Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on April 17, 2025April 18, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Eagle Farm on Saturday & I’m very pleased to report the weather will be glorious with no rain in sight, big chance we get back to a Good rated surface. The day gets underway with a short priced favourite to go around in (1) NAVY PILOT who closed off strongly out of the placings on debut in maiden grade (1000m) before straight to Group 1 level when not far away in the Sires at Randwick, surely too good for these? (6) ON POINT PIXIE fought on well last start, placed both career outings looks the danger should there be one. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet: NAVY PILOT TO WIN. RACE 2 Wide open distance race for the stayers who do lack consistency. Thought (9) HECTOR DE MARIS could run a race here, scratched from a midweeker at Doomben on Wednesday he drops plenty in weight & follows a similar winning pattern from last prep. (2) TORRENS is big odds & that’s when he runs his best races, wouldn’t be shocked to see him improve sharply. (4) GALIFIANAKIS is racing in good form, include. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up first 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Many of these races today will be affected by scratchings due to a ton of dual acceptors, this will be the first of them. (10) ARISPHERE gets the nod from me, just slipped at the start first up before weaving home making good ground down the Gold Coast straight, with a better getaway he’s a chance to go a few better this time around. Not sure whether (12) GIVE GIGGLES will run having drawn poorly, Tony Gollan may prefer to wait for another day & a more favourable draw, wouldn’t leave her out should she do so as her trial win was good & in slick time. (5) AVONE was sound fresh, stays at 1000m which is her go. Numbers: 10 – 12 – 5 – 17 Suggested Bet: ARISPHERE TO WIN. RACE 4 (18) LADY LUCIFER missed out a run last week with the washout however she wasn’t on her own there. Don’t see the gap between runs as an issue & the way she’s been winning on her home track suggests the class rise is well within her capabilities. Drawn a good gate she’ll land a soft run. Keeping the newcomer to the Gollan yard (12) FLOOZIE safe, yest to miss a placing first up which includes a win, has trialled encouragingly. (6) DEVASTATING closed off well fresh, twice a second-up winner & races well here on his home circuit. (3) SER JOH & (14) MISTER BIANCO in the mix also. Numbers: 18 – 12 – 6 – 14 Suggested Bet: LADY LUCIFER EACH-WAY. RACE 5 Don’t see a lot of speed likely in this race which is going to suit the third-up (2) APUNTAR. A little flat however far from disgraced first up he improved nicely second up sticking with the winner in the run to the line which suggests the step up to a mile today will suit, he also maps in the first couple. (5) DEEP FOCUS is only lightly raced showing plenty of promise, freshened up staying at the same trip looks very suitable. (3) MR BUBBALUSKI is another who should be suited by the step up in trip, always finds the line strongly. (1) DEPTH OF CHARACTER brings stronger form lines out of the Sydney carnival, big weight however must include. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: APUNTAR EACH-WAY. RACE 6 (12) FRENCH ENDEAVOUR ticks a number of boxes here & is the top tip. She’s gets into the race very well under the set weights conditions & should find this easier than her latest outing which was a tidy effort against the tempo suiting the on-pacers, her sectionals home were strong. (1) ANTONITO is flying this prep winning both starts, big weight & a wide gate no help however can’t overlook. (4) LUBRICATION is a backmarker who will need plenty of luck whilst (6) VORACIOUS is more than capable of bouncing back off her failure last start. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet: FRENCH ENDEAVOOUR TO WIN. RACE 7 (10) IMATRUESTAR gets the nod in what is a lottery of a race at this stage. Super consistent of late he draws well which should see him settle closer in the run, he’s winner on the track which came over this exact mile trip three starts back. I might be going off a run early however (5) FLEUR DU MONDE can run a race second up, generally comes to hand quickly & the first up effort was solid, one for the exotics players. (17) DEMON DARB was impressive last start, yes this is harder however gets a little weight relief which will help his cause. (1) THIS’LLBETHEONE in the mix. Numbers: 10 – 5 – 17 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 The Listed Ascot Handicap brings together a quality bunch of sprinters, most with some sort of winter carnival aspirations. I’m with the track/distance specialist (9) WANDA ROX who comes into the race off a month plus freshen up which will suit her down to the ground. She maps to park in behind the lead & can ‘cut loose’ in the straight. (1) ZARARSTRO accepted both here & at Randwick, stable have decided to stay home, from the good alley he’ll be nice & handy in the run also. (7) LIBERTAD a market watch off such a long break. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet: WANDA ROX EACH-WAY. RACE 9 The Listed Daybreak Lover sees the return of the very promising (1) Give Me Space plus a handful of other quality 3yo’s. I’m going to lean to the first up winner (5) BOOMTOWN BOSS who went into that first up assignment without a trial yet blew away his rivals late charging through along the fence. He ran some nice races last prep sometimes without luck & I’d expect he’ll strip a fitter horse here. (1) GIVE ME SPACE is a class act with a huge finish, his Vo Rogue win was enormous as was his closing effort in the Magic Millions Guineas. (3) GOODLUCKTOME is racing in peak form this prep, maps well. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: BOOMTOWN BOSS EACH-WAY. RACE 10 I’ll lean to the second-up (12) BLACKMAX in this final race which is another lottery. Liked his finishing burst first up closing solidly along the fence, his second up record is a good one & he’s generally a very consistent type around this level. (6) TORABELLA raced very consistently last prep, market our best guide fresh however I wouldn’t be underestimating. (22) TOWN CRIER will be lucky to gain a start as the 6th emergency however should he do so he’s in with a chance, as are plenty of others though! Numbers: 12 – 6 – 22 – 4 Suggested Bet: BLACKMAX EACH-WAY. Market Market
