Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on November 21, 2024November 21, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing in Brisbane on Saturday comes from Doomben & very likely on a heavy rated track. The 2yo’s get things underway & I’m with the Gollan stable runner LA BELLA BOOM who did a good job on debut here last month, she raced wide yet stuck to her guns strongly in the straight running home nicely. CUDDLES FOR KIMMY has some wet track form, she got the money here on debut (soft 6). MILESTONE clearly the best of the trailers, won a recent Sunshine Coast heat on a heavy (8) by over 5 lengths. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: LA BELLA BOOM TO WIN (small bet). RACE 2 Tricky race. EVOCATOR gets back in his races which is not ideal around Doomben however on wet ground which he loves he’s likely to settle a lot closer in the run. Look for him to be motoring home at the business end. TORABELLA steps to 1600m which won’t be of concern & she’ll find a good spot from the draw, Emily Lang will give her every possible & again gets in with a light weight. Take your pick the rest! Numbers: 3 – 9 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet: BACKING TOP 2 SELECTIONS TO WIN. RACE 3 Sticking with the consistent EL PENSADOR who likely should have finished closer last start when just running into traffic problems in the straight. Prior outing he was nailed here right on the line after sprinting hard & fast in the straight looking the likely winner. He handles wet ground & with a wide draw today should be able to get wide & close off without being impeded. NAVAL SEAL couldn’t get to Kerchak last start however that’s a very strong form line with Kerchak winning at Listed level last Saturday. I’d be tipping MOSZUR to win on a dry track, no form on wet ground is the concern. Numbers: 18 – 10 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet: EL PENSADOR EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Typically difficult distance affair where I’m with one at double-figure odds being APPLICATIONS who put in a much-improved performance to place here last start. The step up in distance obviously helped & from the good gate today he’s going to land a favourable on-paced run once again. FLEUR DU MONDE is impossible to catch however should she run up to her last start win she’ll figure in the finish once again. ALDEENAARY was very one-paced late last start in a race he was expected to win, might be looking for further based on that. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Backing both BOOM SHOT & TALTARNI FIELDS here. The former should be peaking at his third run back from a break, both outings this prep have been solid with the latter the better racing wide after a poor start yet finishing just over a length from the winner. TALTARNI FIELDS briefly held the track record when winning first up, back to the trials earlier this week he ran well. SAVOUR THE DREAM shows promise, resumes & is a big market watch. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 13 – 8 Suggested Bet: BACKING TOP 2 SELECTIONS TO WIN. RACE 6 Leading trainer Tony Gollan holds the key to this race with not only his Magic Millions winning mare SKIRT THE LAW however a further four acceptors & it’s difficult to deny any of them a winning chance. I’ll lean to INSTAGOOD who needs things to pan out however she will get the last crack at the leaders in what will be a strongly run race up front. Really don’t know what to expect from SKIRT THE LAW, off the scene since June, trials sound, will she need the run? TYPHOON TAAVI will generate the bulk of the pace, gut feel is she’s better suited to dry ground. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO was desperately unlucky not to win the Keith Noud here first up a couple of weeks back. Very heavily supported she missed the start before making up plenty of ground into third spot when they hit the line. She loves wet ground & gets out to 1350m which looks ideal. NAVYONTHEHIGHWAY won her first two starts this prep in impressive fashion, down south she went at her latest when far from disgraced, she’s well up to this & importantly has a heavy track win to her credit. FLYING TRAPEZE next best. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO TO WIN. RACE 8 Competitive race for the girls where I’m having something each-way on the second-up SALTAIRE who debuted for the Gollan stable with a fast-closing finish here at Doomben last month beating all bar the handy Tiger Shark. Her sectionals home were strong & she’ll appreciate slightly further today, just has to handle the ground. BUBBA’S BAY is the type of horse we’d all like to own, races on speed & is always in the finish, tough win her latest when wide before the turn without cover on a strong speed. APPIN GIRL could be chasing 1200m now, never seen a wet track though? Numbers: 11 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: SALTAIRE EACH-WAY. RACE 9 There was no better run at the meeting here 2 weeks ago than the one handed in by BUSTING. Resuming off a break of well over a year he drew wide & went back which was the direction from the stable settling down last. Brought to the outside before the home turn he powered down the outside to finish on the heels of the placegetters. Drawn the pole gate today he’s going to be a lot closer. Stablemate BOSSED UP was a cracking run first up at Toowoomba, that was 2 months back though suggesting market moves will be our best guide to his fitness levels. ACRES AWAY was unlucky last start, definite chance as well. Numbers: 13 – 12 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet: BUSTING TO WIN. RACE 10 Keen on the chances of METALART to send us all home on a winning note. He’s put in three very good runs this prep however is yet to win beaten by wide barriers his last couple. He again draws out today however I’m expecting Michael Rodd to again send him forward & keep in mind although yet to race on heavy he’s 4 from 4 on soft. TAVS was a certainly beaten at his first local start here 2 weeks ago, he was climbing all over their backs in the straight. THE INFLICTOR will improve on his last start effort, he’s a lot better than that. Numbers: 2 – 13 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet: METALART TO WIN. Market Market
