Scott Embry’s Wednesday Geraldton Preview Posted on December 26, 2023December 26, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 PAPAVERO PRINCESS went around equal favourite in a Northam maiden on debut back in July and was far from disgraced. Summer Dickson travelling her up to Geraldton and Michael Poy heading up to partner her after trialling the mare suggests that she’s going well enough to win fresh. STAY ASTERN was stiff last start when looking to be held up at a crucial stage on straightening. Flew late at Pio Kerri to just miss. Drawn barrier 14 here so he’s going to need a great ride from Austin Galati. VIKING FOREST wasn’t too bad in the same race and can settle closer from the inside draw. LIBERTY DAME was able to breeze outside the speed but couldn’t go with Duo Muso from the top of the straight. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – PAPAVERO PRINCESS WIN RACE 2 HILLSIDE HORACE again ran second last Sunday when beaten by Denzoe (35 start maiden). Will win a race this season but has a negative racing pattern with no early tactical speed which leaves him a lot to do on straightening. Again the one to beat but hard to tip into him with great confidence. MAKES THE CUT joins Allan Hughes and did place behind subsequent C1 winner Crunchy Nut only three starts back. BALI BELLY sat over the speed and ran well in the same race as Hillside Horace and now gets Troy Turner. MUNJARRI MAN is first-up. Last start at Pinjarra in April was handy enough (regardless of beaten margin). Numbers: 1 – 2 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – HILLSIDE HORACE WIN RACE 3 QUEEN NARDI is only a Geraldton maiden winner going straight into a C2 but she won with some authority and prior to that she had trialled really well behind an impressive debut winner in Hostile Talk. Could be ready to go through her grades and has 9.5kg on her main rival. ROCKING THE CASBAH won a C1 1410 at Bunbury two starts ago. That race was 9L slower than average and Playing Quest has drifted alarming and ran accordingly since. Went back on Wednesday at Ascot and never got into the race. This is easier but 62kg is an ask. BAYHARA drops back from a 64+ 1925 and has blinkers on. Keep safe. GUARD THE GREEK was 3L behind Rocking The Casbah last start. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – QUEEN NARDI WIN RACE 4 BERNBRAE, BLACKWATER BAY and PLAY WITH DESIRE have all scratched from the $125,000 Westspeed Platinum Cup to instead head to Geraldton and tackle the $50,000 Walkaway Cup. Excellent prizemoney on offer and they’ve now put together a competitive race. BERNBRAE put the writing on the wall last start behind Demolish in a 66+ and fifth up should be peaking. She looks the reason that Lucy Fiore is travelling to Geraldton. PLAY WITH DESIRE is a last start winner, lightly raced and seemingly enjoying getting out over ground. MOMBASA hasn’t run a bad race since joining Tony Scally and had to pull out a massive L600 to win last start. BLACKWATER BAY yet to hit his strap this campaign. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – BERNBRAE WIN RACE 5 WHAT A PRINCE went for home on straightening 10 days ago and looked home and hosed over the mile before getting a stitch and being gunned down in the final stride. Has had an interesting preparation distance wise: 1100 to 1213 to 1600 and now back to 1100m. But he’s classy, he’s versatile, he’s tough and he’s going super. Would want eachway considering the map and distance drop. SPIRIT MAN won two from two in Geraldton before heading to town on Gold Rush Day when running into sharp mare Devine Belief. BRISANCE is the stablemate to What A Prince and is also coming back in distance from 1400 to 1100. REACTION is never far from the action. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – WHAT A PRINCE EACHWAY RACE 6 DREAM TO ME is a classy mare. She’s won 5 from 9 including a m66+ Pearl Classic at Pinjarra. She trialled very softly for her return and if she’s anywhere near her best she’ll be hard to beat in this. THREE SESSIONS looked like he needed the run fresh. Can come on quickly second-up. PASSPORT is coming back to 1100m which on paper doesn’t look that suitable but if he was to win the Don Hammarquist Memorial you’d get up off your seat and cheer. BOMBAY STYLE won well over 1200m from off the speed last start. Dropping back again to 1100m and carrying 61.5kg is a big task. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – DREAM TO ME WIN RACE 7 FIRST CONTACT looked stiff not to win last start. ZJP made a calculated decision to go back to the fence and ride for luck and he just got held up from straightening until it was a little too late. With a gap she goes close and hopefully she can rebound in this. TYCOON DEMON was excellent 10 days ago. He settled rearward and sustained a big run. Still learning what it’s all about but having a great first preparation as a 5 year old. SAFE HUSTLE looks a new horse since arriving with Julia Martin. How good is Team Martin going?! GOLDEN FIGHTER is a last start winner at Scone. Lightly raced, good winning strike rate and Sean Rains gets them up and going fresh. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – FIRST CONTACT WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,4,6 1,2,3,5,8,9 4,6 1,2,3,4,5,8 Market Market
