Scott Embry’s Friday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on April 17, 2025April 17, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BANG FOR BUCK ran second to Housewife in a 3 year old 0MWLY at Ascot last prep and first-up was doing his best work late from a fair way off them in a race won by above average filly Mangifera. Looks a great race for him on paper. ON JUST TERMS wasn’t able to reel in Bronze Rocket at her return to racing on opening day but she should be fitter second-up and hopefully the extra 100m gives her the chance to attack the line a bit stronger. COULDABEENAHANDBAG ran well again last start. QUEEN OF CHAOS is knocking on the door but lacks a bit late. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – BANG FOR BUCK WIN RACE 2 JUST SUBLIME has had two trials in Perth, one over 400m and the second over 1000m when narrowly defeated by Kunapipi. Straight to Kalgoorlie for her debut, drawn barrier 1 and Tash Faithfull rides. The fence was the place to be at the opening meeting when the rail was at 5m so hopefully it’s still the place to be with the rail at 8m. RED AUTUMN raced in a Breeders Classic only three starts ago and hasn’t been disgraced down the straight recently. Blinkers re-attached and off to Kal. CLASSIC CODE ran well first-up in Esperance and now joins Paul Tapper. RUPERTS QUEEN next best. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – JUST SUBLIME WIN RACE 3 PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC is the first ride for new 4kg claiming apprentice Sharni Webster and he’s a definite winning chance. He’s a Kalgoorlie specialist and considering his second-up run (after a 432 day let up) was less than 3L off Sinful Living (since won) in a 72+ at Ascot he’s not far off. Jump run horse, 5x winner with an apprentice rider, great opportunity for the next generation of the Webster dynasty. LOVE DRUNK BABY is clearly the one to beat. Usually takes a run so considering he won fresh he’s in for a good prep. MUNGO JERRY improves back with Rickie Brown. HIGH PRESSURE next. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC WIN RACE 4 NATURAL GEM is race fit and should be hard to beat for new trainer Nev Newton. She won a 58+ 1100m by over 1L at the last meeting and Rocky Cheung retains the ride. She’s going to land in a similar spot and should go close to producing a similar result. DUBLIN RED ran second to her last start and meets her 1.5kg better with a senior rider going on too. Big watch. PEARLY NUGGET drops back in grade nicely. NODUSTONEME is at start 108 but continues to race well. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – NATURAL GEM WIN RACE 5 SOMETHING ROYAL won a 1000m maiden at Bunbury then a 1000m 46+ at Pinjarra down the straight. Well placed into a Country C2 and expect that Chanel Cooper eyes off the breeze outside American Thighs. SCIENCE DEGREE broke his maiden by 4.5L and then two starts later only finished 1L off them in a 0MWLY. Trialled well for his return too. AMERICAN THIGHS was sent out odds on first-up and faded noticeably late. Back to 1100m suits and should be fitter now. THATSTHEWAYILIKEIT a watch at her return. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – SOMETHING ROYAL WIN RACE 6 RYEWOOD is the class mare but will get back with 60kg and concede them a head start. She’ll need: A) a great ride from Chanel Cooper; and B) conditions which allow them to make ground. So she’s an easy one to sit back and watch and decide whether she’s worth an investment first-up. PRIZED JEWEL was dominant at the opening meeting winning a 58+ 1300 by 1.5L. This race has more depth but from the draw Chris Nicoll should have her tracking up behind the speed. RULING DAME finished third in the Prized Jewel race and gets 1.5kg to try and turn the tables. ONEMOREFORLEO was the most consistent galloper in the region last season. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – RYEWOOD WIN RACE 7 ZEBEDEE SPRINGS won well at his WA debut in Esperance and since then has been close without winning again. Interesting J.A Robins goes with the 3kg claim of Ava Catarino this time around and that pull in the weights could prove the difference. Astute yard, trust the process. BRONZE ROCKET never looked like being beat first-up for Peter Fernie and the clock backed up what was a visually impressive win. KEEP A KNOCKIN beat home Zebedee Springs last start. PURE QUALITY drops 2kg and Stick Corver sides with her over Bronze Rocket. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – ZEBEDEE SPRINGS WIN Market Market
