Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on January 16, 2025January 16, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Saturday racing returns to Eagle Farm with a big 10 race card to get through. We’ll have a short priced favourite in this opening race should SPACE RIDER miss a run in the Magic Millions on Friday night. Dominant on debut he’s highly fancied to give the 3-million-dollar race a shake suggesting if he doesn’t gain a start he’ll give these an absolute caning. Any one of numbers 2, 6 or 8 can fill the placings. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet: Favourite too short, prefer to watch of box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Going to give the Tony Gollan trained mare HABEEBAH one more chance as I can find excuses for her failure here 3 weeks back. She raced a lot further forward which I don’t feel suited her leaving her with nothing to offer in the straight. Prior runs were good & I’d suspect she’ll be ridden quieter this time around. Should IVERSON be up to running out 2200m he has to be a chance whilst I thought the Cairns Amateurs Cup winner CASHIN’ CHEX could be an improver. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet: HABEEBAH EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 3 Keen on the chances of the ex-Queenslander CARRIBEAN KING who’s beaten all bar the winner his past couple in Highway grade at Randwick. The latest was the narrowest of defeats & he goes into this 5 weeks between runs which suits his pattern. Looks a good each-way play at the price on offer. I’ll give BLUE SPINEL another chance, she’s been disappointing this prep however can improve sharply without any surprise. FEMME FATALE should be right at her peak now & draws to gain a good run in the race. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet: CARRIBEAN KING EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Wouldn’t be taking short odds about any of these as the majority have issues with the winning post. Tactics early on will be all important as there’s no obvious leader on the map. Every chance KRONENBOURG pushes on, he’s nothing but consistent & does score a decent weight drop off recent efforts. RED TOP is one who can improve dropping back in distance, gets very, very open from there, cases can be made for & against all runners. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 MINTAKA LAD resumes with a decent fresh record & has trialled nicely in preparation for his return this afternoon. He’s won 2 of his 4 first up outings to date (placed one other) & he should get plenty of favours off the inside draw. Gut feel is they will ride TYPHOON TAAVI for speed here, that’s the way she races best & with Emily Lang’s claim may look to break the field right up. The consistent SET TO SHINE won’t be far away & handles all types of going, definite market watch as is the top selection. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet: MINTAKA LAD TO WIN (looking for market support). RACE 6 Good speed very likely in this race which will suit the fast closing ABOUT TO EXPLODE who comes off a last start dominant Sunshine Coast win. He’s only been to Eagle Farm once when coming from last weaving his way through the field to score in what was an outstanding win, not sure Angela Jones will be looking for gaps today more likely to hook wide at the top of the straight. RIMBAUD can run a race fresh, very good at the beginning of his last prep. PICKABAE was dominant on debut, just worry about the wide gate & strong speed likely today, she may end up doing it tough. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 15 – 4 Suggested Bet: ABOUT TO EXPLODE EACH-WAY. RACE 7 I’m with the second-up ex-Victorian PRO FORMA who got going late fresh zooming along the fence to just miss running down TORO STRIKE at the Sunshine Coast. They meet again here with a weight advantage of 1.5kg in PRO FORMA’s favour, enough to turn the tables, I hope so! Look for an improved effort from SURPRISE HONEY who will find this a lot easier than her last couple, she just hasn’t quite measure up. PROVANCE bolted in at Ipswich, yes this is harder however she’s on an upward spiral. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 14 – 3 Suggested Bet: PRO FORMA EACH-WAY. RACE 8 Keen on the chances of HARBOURMASTER to make it back-to-back Eagle Farm victories here. He’d been absolutely flying at Toowoomba & brought even better form to get the job done here ridden positively from a wide draw. No favours at the gates again however I’m sticking. TORABELLA won’t get the same favours as last start however if not pressured too much can figure in the placings. CAPTAIN FENKEL was good in Sydney last start, can he repeat? If yes then he’s a definite chance. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: HARBOURMASTER TO WIN. RACE 9 Very keen on the chances of the consistent WEIGALL TIGER who has bounced back to his best form this prep. Dominant accounting for easier opposition at Ipswich two back he then matched Buffering winner Transatlantic last start in good time, that’s a very strong form line. Expect him to roll forward & prove extremely difficult to run down. THE INFLICTOR loves it here & is another who will head forward early on whilst BATTLEFIELD surely improves off the first up run, he’s a lot better than that. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: WEIGALL TIGER TO WIN. RACE 10 Complete lottery to wind up the day. BOOM SHOT seems to be very close however can seem to find ways to get beaten. He comes up with a very wide gate here which may end up working in his favour as it may help him stay out of trouble! TANNENBURG is another who can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, he should be ready third-up though & this is winnable. BLACK DUKE & LIBERTY STEPS both going well enough to include. Numbers: 9 – 13 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
