger grade behind early carnival type gallopers, excuses at Ipswich two back when wide throughout he then zoomed home late in the Listed Eye Liner which has been a very strong form reference. Gate not ideal here however he’s got the claim for a very capable apprentice. (9) CASTILLIAN has had a cracking prep finishing out of the placings only once (4th), drawn perfectly for Angela Jones. (7) CUNNAMULLA FELLA, (4) RISE OF THE MASSES in the mix also, the latter should enjoy the step up in trip. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet: DON’T STOP EACH-WAY. RACE 8 Can’t tip against the very consistent (1) METALART who although rising 3.5kg off his win in the Group 3 Healy Stakes has carried bigger weights than todays to victory in restricted company. He should be too sharp for this lot should we not get to a heavy surface who on their day would make him earn it however for most that day seems to have passed. (4) NETTUNO can be promoted up the order should we get rain, he’s a fan. (2) THE BIG GOODBYE & (3) ALL THAT PIZZAZZ in the mix. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet: METALART TO WIN (no worse than soft). RACE 9 (2) SAVOUR THE DREAM has trialled well & has plenty of ability, he didn’t fire in the two Group 1’s down south however did have valid excuses at the first (wide). If there’s money for him I’d be following it. Tipped (10) TEN GOOD REASONS last Saturday & he ran very well closing strongly at the end of 1200m. No jockey engaged as I type & he draws out, suggest he’s probably not likely to run however I’ll leave him on top at this early stage. Should he not then (1) MISTER BIANCO rises up the order, controversial scratching at the Sunshine Coast he then missed the kick & had nothing go right here 2 weeks ago, he’s better than most if not all of these. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: SAVOUR THE DREAM EACH-WAY. Market Market
