Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on May 25, 2021May 25, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CRYPTO QUEEN charged through the soft6 ground on debut down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra which should see her a live chance in an open 3yo 0MWLY. Drawn awkwardly but does have tactical speed and is drawn inside of Nowhiteflag. Should land a prominent position in running and looks to have a motor. GHOST WHO WALKS trialled up nicely within shades and should enjoy a lovely run midfield with cover. Competitive in tougher when last in work. NOWHITEFLAG won well at Northam but this is definitely tougher, especially from the draw. SHOCK RESULT is race hard, proven on wet tracks and fool proof at the trip. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – CRYPTO QUEEN EACHWAY RACE 2 FISH HOOK has blinkers added for the first time in her career. Is a filly whose best and worst are 10L apart but at her best she’s definitely good enough to win this. Looks a jump, run 1000m horse and with the gear change that’s probably how they’ll likely ride her. Last time she was allowed to roll she split Triple Missile and Secret Plan. PAEROA LAD stays in the same grade and drops 4kg with the apprentice claim. Solid effort last time out. ARRACITY was strong over further when last in work but the recent trial was excellent and she’s drawn an alley to work with. FOREST WAR should be competitive if he handles the wet track. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet – FISH HOOK WIN RACE 3 ASTRAPE is one of the best credentialled 2 year old maidens in the state. Second in a Crystal Slipper, third to Ultimate Command and Flying Missile in a 2yo SWP and then at two runs back has finished third behind the speedy Parnham pair Flying Missile and Ultimate Command. This is a huge drop in grade and she finally gets out to 1200m. Looks a plunge horse. NO DICE and WRITTEN EXCEED both come from the same form reference and while both are drawn awkwardly, they have their fair share of tactical speed early. MAGIC TO EXCEED looks a talent from the trials. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – ASTRAPE WIN RACE 4 AL MAHALO comes out of a C1 up into a C3 but these are all very evenly graded types. Nothing wrong with the first-up effort when cashing Image Keeper and She’s God To You, hit the line well behind Safe To Makeup second-up, caught the eye late under 61kg last time out behind a pair of emerging 3 year olds in Strawberry Mist and Soviet Spy. Gets some minor weight relief, blinkers on first time and drawn a gate to settle midfield with cover. PEARLS FROM HEAVEN has arguably stronger form to her name and gives Colin Webster a strong hand in the race. Hard to knock. LACEVINKSY is on trial at 1600m but won’t spend a penny in the run. PICCOLA SIGNORA wasn’t suited by the sit, sprint conditions last time out. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – AL MAHALO EACHWAY RACE 5 BRAGWELL is a 3 year old who looks set to be more than competitive in the Listed features over the winter. Last start was able to get through late to nab talented fillies Tri For Us (dominant Saturday winner) and Perfect Gem. The way he is racing it looks like 1600m will be more up his alley than 1400 and provided the fence isn’t a complete slop he should make his presence felt. PRETTY FRIAR is well placed back into a C3 as a previous winner in the grade. Three efforts this preparation all encouraging. REBEL HEART is lightly raced and trialled up particularly well for her return. SKY FIVE relished the rain affected tracks last start. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – BRAGWELL WIN RACE 6 TREAT YO SELF was undeniably disappointing last start. Loomed as the winner but simply didn’t have any real turn of acceleration late and was unable to match motors with Lyle’s Choice. Looks the kind of mare who will be there abouts in every single winter staying race and will pick up a few here and there. TRADE THUNDER is consistent and honest and races right over the speed. LADY DUCKWORTH demolished them last start. It’s the 45 day gap which is the unknown. UNENDING may be the forgotten mare. Doesn’t win out of turn but is racing well enough. Good luck. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet – TREAT YO SELF WIN RACE 7 CAPTAIN BURGLAR looks to have found a suitable assignment after racing in high grade recently. Ran well when leading them up in a 60+ Graduation and was only run down late by Billy Ray and Lonehand Larry. Last time out was in a strong 3 year old 62+ and even though beaten 6L wasn’t disgraced. Open race and well placed. IMPRUDENT was the target of strong support last start and raced well when finding the top. JAY DEE is honest and consistent. MIGHTNIESS is no star but plugs away. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – CAPTAIN BURGLAR WIN RACE 8 PERFECT GEM took a massive step from a lowly Northam maiden win into a 3yo 0MWLY race when running into Bragwell (fifth in the WA Guineas) and Tri For Us (emerging talent on her way towards the Belmont Oaks). Drops in grade back into a C1, only rises 1.5kg and is drawn to get a lovely run. Provided she stays out of trouble she looks hard to hold out late. WRITTEN MATTER won on debut in a C1. Noske took luck out of the equation and he never looked like being beaten. Interesting to see how they ride him from the draw. EMPIRE REIGN has had no luck this preparation and is unlikely to get much from the draw here either. DUKE OF MAGNUS is the X-Factor. Nice trials. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – PERFECT GEM WIN RACE 9 GUNS OF NAVARONE was given a peach by Ramoly last start to win in this grade over 1200m. Drops back to 1000m, draws a gate to stalk the tempo (which is hot) and is proven at the track, over the distance, in the grade, on the surface and with the weight. Hard to go past again on the eachway. FRED DAG is extremely well placed. Hasn’t seen a race of this nature for seasons and his trial behind Massimo was great. If they’re making ground down the middle he’s a definite bet. DRINKWHATYOULIKE is hard to knock and has proven to be versatile. KINGS AUTHORITY doesn’t win out of turn but rarely runs a bad race. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – GUNS OF NAVARONE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,3,5,6,7,9 2,3,4,7,9 3,9 1,2,4,5,6 Market Market
