Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on August 10, 2021August 10, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WUHAN WARRIOR and TRIX OF THE TRADE won back to back 1200m 2 year old races, same day, same track, same distance. WUHAN WARRIOR won his race leading in an overall raw time around 2.75L faster than TRIX OF THE TRADE. At levels weights and with the natural on speed race pattern of WUHAN WARRIOR he’s clearly going to be hard to run down. TRIX OF THE TRADE was a soft winner and the further the race went the better he was travelling. Looks a genuine Saturday type. Toss of the coin between them. WOMMEL WOCK can track them through and take the cutaway. WARPIPES showed glimpses in his initial campaign. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – WUHAN WARRIOR WIN RACE 2 SUCCESS PLAY made his return to racing off the back of an impressive trial behind debut winner Trix of the Trade (form could look even better after 12:04pm) and was thrown straight into a Saturday SWP race when finishing fifth behind Searchin’ Roc’s (winner of 3), Fine Romance (talented Cerise and White debutante), Mountain Ash and Forever Autumn (winner). That looks far and away the best form in this thin 3 year old midweeker and he gets his chance. CELEVACCI and SECRET DEPLOY are a pair of nice triallers on debut for Adam Durrant. CELEVACCI came home hard in his most recent Lark Hill trial. SECRET DEPLOY is an eye catching eye who wound up nicely on the same day. ROCKING THE MERC was out of it after 50m on debut. Improver. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – SUCCESS PLAY WIN RACE 3 VALBANI got caught up in a bit of traffic last start when unable to get going until the race was all over and Wise Cracker had burst through the gaps that Valbani was unable to navigate. Jury was out on the form after Wise Cracker was a massive drifter last Wednesday and ran a grinding fifth, however, with Sir Rachelot winning in style last Thursday it’s back in the good books. Needs luck from out there but with the cutaway rail in play only needs to be within striking distance to make a race of it. NICK OF TIME has had a lot of opportunities but continues to race well. Drawn a gate to finally get the right run. SURVEILLANCE is still knocking on the door 18 months after finishing second to Dom to Shoot on debut and splitting Gemma’s Son and Watch Me Dance at start number two in a Pinjarra Magic Millions. Very one paced. FALSE EVIDENCE beat Surveillance comfortably last start and gets weight on him. Live chance. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – VALBANI WIN RACE 4 BORN TO RULE returns to racing for the first time since July of 2020 off the back of two highly impressive trial efforts. The 400m jump out was better and better the further they got into the trial, the second over 950m was arrogant when extending strongly late to pull away over the concluding stages. Split All Day Session and Billy Ain’t Silly in a 2 year SWP before sitting deep throughout in a race won by boom filly Clairvoyance. Can tuck away in behind the speed just as she did in the trial. REGAL POYSE is definitely dangerous with the cutaway in play. Has a short sharp burst of speed which should be suited to this style of racing. POKER FACE will be able to kick through and find the fence which is worth lengths to these little pocket rocket 1000m types. Left working in the breeze last week which is not her go. TO RISE AGAIN has been a model of consistency for preparations without winning. Deserves to break through. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – BORN TO RULE WIN RACE 5 GHOBELLA has an awkward gate to overcome but is ideally placed with the claim by Steph Bakranich. Last start beat Strawberry Mist by almost 4.5L and meets her half a kilo better at the weights. Provided Keshaw Dhurun doesn’t get planted three deep without cover she’s the one to beat again. Thriving on the wet tracks and showing an impressive turn of foot. AL MAHALO gets some much needed weight relief after lumping big weights throughout the preparation. Drawn to box seat and sprint up the cutaway. REBEL HEART has been freshened since an encouraging staying performance in the Belmont Oaks. STOCKTAKA may find himself in front by default with a lack of tempo. Travelled boldly last start when $31 into $4.80. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – GHOBELLA WIN RACE 6 DARCELE has gone to a new level in the last few months since being stepped out to the staying trips and striking heavily rain affected surfaces. Was a shock winner two starts ago at 50-1 when simply out staying and out grinding them in a C1 slog. Found another Heavy track last start and was one of the few forward half runners in transit to battle on in an ugly race. Drawn to get the right run over the speed and has hit form. LOLLIPOP LANE is always going to be a tough mare to follow. She’s hit and miss in the way she travels. You’ll know after 200m whether she’s going to find the front and roll or whether Ryan Hill is going to earn his riding fee. JULIETTE has been hitting the line in these midweek staying events for months now. Surely getting close. PERI PERI PARA had his first test at a staying trip last start and Keith Mifflin learnt absolutely nothing. Keep safe. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – DARCELE WIN RACE 7 CHOICE BID is extremely well placed back into a C1 after contesting exclusively tougher races since breaking his maiden tag at the end of June. Ran fourth behind All Day Session, Sketta and Brooklyn Pier in a 3 year old 62+ before finishing fifth in an identical race a fortnight later behind Jedi Mind, Gunmetal Grey, All Day Session and Sketta. Drops back into a C1, gets weight off through the Ramoly claim and should roll to the breeze and prove too strong. UNDER THE RADAR can kick through underneath them to lead from the inside gate. Darren McAuliffe’s yard looks to have turned a corner. CANTO DE GUERRA was brave last start at Kalgoorlie when sitting deep throughout. THE REPUBLICAN battled on last start in a tougher race than this. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – CHOICE BID WIN RACE 8 GENERAL GRANT trialled like a horse who would be winning a few races this campaign. SJ Miller’s yard is ticking along well and as a 1400m type to accelerate past Regal Poyse and Amelia Bedelia at 950m shows that he’s returned in good order. Needs some luck from the barrier however could come in a gate or two if the emergencies don’t gain a start. POPCORN TENDER caught the eye first-up and then was thrown into a strong Saturday form race second-up (Nobel Laurence, Reign of Fire, Jedi Mind). TRADE MASTER resumed in a C3 and hit the line well enough to suggest he’ll be competitive here. TRADE WAR was bitterly disappointing last start and the market reflected that. $6.50 out to $19 usually means they’re legless and he was. He’s better than that (I think?). Numbers: 1 – 7 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – GENERAL GRANT WIN RACE 9 JAG THE JOKER looks awfully hard to beat with Willie Pike returning to the saddle from the ideal draw. Can bounce out of the machine and take a sit on the back of Ohbeeh who is likely to do a bit of work from the outside gate to cross and lead. From there Pike takes up his favourite stalking position and when they fan for home she’ll get her opportunity to extend the huge run of Ash Maley. Comes from a high rating race behind Fairy Fast and looks the one. OHBEEH will take running down as he always does in these wet track C3/58+/0MWLY races. If he crosses without burning any petrol he’ll be again hard to catch. FA’LION MASCHINE is rarely seen in this grade. Her best is better than 99% of these. Just a query on whether or not she can reproduce the figures of 12 months ago. ROMAN FLIRT will be suited over further but looks a handy stayer capable of a big prep. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – JAG THE JOKER WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,3,4 3,7,8 1,2,5,6,7,(11) 1,2,7 Market Market
