Trent Cooper’s Gloucester Park Preview Posted on May 23, 2024May 23, 2024 | Posted by Trent Cooper Race 1 LUCAPELO (1) has been placed in five consecutive runs before working hard when 4th to Paroquet at his last start. He draws to lead and should be hard to catch over the sprint trip. CAPTAIN BLIGH (10) is the best horse in the field and will be hard to hold out if he can be extricated from the pegs early enough. MAUNGATAHI (4) has won his last two starts in easier company but is up to the rise in class. GILLIGANS ISLAND (3) crosses the Nullabor with good Victorian form and has trialled nicely for his WA debut. Tips: 1 10 4 3 Suggested Bet: LUCAPELO (1) to win. Race 2 JETT STAR (5) has been working hard in his races and performing credibly without winning. He looks set to be in the breeze again but this looks an easier assignment and he appeals as the one to beat. BRICKIES DREAM (11) led throughout before running a nice 3rd to Skylou here last week and will be charging home. IRA POOLE (4) was well-backed when disappointing at his last start but was found to be sore and that effort can be overlooked. WITHOUTTHETUH (2) should cross to the pegs and should be thereabouts. Tips: 5 11 4 2 Suggested Bet: JETT STAR (5) to win. Race 3 ARMA XFACTOR (5) showed great speed to cross at the start and never looked like being beaten from that point on here last week. He looks a good chance to finds the top and will be very hard to beat in that role. ROLLING FIRE (6) had every chance when beaten by Solesseo Matuca but it was his first run in seven weeks and he is a very talented pacer. ACHARNE GIRL (1) has been racing well in mares’ company and the rise in class is offset by the pole draw. LUSAKA (8) is racing well but the wide barrier will make it tough. Tips: 5 6 1 8 Suggested Bet: ARMA XFACTOR (5) to win. Race 4 JUMPINGJACKMAC (9) ran a game 2nd in the Nullabor before winning his last two starts and is clearly the one to beat despite the wide draw. FINVARRA (2) hit the line when 3rd to JUMPINGJACKMAC (9) here last week and can be in the money again. TO FAST TO SERIOUS (4) is a capable sit-sprinter and will be suited if there is a solid early tempo. HASMPTON BANNER (5) led throughout in 1.55.8 at his last start and can be in the finish if he crosses at the start without having to do too much work. Tips: 9 2 4 5 Suggested Bet: JUMPINGJACKMAC (9) to win. Race 5 WAVERIDER (2) has been beaten into 2nd as a short-priced favourite at his last two starts but both efforts have been full of merit and he should prove hard to beat. FRANCO ENCORE (1) led throughout to defeat WAVERIDER (2) here two starts back and he is the obvious danger. PRINCE OF PAIN (10) is drawn to get a soft run on the pegs and looks a good place chance. IDEAL MUSCLE (5) finished 3rd behind the two favourites before winning his last start but the draw makes it tough. Tips: 2 1 10 5 Suggested Bet: WAVERIDER (2) to win. Race 6 NULLABOR NAVAJO (12) has ran brave 3rds at her last two starts in stronger fields and is clearly the one to beat here despite the back line draw. QUEENINTHECORNER (3) is racing well and will give plenty of cheek if she can find the front in the early stages. THREE RUMOURS (8) looked sharper at her first run for five weeks here last week and has the strength to overcome the wide draw. STORMYSKYES (9) will be at big odds from her wide draw but she is back to her best and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her in the finish. Tips: 12 3 8 9 Suggested Bet: NULLABOR NAVAJO (12) to win. Race 7 CAPTAIN STIRLING (1) was well-backed on debut when 2nd to When In Vegas in good time at Pinjarra. He hasn’t been seen since that effort but will be hard to beat from the pole if he is forward in condition for his return. NOBLE THORONDOR (8) has settled back in the field and ran on to finish 2nd to Major Miki in both starts since resuming and will be charging home again. REINETTE (6) faced the breeze when a strong 2nd at her first run back from a spell but disappointed when leading here last week so must be taken on trust. AMERICAN MAJOR (3) has trialled nicely and can make her presence felt on debut. Tips: 1 8 5 3 Suggested Bet: CAPTAIN STIRLING (1) to win. Race 8 THE CODE BREAKER (8) disappointed first-up when he led and was beaten into 7th place as a $2.70 favourite. He will strip fitter for that effort and should be running on here at good each way odds. LOUCID DREAMS (2) wasn’t suited in the breeze at his last start but must be respected on his previous solid form. ROCKANDROLLARTIST (5) has used his brilliant gate speed to lead at his last five starts for four wins and will give a sight if he finds the top again. JOEY JAMES (1) is always dangerous with the right run and defeated a similar field two starts back. Tips: 8 2 5 1 Suggested Bet: THE CODE BREAKER (8) each way. Race 9 VELOCIPEDE (6) is first-up after six-month break but has trialled nicely for his return and has class on his side. CLOUD NINE (5) should be close to his peak at his third run back from a spell and looks the main danger. CHAMBRAY (1) ran a nice 2nd here last week and should be thereabouts again from the pole. YOU FLY WITH ME (10) is drawn to get a soft run on the pegs and can be placed. Tips: 6 5 1 10 Suggested Bet: VELOCIPEDE (6) to win. Race 10 ROCKNROLL SPIRIT (1) has only been placed in one of his past five starts but this isn’t a strong field and he gets his chance from the poll. THE RIGHTEOUS has only recorded two minor placings from his last 14 starts but is drawn to get all the favours and should be in the finish. STAR OF WILLOUGHBY (5) has finished just behind the placegetters at his last three starts and is suited by the drop in class. NAME IN LIGHTS (6) is another suited by this company but will need some luck from out here. Tips: 1 2 5 6 Suggested Bet: ROCKNROLL SPIRIT (1) to win. Market Market
