Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on January 16, 2025January 16, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 We race at Rosehill on Saturday where the track looks like being in the wet range with decent falls possible at the back end of the week. The meeting gets underway with a 2yo affair where only 3 of the 11 acceptors have faced the starter. J. Mac returns to Sydney with a good book of rides starting right here with WODETON who an expensive 1.6-million-dollar purchase was. Two trials very positive should go close. SANCTIFIED’s trials have been sound whilst the race experienced THE MAGIC MAN is also well in the picture, thought his effort to stick on after racing outside the lead earlier this month was a good one. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Very tricky looking Highway (aren’t they all…). FIORSUM FRED does appear to tick a few boxes, a heavy track (should we get to that stage) is the concern however keep in mind he is 2 from 3 on soft ground & his past couple suggest he’s well & truly ready to win, the drop back in distance is no concern. SCOPICS continues to race well & looks close, the 1400m might test however must include. WAL’S ANGELS wasn’t far away first up & is the one most likely should we get into the heavy track range. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 6 – 13 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 RANTAN is fit & in form, suggest she’s an each-way bet should we end up with at least 8 runners in the race. She takes on a couple of well performed types in WINCHESTER & POLYGOT who have good upside however race fitness on wet ground may just find them out at the business end of the race. IRON HAWK wasn’t all that far from Autumn Glow at two runs in his initial prep, returns here on wet ground which hasn’t been an issue to date. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: RANTAN EACH-WAY (small bet-8 starters). RACE 4 Plenty of acceptors in this week’s Midway which will be culled post scratchings back to a field max of 18 runners. SHOHISHA won on debut back in August before tackling Group 2 company at her next outing where she was far from disgraced behind Manaal. She resumed with a solid closing second in the Gosford Guineas recently when closing ground on the winner who is unbeaten. Looks extremely well placed in a Midway if handles the conditions. LADY EXTREME ticks plenty of boxes today bar the barrier, she will come in a few after scratchings though. ZOURIPPER should be included as should CHIEF CONDUCTOR although he’s better placed on something drier. Numbers: 16 – 11 – 14 – 4 Suggested Bet: SHOHISHA TO WIN (small bet). RACE 5 The King’s horse GILDED WATER has looked the goods at his two starts in Australia winning both. The latest when stepping up to 2400m was particularly impressive clearing out from his rivals in the run to the line. He stays at the trip here & rises in weight; he’s got panels on these though & has handled soft ground overseas. Queensland visitor JEALOUS hit the line well her first 2000m attempt & loves the very wet ground, unbeaten both heavy attempts. LENAPE VIBE is another who gets through the damp conditions well, heavy (10) winner two back. Numbers: 1 – 11 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet: GILDED WATER TO WIN. RACE 6 Really like what EMMADELLA is doing of late, she let down with an impressive sprint to win at Randwick which followed an encouraging first up effort. Her wet track form is good, she did finish just out of the placings in the Group 3 Winx Guineas at the Sunshine Coast last prep on a Heavy (9) surface. LULUMON’s chances will certainly improve on wet ground, she’s the best wet tracker in the race & holds a perfect record here (1 from 1). Plenty of confidence around OH DIAMOND LIL who is only lightly raced & shooting for the hat trick of wins, faces a tougher task today however loses 3kg in the process. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet: EMMADELLA EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Can’t see any reason to tip against the in-form SALTCOATS who rises to open company with a 4.5kg weight drop to help. His recent run of success shouldn’t come as a major surprise as he did run 3rd at Group 2 level here back in the autumn closing off strongly at the end of 2000m. Wet ground won’t be a concern. OSIPENKO the danger off his narrow Summer Cup defeat last start, he put the writing on the wall in the Ingham the start prior, clearly has the stronger form lines however also 5.5kg more weight than SALTCOATS. HOPEFUL is ‘hopeless’ on dry ground, different horse on Soft/Heavy, keep that in mind. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: SALTCOATS TO WIN. RACE 8 CIGAR FLICK… she’s no friend of the punter continually finding bad luck in her races of late as favourite, two starts back she went around in red figures! I’ll give her another chances particularly on wet ground as she gets through those conditions well, J. Mac jumping on board is a definite plus. Not too sure about DISNECK on wet ground, his form suggests he’s a better chance on something drier however the way he’s going he might just glide right over the top of it, arguably the most in-form horse in Sydney at the moment. WYMARK is capable of running a forward race whilst on the fresh side. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: CIGAR FLICK TO WIN. RACE 9 BUNKER HUT & HIGH BLUE SEA meet once again here just as they did last start at Randwick when the latter was too strong over the closing stages. Weight wise BUNKER HUT is 3.5kg better off for the 0.52L defeat & has a superior record on rain affected ground. Although HIGH BLUE SEA looked better to the eye I’m with BUNKER HUT to turn the tables, he’s certainly well overdue running placings at his past 7 starts! SILENT IMPACT & THE PUMPER both strip fitter & can improve. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet: BUNKER HUT TO WIN (small bet). RACE 10 The outside of the track by this late stage of the day if wet could be the place to be & that’s exactly where the resuming SPRING LEE will be making her run from. She’s a lightly raced consistent mare with a good fresh record who has trialled well for her return, a good thing beaten first up last prep she can make amends this afternoon. EYE OF THE FIRE draws even wider, chased home DISNECK his past couple though & gets through the ground well. COSMANOVA in the mix second up, she draws the inside, how will that be? Numbers: 5 – 2 – 13 – 8 Suggested Bet: SPRING LEE TO WIN (looking for market support). Market Market
