Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on December 26, 2024December 26, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Randwick on Saturday, possible storm around on Friday. We get to see the reigning Magic Millions favourite in this opening event with MEMO set to lap up the 1200m. She closed off strongly here on debut before spelling, her resuming 2nd at Wyong was good considering she was held up until near the 100m mark. Very impressed with the way she then found the line. The newcomer APOCALYPTIC has trialled well enough to figure on debut, looked good at the latest hit out. GALLO NERO a likely improver. Numbers: 6 – 10 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet: MEMO TO WIN. RACE 2 Going with value in this week’s Highway putting SCOPICS on top. Not far away first up in midweek grade on the Kenso track he appreciated the solid speed finding the line nicely. Seems to run his best races whilst on the fresh side & hopefully Nash can have him in the clear at the right time from the inside draw. The lightly raced SHROPSHIRE LAD draws well for his first crack out of maiden grade, looks well up to up. HIGHWAY STRIP & CAMBAR both going along nicely with plenty of upside. Numbers: 2 – 14 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet: SCOPICS EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 3 EMMADELLA is very consistent around this level having won at Rosehill three back & finishing close up when resuming recently on this track. The run between those was a 4th in the Listed Winx Guineas at the Sunshine Coast which does kind of jump off the page. With some luck from a bad gate she’s going to prove very hard to beat. MAGNATEAR should be right at his peak third-up, slight freshen & drop back in distance shouldn’t harm. Zac Lloyd sticks with IT’S A WONDER who scored impressively first up, worth including in exotics. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet: EMMADELLA EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Tough race, could make a case for & against for pretty much all runners here. I’ve settled on MAWJOOD who was gelded prior to his last prep winning first up, placing second-up & then missing out his only other run however I can find valid excuses. Trialled up nicely for his return this afternoon clocking in a pressure free third at Rosehill. Both runs handed in by the Victorian DON’T HOPE DO this prep have been solid ones, draws the pole gate with the claim, both plusses. VANESSI looks to be trending in the right direction. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 The very much in form COUNTYOURBLESSINGS won consecutive races around the Canterbury 1250m last prep before venturing north to win at Doomben making it 3 from 3. That final win was impressive against the tempo coming from off speed, very hard to beat here. JEWELLERY is super consistent however she can find bad luck in her races, that’s certainly been the case both runs this time in, down in class with a kilo weight drop suggests this is very suitable. Race tens to thin out after that, be surprised if one of the top pair didn’t win the race. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 11 – 2 Suggested Bet: COUNTYOURBLESSINGS/JEWELLERY TO WIN. RACE 6 AMAZING EAGLE was in the ‘good thing beaten’ category when he last raced back in late November at Doomben. Striking a heavy (10) surface he ended up last in the run which wasn’t the plan before charging home hard just failing to reach the winner late. Have to stick with him as he was a Listed winner the run prior & is a model of consistency. Chris Waller & Kerrin McEvoy combine with INVADER ZIM who resumes, has shown good potential, been put under no pressure in his lead-up trials. Big drop in grade for SHANGRI LA EXPRESS who has to be included. Numbers: 8 – 10 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet: AMAZING EAGLE TO WIN. RACE 7 BUNKER HUT struggles to win however is very consistent & comes up at over the each-way quote in early markets suggesting he’s a bet to nothing both totes. At peak fitness third-up he takes on similar opposition dropping 1kg in weight after the claim. Liked the run of HIGH BLUE SEA first up running on between rivals late, this is harder, he drops in weight & he’s got me before, even so he must go into the placings. LIBERTY STATE has come up early favourite, absolutely everything to suit winning last start, may be unders? Numbers: 2 – 5 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet: BUNKER HUT EACH-WAY. RACE 8 Right down the bottom I’m with the very much in-form RING ME UP & we can back him on an each-way basis. Yes, he rises in grade however is in the right frame of mind to do so & gets in nice & light at the weights. He beat Zaphod last start & we’ve seen that one come out & win since. No knock SALTCOATS who regained his best form last start whilst BULLETS HIGH is consistent however he’s been an absolute nightmare for punters. REZONE had accepted both here & at Eagle Farm, may need the run stepping up to 2000m, market leads? Numbers: 16 – 5 – 14 – 8 Suggested Bet: RING ME UP EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 9 No money about early for the French import ALASHAR who may take the run? Should be suited at this trip whilst fresh though. There’s not much in the way of depth in this race where I’m going to lean to the second up MISS YOU ELLA who had zero luck gaining clear running first up & did run some nice races last prep, doesn’t win out of turn however worth a small each-way investment. DARLING DOWNS is consistent, in the right yard & with little or no convictions to date, must be included whilst JUSTELA draws well, can she successfully take the rise from Midway grade? Numbers: 10 – 13 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet: MISS YOU ELLA TO WIN. Market Market
